I'm getting ready to take a vacation, and I would love it if anyone could tell me nice places to stop and shop, particularly metaphysical related things.
The RoutE: CA redwoods (CA coast, hwy101), Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Kamloops, Banff, Helena MT, Yellowstone, Jacksone hole WY, Arco ID, Salt Lake City, then through nevada back to Sacramento.
I'm mostly going to be going to gardens and things on this trip, and i would love to stop and just chill and browse and shop at some nice books stores and maybe pick up a reading or something. It would be a wonderful addition to the feeling I know I'm going to have doing all of this, and it'd be really cool to have some sort of seuvenire that i could actually use... 'like my pendulum? Got it in Canada' kind of thing, lol.
Even if it's not magick related, let me on the secrets of your cities guys! :D

Which way are you going from Helena to Yellowstone? If you go south and around by Garrison and Deer Lodge, then on to Butte, over the pass to Bozeman and south there it's a really nice drive. If I remember right there are a couple of shops in Bozeman.... I didn't get to go there much, though, so I'm not sure. I'll get ahold of a friend of mine and let you know. :) (after getting ahold of him - there's one on main street Bozeman, and one in Livingston - just not sure exactly where)
If you go that way, stop in Deer Lodge at the Shack to eat. It's on the west side of main street, across from the bakery. All their meat is fresh from the local ranches. Also, it's really good when Cathy's cooking - if she still works there. (If you do go that way and stop there, tell em all Kristal says hi... if they don't remember, the pregnant waitress. *L*) One of the neat tourist attractions there is the old jail tour, and another is the ranch. Ask anybody. They can tell you.
If you end up going through Butte I believe there's a shop there, too.... I can't be sure, though.
Hope that helps some!

Banff is a pretty little town. I used to live in Calgary, which is maybe 2 hours east of Banff (just take the TransCanada if you decide to detour to Calgary).
I hope Banff won't disappoint you. It is a very touristy town now. I don't know of any metaphysical stores there - but I haven't been there in 6 years, so anything could have changed! But most people go to Banff not so much for the town but for the mountains - and they are spectacular!
A hour or so...west, I think, of banff is Lake Louise, very famous for it's lodge and the beautiful gardens overloooking the Lake towards two mountian peaks.
IF you head east to Calgary to hook up the road back to Helena (and I think you have to) there is a fabulous bookstore in Calgary called Sunnyside books. It's in a trendy little district called Kensington, on 10th Street and 2nd Ave NW. Back when I lived in Calgary, I lived 2 blocks from this store and got almost everything metaphysicial I ever could have wanted from there. I hope it hasn't changed.
Apart from bookstores, Calgary has really blossomed in the years since I lived there. I hear that the newest, trendiest district is on 17th Ave SW. Princess Island park & the Eau Claire market are very fun. The island park is soothing - lots of trees and grass and water. Perfect for chilling out witha great book or tool from Sunnyside Books!
This is a very important tip for any traveller to the city. Calgary is divided into 4 quads: NW, NE, SW & SE. Center street divides the E/W and the Bow River divides the N/S. Almost every street in Calgary is a number. They are sequential, though, so walking & navigating is fairly easy, especially anything downtownish (which is very spread out). All avenues run east/west & all streets run North/south. All addresses will have either NW, SW, NE or SE attached to them. Hence, the two areas I mentioned are about a 20 minute car trip apart. It can get confusing, though, so make sure you know which quad you are heading for.
Vancouver most certainly will have stores of the type you want, but I don't know of any per se. I could check with some friends who live there and might be in the know, if you'd like. As for gardens, there are so many!!!!!
