i have been creating new gardens in my yard, which already has sooo many gardens in it. i'm surrounded by flowers.........it's soooo beautiful here.

anyway, i was wondering what your favorite plant or flower is. i have discovered, owning this yard......that bee balm is my favorite flower,

http://www.wiseacre-gardens.com/plants/perennial/beebalm.html

that and pansies, the little ones though that are perennials. they have a different name........

http://www.gardenguides.com/flowers/annuals/pansy.htm

red hot pokers are another one i am really loving :D

Right, with the aid of a dictionary to find the English names:
delphinium, love-in-a-mist, lavender...
I also love ferns, and I'm glad we have ivy on the walls.
Just one favourite plant is so difficult, there's lots and lots I like.

jade  21 Jul 2002
i just planted a beautiful deep purple delphinium!

RedWood  21 Jul 2002
Oh I love bee-boms..What color? I love the red..and the lavender..In West Virginia on my dad's land the lavender bee-bom is a wild flower..it is so nice just to be walking and see it...Also I love the humming birds that go to the bee bom..

jade  21 Jul 2002
heehee i planted a blue one........but perhaps it's actually lavendar..........i'll have to wait and see when it grows up :D

jade

ps i lovelovelove hummingbirds!

tabbycat  21 Jul 2002
I love violets and primroses, and big red poppies and all kinds of roses, especially the wild ones. I also have enchanter's nightshade in the garden - I know it's poisonous, but the flowers are so cute!

jade,
perhaps you would like to see my garden-photo journal?
(or anyone else too for that matter)
not saying i am a pro at takng picture, just a hobby of mine.
http://www.livejournal.com/users/seeknow/

my favorite flower right now today is the white lily that opened up this morning. photo of that one will be up later.
but in general i love my herbs:) and bee balm is great too. wonderful for tea!
oh and i love dahlias!

VGimlet  21 Jul 2002
Lavender, probably my favorite.
In fact, I am getting a new flowerbed when we remodel the driveway, and I am going to fill it with heather, lavender and lilacs. Very good for the bees!

Red raven  21 Jul 2002
Foxgloves and morning glories! I love big stems of foxgloves. where I used to live they had a plant around 5 feet tall in the city gardens.

I also like Venus Flytraps, but I can't put those in a garden.

wavebreaker  21 Jul 2002
I love hostas because of their beautiful leaves. And hydrangeas, campanula and rhodondendron (I have a beautiful white one in my back garden).

I never had a garden before (I always lived in apartments before I moved into this house in September last year) and I really like surrounding myself with the plants I like. Whenever I sit in the garden I'm just enjoying seeing everything grow and flower! :)

Starfish  21 Jul 2002
Roses, delphinium, tigerlilies, forget-me-nots, hydrangeas... I'm partial to periwinkle, lavender and soft pink colored flowers.

Taboo
Mr. Lincoln

Umbrae -

This is my absolute favorite rose ever!

I've already got my eye out on a 2003 J&P rose that's forthcoming Hot Cocoa Floribunda.

zorya  21 Jul 2002
this was so hard to narrow down, lol

mugwort; for magick
basil; for pasta (mmmm pesto! )
aquilegia (columbine) the wild ones
red and pink roses
ANY blue flower, especially forget-me-nots
irises; the wild and delicate ones.
tuberose; in mexico they string them together, and you can buy them for your hair. they smell sooooo good!
fritillaria meleagris (guinea hen flowers) not real pretty, just cool!
and asiatic lilies.

Sam  21 Jul 2002
African Violets...They are easy to care for and look nice.

Kismet  21 Jul 2002
I've always thought ivy, morning glories, and honeysuckle are wonderful, my house is actually decorated inside to reflect outside, all woodsy with ivy touches. :)
I have a special love of red roses as well for sentimental reasons.
Love and Light,
Kismet

amyel  21 Jul 2002
Clematis - and almost any red flower & can get (or maybe I'm just lusting after red flowers because the garden at my house is primarily mauve, pink & purple - I didn't plant it, the peopel we bought the house from did.

But really, I am hard pressed to name an absolute fave...I like so many...Daisies, pansies, violets, rhodedendrons, day lilies of all colors and types, marigolds, peonies, lavendar, marrow......I'm not a rose fan, though. Or maybe I just say that because they don't grow for me. (Or maybe they don't grow for me because they know I'm not a fan!)

Kismet  21 Jul 2002
Oh! I also love Venus Flytraps, they're so unique! My Mom had one when I was a child and I just found it fascinating!
When I lived in Germany I had a little bonsi rose tree, it was adorable. Love bonsi!
Love and Light,
Kismet

Rhiannon  22 Jul 2002
Right now I have some white morning glories in my back yard, I actually got some blooms this year!

One of my fave plants is honeysuckle. I wouldn't put it in my yard... bees... but I love the way it smells.

I'm looking forward to planting my back yard with some nice lilies for next year.

R :)

jade  22 Jul 2002
i have two honeysuckle plants.....one with a white flower and the other is yellow :D

jema, your photo album is absolutely amazing. i hope everyone took the time to check it out...........this girl has talent!!! some of your photos actually brought a tear to my eye at their complete and total beauty :D thank you for that.

my yard has about 150+ varieties of flowers in it and guess what......today i found a purple bee balm!!! and i just bought one cause i wanted more in my yard and then.....there it is, well, actually about 5 of them! i love the fact that i can go into my garden and discover something new everyday.

i spent the day today digging up the grass around my new corkscrew willow and getting the dirt all nice and then placing into the ground 6 cement geckos! they are chasing each other deosil around the tree :D but i can't decide what to plant among them because i don't want the plants to cover them up. i want everyone and myself included to be able to enjoy these stones...............so............any suggestions?

i did have one thought........perhaps some lavendar cause can't i keep them small? mungston and perhaps some spanish as well?

love and light,
jade :D

i have added 3 new gardens for flowers to my yard this week! and i barely have any grass as it is............:D i love flowers :D

JEMA!!!! I just went to your site and the blue delph's are *STUNNING*! I have some deep purple ones, but I am now lusting over these blues! Really, really outstanding! [can you tell i'm excited?]

jema  22 Jul 2002
i am so happy you all liked the photos.

jade

*off to check out her garden*

mermaiden  22 Jul 2002
A few are orchids and bonsais (since I didn't specify which species you can tell I'm not a gardener). LOL I do have an air plant though.

divinerguy  22 Jul 2002
The Mister Lincoln hybrid tea rose. As red and pretty as can be, with a scent that exudes romance like nothing else.

Violet Gargoyle  22 Jul 2002
One flower shouldn't surprise anyone, its all in the name :D

However, I was always first partial to Lilacs.

I prefer fragrant flowers best: lilacs, violets, jasmine, and roses....

Mlle Lenormand  22 Jul 2002
My favourites would have to be daisies. I never took much notice until I did a close up photo of one. They look deceptively simple, but when you look up real close there is another world in there.

You must check out Taboo, for heavenly scented yellows, Sunsprite.

Forget Jackson and Perkins roses. They are grafted.

Try this place: http://www.heirloomroses.com/

All they carry are root roses, no grafting. Disease resistant, no suckers, hearty, much more aromatic.

A must for any rose lover.

Like minitures? They have them.

Like cookies and cream but want a climber? Try 'Fourth of July'.

Starfish  22 Jul 2002
Thank you for posting the link; I've ordered a catalog - what a stunning site :)

My love of roses gave my eldest daughter her middle name - Rose.

:TLOVE Starfish

napaea  22 Jul 2002
What a great spread! I am somewhat envious of you all with gardens. I am still one of the 'apartment" people. Well, it's a unit, but the landlord planted his own garden in our "yard" (a strip of land next to a concrete driveway).

I love: lilies, delphinium, pansies, snapdragons (so cute!), lavender, tulips, daffodils. also ivy, spearmint, LEMON BASIL. yummmm.

i can't wait to get my own house and have a garden myself. you have all inspired me!!!!!

(now to find rich husband so i can spend all day writing kids books in the garden!)

jade  23 Jul 2002
umbrae,

i did a search on that site and couldn't find the 'fourth of july'

:(

jade

ps my favorite roses are lilac/purple. i have a miniature lilac rose bush beside my pond and another full sized lilac rose behind it :D:D:D:D:D

Umbrae  23 Jul 2002
Their entire selection is not online or in the catologue (but the latter is best). Call them, or take a trip down to Oregon (stop by my place I buy dinner...).

jade  23 Jul 2002
ooooh, is that seafood i smell cooking?

:D:D:D

Look guys, you might plan for next year, when the roses are in bloom.

There are a few of us in the Seattle area, Emily2otters is a ferryboat ride away, VGimlet is just down the road a-piece, Mystical Dragon is a neighbor, there are a few more, you guys get here…I cook Chicken and Salmon (and I am a damn fine cook for an old guy).

Oh hell, we could have an Aeclectic Convention!

Ball's in your court.

Wait! We can all meet at Jade's and go to the Hot Spings!

(I just live in a yucky city)

jade  24 Jul 2002

Oooh TarotLady! I LOVE hostas too! I have over 20 varieties in my garden!

But my real favorites are Tall Bearded Iris! I have about 40 cultivars, all named!

jema  25 Jul 2002
http://www.pristine.nu/camera/june/hosta1.jpg

hosta from the garden.
oh they are all blooming now - the most delicate lilac flowers.
(but those photos i already shown you)

anyone else here that got a garden journal?

starr  30 Jul 2002
Roses are #1, 27 bushes and counting, Reds are Taboo, Mr. Lincoln, Black Ice, Black Gold, Yellows are Sunsprite and Old Faithful, Whites= Evening Star, Just Joey is apricot and Double Delight and Berries and Cream for multi-color.

Dellphiniums and Spanish Lavender are neck and neck for 2nd.
Although Hostas are right up there.

Heirloom Roses is a wonderful place to visit and inhale.

My goal is to do away with most of the lawn and have more rose beds.

catlin  31 Jul 2002
My fav plant is the Ginko tree. To me it is a symbol of long life and endurance.

I also love Blue Wisteria, Lilacs and lavender for its colour and scent.

Strega  05 Aug 2002
Tulips for me! :)

Liliana  05 Aug 2002
yellow roses and varigated ivy

also tiger lilies, and stargazer lilies, lavender, lilac, and bleeding hearts

:THP

mara  05 Aug 2002
:) I'd have to say white lilies at the moment. I bought a bunch a few weeks ago mixed with some lavender coloured flowers (forgot the name) and the smell was sooooo beautiful. When I would wake up and walk down the stairs the first thing I smelled were the lillies :)

As for plants, I love them all. My whole house is filled with plants (all three storeys), we have a very large attic and even that is filled with plants....I just love plants.

If I had to choose a favourite (although that'd be hard), I'd have to say maybe Aloe Vera or Palms or Figs or probably Wisteria (our whole garden is filled with that). No I don't think I have a favourite, I love em all :)

Mara

cherrywind  05 Aug 2002
Calla lilies are my favourite flowers. I am currently growing 4 of them.

I also love mints, venus fly traps, and any sort of cactus/succulent (all of which I'm also growing :D).

Yogi Cat  24 Aug 2002
My favorite flowers and plants are camelias, magnolias, roses, violets and all springs bulbs - I'm also into succulants - I have created a large round garden with the succulants and have a bird bath in the centre. I love gardening but want more plants than I have room for.

jade  25 Aug 2002
i just got 4 new trees. and one of them is a crape myrtle! it's our 'feature tree' and we are going to build a little meditation patio around it!!!

here's a link to the one i got!

http://www.crapemyrtle.com/Catawba21.jpg

very pretty in the spring and then the bark is like an arbutus tree.........absolutely beautiful.

we also planted a weeping dwarf ***** willow!

a corkscrew willow in the front.

and a very cool ecclectic looking cedar with wonky branches......very cool feature for behind the waterfall in our pond.

aaah, i love my yard :D

anyone else love the smell of flox (am i spelling that right?)
