inspired from the wonderbra thread.........
so how far do you go to avoid dis-ease?
we eat organically, don't wear antipersperant (use that deoderant crystal instead), don't wear perfumes (they are toxic), try to always talk out of feelings instead of holding them inside - left to fester.
we don't take vitamins....i don't believe in them.
hmm, i'm sure there's more......
what about you all?

I think vitamins are good..as long as you don't do excess..I do use the crystal...I don't wear perfume because i don't see the point..Other then that..No i don't go to extremes..i personally don't see the point..Sure i could eat organic..and someday i would like to..There are still a million toxins in the air and the food is it really that healthy? How much of the earth has lots its vitamins over the years..Nothin we have is exactly cancer free..So I don't worry about it and don't do to much to avoid it..If I did..I would think I would live in a bubble..but then later find out the bubble was made out of this plastic that is unhealthy and so on..I just take care of my body the best I can..

AND! For a city girl like me: Get out and spend time in the nature, get some fresh air... aahhh! There's nothing like it!

For me, dis-ese is only a big problem if it's psyhological. I can cop with physical dis-ease, but I cannot cope with psychological versionsof it. For instanc, people talking about me behind my back, me worrying excessively over things, as I'm proe to do, etc... So, I try to avoidall the causes of these problems: I try my damn best in everything, so I can't turn round and start wprrying that I haven't dne enough. I don't talk about others nastily, no do I give them any reason to talk about me in that ay either. (Atleast, not intentionally. I can't hep it if not everybody loves me to bits can I!? LOL. Some people just don't like you, and you gotta deal wi htht, but other than that...)
As for phsical dis-ease, I am happy in the knowledge that my job keps me fit, and I eathealthily as my paents will alow! When I move out IO will be eating organic, probably veggie, and takingmore of an active part in my physical wel-being.
Perfume, I wear... Deodorant I wear... I have Hyperhydrosis, which means I have hyperactive sweat glands. It oesn't mean I smell cuz sweat only smells if you don't wash for few days. It just means I sweat more than I should. :( I saw a deoderant stone thing on my trip to Salisbury, but didn't have enough money to get one. (£7 for one!)
Like Jade I always talk about my feeling, which sometimes causes tension with my fmily, cuz they think thatkeeping anything negativeinside is best. I don't, and I let it all out... Then they think I'm doing the wrong thing and all hell breaks loose. But I knowhat if I don't let it all out, it'll well-up inside me and eventually explode.

I do wear make up sometimes..I feel it does enhance..not globs tho ugh..I don't feel Like i just can not go out of the house if I dont have makeup on...
Vitamins--I feel that some people do need them..I also believe if people were able to take the time and energy they could work with vitamins for bi-polar and adhd..I have heard quite a few cases of people doing this..maybe the person will still need some medication but maybe not as much...some in my family take over 20 pills a day..i would think it would make you sick more then anything...

Not a lot really... My mother thinks I'm terrible at looking after myself and I guess I am... ;) I don't really pay that much attention to what I eat (except that I don't eat meat), I hardly ever exercise because I hate it, I use all sorts of stuff that's probably very bad for me (deodorant, perfume... although most of it from the Body Shop). But I've always been a very healthy person, I hardly ever get really ill.
I think my sense of humour keeps me healthy, more than anything else.

For myself, I think everything in moderation. I try to :
eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and fish.
Drink a lot of water.
Excercise every day.
Do something to feed my soul every day, even if it's just to stop and take a moment to enjoy the random path of a flying butterfly.
Do something nice for someone else, even something really small can make a difference in someone elses day.
Once a week (at least) do something I've been putting off. Call my mom. Clean out the hall closet. Sew on a button.
Avoid overly processed stuff.

you know, i've talked to people who say, why eat organically, you are getting crap in the air etc too.....
part of the reason that i eat organically is because the farms where organics are grown are different. different energy, different kinda folk, and the employees are treated differently too......AND they aren't exposed to all those chemicals. so i feel that i'm supporting ALOT by eating organically :D
every little thing we do makes a difference. EVERY LITTLE THING.

when we moved to follow my hubby's job. we located the least polluted area we could find and moved there. in the woods!
i also eat organic, and grow our own veggies, so we can eat fresh as well. i meditate and do yoga daily. i also use the deoderant stone and don't wear perfumes. i also use natural cleaning products, laundry det. shampoos etc. i don't smoke (anymore), but i do like a glass or two of red wine at night, for my heart. :-D and to keep my soul healthy, i read tarot and visit the forum on a daily basis!

my parents make me take vitamins, and i especially like them when i'm sick, because they drug the discomfort away. i try not to eat to much candy at once because it gives me canker sores. that's about it. ;)

I don't wear make-up either. Haven't done for a long time, and wasnever any good at it when I did anyway! I do it mainly cuz I can't afford cosmetics, and I don't trust many brands not to test on animals. I also hate the feeling of having make-up on, and ts just too much hassle!
And VGimlet said alot in her/his? post... I had forgottento say about that stuff. I always like to ake sure my inner self is happy and healthy. ofte find that if my soul is sick, so's my body.. Doing nice things for others, lik VGimlet said stops this, as does stopping to sel the roses once in a while, or splashng i a puddle, apprecitaing a sunset....

I eat organic foods, avoid red meat, eat plenty of fruits & veggies, natural & whole grain breads, soy products, take vitamins, have an autofilter plugged into the cigarette lighter socket in my car, use essential oils, have an water purifier on my tap, listen to healing & meditative music, avoid caffeine, drink herbal tea, visit the countryside on weekends, love my family, share with my friends, grown herbs & roses and then take some to work,...lots more, but I'll call it quits here.
Namaste,

I do wish I could afford to buy organically..it is quite expensive up here in Michigan...I would grow vegetables..but I swear our garage is an animal refuge..We have raccoons, possums, squirrels, groundhogs etc..that eat everything...We don't want to tear it down yet..Then where would they live..

Wow, that must be frustrating, Redwood. I admire you for trying to co-exist with your critters! Couldn't you built an enclosure round your garden to stop them getting in? (Needn't be expensive, maybe just something made with dumped timber and chickenwire?)

I'm on the Atkins diet(Which freaks people out, but he's recently been proven CORRECT,and has been asked to speak at the latest conference of the A.M.A,) I work out at the gym 5 times a week, drink LOTS of water, take vitamins. (They work for me) I don't let people push me around and destroy my self respect. I ever heed the rule of three. I play music. i do magick. I don't smoke. I express my ideas. I do stained glass. I insist they use a condom. I wear too much beautiful perfume oil, which I blend myself. I smell like a nag champa factory. At risk of outcry, let's call it aromatherapy. I don't have roommates. When my dad turns critical on the phone, I tell him I love him very much, "nice to talk to you, Dad, Bye" And hang up. I don't drink bleach. I avoid my ex boyfriend.

No meat, no smoke, no alcohol, no sun, no bug spray.
I use lots of vitamins, plus olive, oregano, garlic pills & apple cider vinegar pills, which are natural antibiotics. Cocoa is a health food. And I use more natural bug killers like orange peel spray & boric acid powder & vaccuum attachment. Air filters are a must, and regular exercise is important.
Never watch disease programs in the media. Bad juju of others must be avoided & neutralized. Violence & popular opinion are toxic.
Washing hands when returning home is critical to avoiding infection & viruses.
Coffee , perfume, & incense are the finer things of life and must be maintained. (Cheap perfume , though , is more like bug spray.)
By the way, don't you think the fumes from new tarot cards might do us in?

Zorya - I take 360 mg of EPA oil and 240 mg of DHA oil each day. If I remember, I'll take a second dose later in the day.

And like Kiama, I do not hide my feelings or emotions. I may not talk about them to all and sundry, but never ever bottle them up.

Hmm... let's see... I don't smoke (never have), don't drink alcohol, don't wear perfume or makeup (because frankly I'm too lazy and like someone else said, it feels terrible to have it on your face), don't eat much meat (too expensive), don't exercise ("no sports!"). I don't hide my feelings, so I'm called moody by my family .
But I think it doesn't make much of a difference - it's mostly the genes. My family has good genes... We don't get ill - much - and we don't age as fast as other people :D

I work-out 2-4 times a week (and probubly ought to more) , that is step aerobics, a whole half hour of abs, lower body, and today I lifted weights. I got into this many years ago and have been addicted to the endorphins ever since. ( You probubly wouldn't know by looking at me though because unfortunately I do not Look like the lady on "abs and buns of steel" even though I do the exersises!) So, unless I am very sick which is extremely rare, I work out. Lots of times I force myself to get started and I really really don't feel like it but I am almost always happy I did! I also Love to swim in the summer.
I Still don't lose weight though! I'm not sure if it's a combo of not being so young anymore, not Enough exersise (could be too much time sitting at the computer?!) or eating fattening foods. I try to have a good diet but it varies. I always eat at least one piece of fruit daily. I LOVE love love love grapefruits! I eat a lot of garlic as I make and eat a lot of italian food, spagetti, pizza etc. I really don't care for red meat all that much , though I do eat it sometimes. I try to avoid processed meats with nitrates (hotdogs, balony etc). My biggest diet downfall is butter and margerine! I find myself eating Way too much margerine on bread, popcorn, in baked goods etc.
I quit smoking 7 years ago! (but is a lot of extra weight healthier than smoking? I hope so but I'm not so sure) )I do take vitamin C and vitamin E .
I tend to be really physically healthy. I definitely believe in sleep! Sleep is very healing. If you are tired, sleep!
I avoid , if at all possible , people who bother me or are just boring. I DO try to Laugh!
And I also try to always wash my hands after returning from a public place , like shopping. And a good tarot reading can be healing as well!

I also try to avoid any medication if at all possible. For instance I believe it is Not healthy to overload on aspirin, tylenol, over the counter cough medications etc etc etc. Go to bed instead and forget all that artificail junk that they push in t.v. commercials every day. If your body has a fever, Let it have a fever, it's there for a reason! (what a concept). Just about everyone I know disagrees with me on this one though. That said, I do occasionally break down and take sinus medication or tylenol for a really annoying head-ache/sinus head-ache.

Not much.
I don't exercise as much as I used to, and it shows. I drink alcohol & caffeine (not to excess), I wear underwires :) , I've had body piercings (but no tattooes, because I am really a pain wimp), I eat red meat.
I do take vitamins. I do drink lots of water. I do take the stairs as much as possible. I do try to eat more salads and have dramatically cut down on sweets. I try to not take a med for absolutely everything...it's a last resort for me.
I wear sunscreen, because I am very fair and burn very easy. I use bug spray, because I think I am developing an allergy to bug bites (I swell up really bad from simple mosquito bites!).
But....I try to avoid pesticides as much as possible, and our lawn has suffered because of it. I don't use weed-killers. I pull my weeds by hand - or just let 'em go. Dandelions and clover in my lawn do not upset me! I feed the birds and let milkweed grow for the butterflies. We recycle and compost alot! I don't use squirrel, racoon, rabbit or skunk deterrents, either. I say, let 'em eat it!
And I don't feel bad about any of it.

Throw out all the nonessential numbers.
This includes age, weight and height.
Let the doctor worry about them -- that is why you pay him.
Keep only cheerful friends.
The grouches pull you down.
If you really need a grouch, there are
probably a few of your relatives to do the job.
Keep learning.
Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever.
Just never let your brain idle.
Laugh often, long and loud.
Laugh until you gasp for breath.
Laugh so much that you can be tracked in the store by your distinctive laughter.
The tears happen.
Endure, grieve, and move on.
The only person who is with you your entire life is yourself.
Surround yourself with what you love,
whether it is family, pets, keepsakes,
music, plants, hobbies, whatever.
Your home is your refuge.
Cherish your health.
If it is good -- preserve it.
If it is unstable -- improve it.
If it is beyond what you can improve -- get help.
Don't take guilt trips.
Go to the mall, the next county, a foreign country
