Besides Tarot cards, what are some things you like to collect. I like to collect sand. I have sand from Turkey, Hawaii, Mexico,etc...I haven't been to most of these places, but my friends bring it back for me when they go on vacation. Plus, it's free!! Also, beer steins. Love those...Anyone from Germany who might be able to get me a really good deal on a stein, perhaps?

Jakyle: Sorry to be so naive... but what's a beer stein? I assume you don't mean beer stains? :D
I used to avidly collect anything Tolkien and at about the same time in my life I also collected anything illustrated by Brian Froud. I have since discovered that two of his books that I bought then are worth over 250 american dollars now!!!
Right now, I am starting to build up quite a collection of retro stuff... Lamps, chairs, coffee tables, glass vases, bowls, drinking glasses, light shades... especially if it is red! (except the lamps which have a definate orange glow...)
Also: DVD's and CD's... and tarot decks of course... :P

Plus books on every subject - I have waaaaaaaaay too many books, I must buy about five a week (never have the time to read them all, just BUY BUY BUY!!!), although second hand books are a fave and a saviour to the wallet :D And now acquiring tarot decks has become my new obsession!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I could've helped you with your cd collection, but no no no, you had to make me actually look up steins in the dictionary, first. (yes, I did get what you meant.)
Need any info. on cd's? My boyfriend is the KING of Rock n' Roll trivia. He also manages a record store. That helps.

I just kinda collect stuff. My husband has traveled the world with his job and he brings me back things from each country he goes too. I have nic-nacs from Turkey, England, Italy, Spain....
I like to think that I have him trained well. :-) If he gets to go to all of these places without me then he better bring something back for me. :-) hehehehe

Glass soda bottles. Dangerous with kids in the house, but... *L* When I finally get done drawing up the plans for my house, I'm hoping to have enough to build a sort of sun porch/mud room out of them. It would have a regular door (with a big window in it), but the walls would be made of all these bottles cemented together. Nifty, huh?

Well, you can probably guess anything Dragon. Right now I'm trying to find ALL the dragon, wyvern, drakes, and wurm cards of Magic the Gathering. I MIGHT get four of the Elder Dragon Legends, and the Elder Land Wurm, I need to get paid first. But I also collect the rest of the game too. I still, sometimes, collect the Pokémon Trading Card game.

Let's see....first collection that comes to mind is my pipe collection. I've been smoking pipes for about 8...Oooooo, I'm getting old...make that *9*(!)...years now and have about 20-25 nice ones that I smoke on a regular basis. That, naturally, leads to the tobaccos that I've collected...some aging quietly until the urge hits me to smoke it, some dwindling away as it passes away one bowl at a time into the ethereal blue streamers that halo my head.
Beyond that, I'd have to say the only other things I collect are books, CD's, and good cigars (for those "special" occasions).

I collect pins. I try to buy some whenever I'm on holiday, from places that I've visited. Or from things I like; I have scuba diving pins, a rubber ducky pin and a Winnie the Pooh pin.
Hmm, I wonder whether tarot pins exist... :D

I enjoy collecting coffee mugs, shoes - miniature ones that are 2-3 inches long, and dragons. I've been buying unpainted ceramic dragons and painting them myself lately. It's a bit hard on the pocket book but I get a dragon in colors I really, really like this way.

I also collect books. I have about 250 books now, and still going. I'm not looking forward to move them though! :P
Then I collect tarot decks, but only the ones I really like.
I will be collecting knives. I am so fascinated by knives it's almost a bit scary. *s*
Notebooks is another one. I love looking at a new and shiny piece of paper! Just want to fill it up with writings of any kind. :)

In addition to books and tarot decks, I collect matchbooks and matchboxes from restaurants, hotels, and other businesses. Unlike diehard matchbook collectors, though, I prefer to keep them whole...with matches intact, if possible. Good thing my insurance company doesn't know about them! ;)
Peace,
Melvis

i have kept all the greeting cards and letters i've ever received since i was around first grade. that's a lot of cards if you count b-days and holidays and all other occasion cards. i have most of the things i have written since i was 11 years old if it's important like term papers, letters, creative writing or journals. ty beanie babies, cat figurines, books, arts and crafts books and supplies, tv guide covers and other things from sci-fi shows, angel figurines, lists of quotes, old eye glasses, tarot decks... i admit it! i am just a pack rat! i have thrown a lot of stuff away in the past week that i've been hauling around forever--pressure from hubby. i grudgingly had to admit that we need the room more than i need all those old things. not the stuff that has sentimental value but fire hazards like old magazines and notebooks from high school and college that no longer hold appeal or necessity. i am still in mourning though. i'm not sure i can handle it if i see one of the neighbors using something i tossed! are there insanity clauses for repossessing junk from the neighbors? LOL

This is really bad but...
My cousin and I have a combined collection of items taken (yes, STOLEN!!!) from restaurants. It began a few years back. When the fam goes out to dinner, we just HAVE to take something.... a fork, knife, wine glass, napkin, dessert plate, menu, ice tongs, ash tray, water pitcher... you name it but never anything of great value (and we always leave a good tip). We have a couple of really ugly framed pictures, too. Some places screw things down due to people like us.....
Between the two of us we must have service for 24.

Nothing.
I spend my life getting rid of stuff. Collecting things makes me feel chained and imprisoned to the past. But that's just karma and family history that's made me like that. Lots of fleeing from nasty regimes and self-exile in the family history - so it comforts me to know that whatever happens, I can go off with a small suitcase and not feel like I'm missing anything.

Used to collect unicorns, back when they were impossible to find, and not cutesy. I have collected a few comics in my time. When we go on trips to somewhere new, I always buy at least 2 pairs of silver earrings, handmade if I can find them. (Used to only get one, but it really stinks when you loose an earring, and oops, there goes Arizona! )

Firstly: I have a bottle of vingear you might like... ;) Kidding. Just check out my Ugh Grona thread to get the joke.
Secondly: Me and Malachite have something kinda like this... Signs. From Oxford University and Mueseum... And a Rhino head... (Sign from the Rhino head, not actually the Rhino Head) that says: 'Caution: Fragile.' This brings to mind images of the 'New Rhino' male... Caring, consdierate, doing th ewashing up, and taking care of the kids... :D Makes me laugh. Should I be admitting this on the world wide web? Hmm... Just hope none of the Oxford dons are reading this. (If they are, then its all YOUR fault, Malachite!) ;) :P :*

I read all of the previous posts and kept thinking... yes, I did that... and I had those... and those... lol. Since then I have given away hundreds of books to two small local libraries and stuff in yard sales and to anyone who wants things. Just don't seem to want it any more, fills up my house. :D And I still have too much stuff, but it takes so much energy to get rid of it.
I do have one small collection though. Someone else mentioned it too. Pins, mostly from when I travel. They are all mounted on a heavy piece of fabric hanging on a bulletin board in my guest room. I also have pins from other government departments which I got as presents or trades, my big Frosh pin from my U days, and big pins from the last huge civil service strike. I also have a tiny pin with the words "Votes for Women" on it. It is the real McCoy, from my grandmother.

Just one question: by posting this in this particular thread, do you mean to say you collect children?? :D

Tarot Decks of course! I also have enough books to fill 2 Large bookcases. I WISH I were wealthy , I'd have a house with it's own library room! Wall to Wall books! And comfy chairs to sit in and read! I'd have everything- kids books , reference books , non fiction , fiction , sci-fi , classics etc!
I had quite a CD collection going at one time. I lived near the most wonderful USED CD store in the world! They bought and sold CD's . But they went out of business , I was very sad! It's hard to find a Good used CD store anymore.
As for other collections, I like to buy things , don't know if it really counts as a collection. All the candles I have seem to multiply!
And I have somewhere over 100 bottles of nail polish in my linen closet! They take up a whole shelf! My boyfriend says I should take a picture and post it on the internet! LOL!
To the person who collects elephants- I Love Elephants too!
I may decide to collect them someday!
(But I also Love dolphins , fish , and dragons!)
p.s. My son collects those new quarters , a different one for each of the 50 states.

Hi
Both my wife and I came from both a small family so we really wanted load of kids but I think after this one we will wait a bit ( hard work or what!!) I was there for each birth which was the best thing ever. And my Wife Angela was lucky to have good pregancies ( I won't go in to the chocolate stage and pickled onions @3am) If Angela had her way she would have 10 kids. I don't know how she does it when I am at work. When she goes out and I look after them ........boy do I know how she feels. But we get soooo much unconditional love from them it's worth it.
Ryan has a small collection as they escape, but I think one or 2 birds has had them, it's all a bit of fun for him.
CD collection I feel sorry for you! are they all on order? It's really good as CD's are getting so much cheaper now that poeple have their own CD burners and MP3's.
