~ Worst movie ever

What is the *WORST* movie, in your opinion, that you ever sat all the way through? Dig deep into the recesses of your mind - draw out all those terrible flicks you wish you could have missed... the ones that left you numb with boredom, shocked by it's rediculousness or just plain p**sed off that you paid good money to watch that trash!

Starfish  15 Jul 2002
As of late... Vanilla Sky Too confusing to be watched sober }) I want 2 hours of my life refunded back to me!

:T3C Starfish

Liliana  15 Jul 2002
Time Code, its not exactly bad but you better be able to pay 110% attention to be able to understand a bit of it, because it divides the screen into 4 sections and shows 4 diifferent groups of character AT THE SAME TIME, you know how impossible it is to even remotely understand with 2 toddlers? lol

Interesting concept, poorly done

I really need to watch Vanilla Sky, Pollux was chatting with me when it was playing lol

:THP

2001
i hate it.
it gives me the creeps.

and did steven segal ever make a good movie? his name on the poster is a sure sign not to watch the movie.

i also didn't like mission impossible 2

truthsayer  15 Jul 2002
i disliked the talented mr. ripley. i felt like this movie had potential but some stretches were so boring. then i was flabbergasted by the lengths that ripley went to to get what he wanted. his behavior was so shocking and repulsive to me that i felt like i needed a bath afterwards.

i also disliked "in too deep". it just felt like it would never end. i didn't like the most recent star wars-attack of the clones either. it had lots of action at the expense of character development. then there were boring patches, too.

Sorceress_Jade  15 Jul 2002
AI.

I could have handled it if the movie ended with him being stranded underwater there reaching for the fairy. But THEN they brought in th Aliens!

I couldn't believe I'd sat through the whole movie to have it end like that. It was SO stupid.

I really liked both Time Code and Vanilla Sky. I always forget the title of time code when i'm trying to describe it to other ppl tho. It's on my recommended movies list. :)

ANother stupid movie, (i stil can't believe i sat through the whole thing) The lord of the Rings! Boring! ANd also, Dude, where's my car? You have to have an IQ of like 5 to like it! Argh!

Red raven  15 Jul 2002
For me it's a toss-up between Titanic and Scary Movie. Titanic just sucked, being waaaaayyyy to long, and much more boring. and scary movie wasn't even funny, it was just disgusting.

Dark Inquisitor  15 Jul 2002
The Blair Witch Project.

I rented it and fell asleep twice trying to watch it. Then I decided any horror movie that was able to put me to sleep was not worth watching.

The scene in the tent where they are being attacked by "unknown forces" reminded me of something your 8 yr. old brother would sneak up and do. Totally laughable.

The stunning dialog could be obtained by just standing in the bathroom at your local high school.

It must have been over my head.

Marion  15 Jul 2002
....except "A League of their Own".

And, hahaha, I bet none of you has seen this howler... "The Miniskirt Mob". aaarrrgh. It is absolutely nothing like what you would think from the title, which is how I got sucked into seeing it. It is about a particularly violent motorcycle gang who chase some poor innocent couple around for the entire movie, terroizing them. The sets are pathetic, the dialogue is hysterically awful and the acting defies anything I ever had the misfortune to watch. My room-mate at the time (I was in college) insisted we stay because she had paid and darn it she was going to get her money's worth. hahahaha

bellesmybaby  15 Jul 2002
I'd have to agree with Vanilla Sky, and AI. Here's an even more recent one to add to that list. The Royal Tennenbaums. I even went to all my movie review websites to make sure it wouldn't be a bomb, there were no bad reviews and I think it was even nominated for best picture! Maybe I am missing something here but this is one of the lamest movies I have ever seen!

Oh my, I had forgotten about Scary Movie. I sat through both of them with my kid and his friends. I managed to cope with Scary Movie 1, but the number 2 was just about the worst thing I have ever seen in my life. I just sat there pinching myself and saying "this can't be true - will someone please wake me up?". No-one woke me though (unfortunately :D )

cherrywind  15 Jul 2002
There are so many! Ha.
I would have to agree with the stupid part in AI. What was with the stupid aliens? Blah.
Titanic was just awful, and Scary Movie was too.

However, I'd have to add a few to the list:
Breast Men (an awful movie starring Davie Schwimmer as the man who invents breast implants  )
James Dean (a supposed "biography" seemed really heavily romanticized though, more so than most movie biographies!)
Deep Blue Sea (it has LL Cool J in it  )

Liliana  15 Jul 2002
I just remembered, Halloween H20 was the worst Ive ever seen, they should of payed me to see it, I think I came a half hour late and didnt miss a thing, anything interesting happened in the last half hour of the movie, and even that wasnt interesting enough to watch

:THP

purplelady  15 Jul 2002
there are two that come to mind. One was "Eyes Wide Shut" (Or is it Eyes Wide Open?) :P ! with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Yuck! We wanted to walk out of the theatre but didn't.

Then there was one with Brad Pitt, called "snatch". It got all these great reviews too! It was about groups of mobsters in England . So awful I turned off the vcr and returned the tape!

Now I can't afford to go to the movies!

(edited because I had movie name wrong.)

Natalya  15 Jul 2002
for me it was , Wild wild west....didnt like it at all

amyel  15 Jul 2002
Ok, ok, all these are "recent"....but digging waaaaaaayyyyyyy back there are two I recall as being the worst I have ever seen:

1. "Texas Chainsaw Massacre"; and
2. "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Part 2" (the first one was so bad it was funny - the second just sucked).

Now, I have not seen Vanilla Sky, AI or Time Code, so I can not comment on these.

Faerie Lin  15 Jul 2002
Freddy Got Fingered

The horse, the elephant... thats all I'm gonna say.

Lin

lunalafey  15 Jul 2002
Blair witch is one I will NEVER see, I know a few people that got sick from the filming technique.
I could not get into Jerry Maguire(sp?) tom cruise movie, sorry...boring...and what was it, the English Paitent? LONG to!!!

RedWood  15 Jul 2002
The Talented Mr. Ripley..LIke truthsayer said..it had potential..you could not pay me enough to see that movie again..I felt like i was watching it for 5 hours...

Starship Troopers..again good potential..some parts were funny but all around awful movie...

For the classics fan!
For Whom the Bell Tolls...never ever again!!

Kyrie Blue  15 Jul 2002
Dumb and Dumber....apt description of a movie that in my opinion was a waste of film.

jade  15 Jul 2002
mission to mars......... i've never seen an entire movie in "slow" motion before. it was soooooooooooo slow.

destinyawaitsme  15 Jul 2002
Hehe...I don't know some of the movies you all have listed. I agree are not the most tasteful, but still funny.

Dude Where's my car? - I think you have to be stoned to find this one good

Jeepers Creepers - A very very dumb scary movie...I wasn't scared, I was laughing...everyone knows not to go in the hole looking for the person who just went into the hole and disappeared while looking for another person who disappeared after entering the same hole.

Unfaithful - Richard Gere was just kind of pathetic in this one. THey should have renamed this one "How many sexual positions can Diane Lane get into?"

But my all time most hated movie IS

Killer Clowns from Outer Space: it was made in the 80's my brother always made me watch it....it's horrible. A big waste of money.

kayne  16 Jul 2002
There are a LOT of bad movies...

For me - any sequal that is designed for the basic purpose of raking in cash... eg. Just saw Blade 2, Rush Hour 2 and Men in Black 2.

One of my all time favourite movies is The Talented Mr Ripley... I have watched it about four times and own the DVD - I thought it was brilliant... :P

Maybe you're referring to "The Devil's Own"? That's where Brad Pitt plays an IRA member. I've never seen the complete film, because I didn't like it...
"Fight Club" though was very good, at least I think so... ;)

Films I hate: anything with Richard Gere or Gwyneth Paltrow in it (she completely ruined "Emma" and "Shakespeare in Love" for me, these could have been really good films...).
And "The Exorcist"... I once saw that one with my brother and we laughed all the way through, it was so ridiculous! ;)

Hey RedWood: this is one of my favourite movies ever! Strangely enough, I have heard that it flopped in the States but was a huge success in Europe. I wonder if this is true.

Marion  16 Jul 2002
Like Diana and others, I am noticing that some of you are listing movies as 'the worst' that I really liked. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess.
I also gave up on Vanilla Sky, but one of my buds at the office can talk about it forever he thought it was so great. :)

kelli  16 Jul 2002
I Know What You Did Last Summer....

I left at intermission... yep - that bad

Rhiannon  16 Jul 2002
OK, OK, I have to defend a few movies here....

I really enjoyed "Vanilla Sky". I also really enjoy "Dude, Where's my Car?". Every time they I see them go into the cage in the basement with Andy Dick and Brent Spiner, I laugh my @ss off! Stoopid Llamas! And the thing... in the car... with Fabio! ROFLOL

Movies I've hated. Um... pretty much anything with Winona Ryder in it. I think she's a horrible actress. She's ruined so many movies for me. And now I won't be able to see the new Adam Sandler movie because of her. Grrrrr!

The first mind-numbingly boring movie I remember seeing was "Passage to India". I was about 13, so that could be why it was boring.

The second totally boring movie was "The Piano" and it won awards. Go figure.

But I have to agree the "Eyes Wide Shut" was bad. Very, very bad.

R :)

Geenius at Wrok  16 Jul 2002
Well, there was this godawful thing some so-called friends of mine foisted on me called "Elevator Girls in Bondage" . . . though I can't really say I "saw" it, since I got up after about 10 minutes and pressed "stop." (For the record, there was no bondage, there were no girls—the entire cast consisted of men in drag—and the audio was so terrible that you could only hear lines spoken directly into the camera, and they were usually non sequiturs like, "This elevator only goes down!")

The worst movie I've ever sat through in its entirety (I had to—I was reviewing it) was "Mixed Nuts." High jinks at a suicide hotline! What a great comedy premise! Directed by Nora Ephron! With Adam Sandler in a minor yet thoroughly aggravating role! For this movie alone, Hollywood should be burned to the ground and the earth beneath it salted.

Bella  16 Jul 2002
i agree on Eyes Wide Shut....boring!

I also can't stand anything with Adam Sandler, and most stuff with Jim Carrey (except Liar, Liar)

jade  16 Jul 2002
it really is in the eye of the beholder. hence, that's why they make sooo many different movies.

i loved many of the movies mentioned here. vanilla sky was an excellent twist which i really enjoyed. i had heard it was hard to follow so i went into watching it with that in my head, which assisted me in keeping it straight :D although, (almost) anything with tommie in it i love :D (i even named my fridge after him cause i have the most wonderful fridge :D:D:D:D heehee) BUT eyes wide shut was a weird movie that i never enjoyed (sorry tommie) heehee

regardless, thanks for sharing everyone :D

in light,
jade

I was very disappointed.

I just happened to be at the vcr rental store but I didn't even rent anything because I couldn't find one movie that looked good!

tarotlady, the movie isn't fight club OR devil's own. It's called "snatch" , I only remembered when I happened to spot it today at the video rental place! Repulsively violent, long, and pointless. It's about as gross as the name!

I confess, I'm a "titanic" fan and own the video.

tabbycat  16 Jul 2002
Only film I ever walked out on was Solaris - it's meant to be an S-F classic but it doesn't help that it's mostly in Russian. It has subtitles, but I couldn't stand that much of the cast rushing around the spacestation saying "What?!", which makes up most of the action.
I also don't care for Spielberg's stuff. I liked Close Encounters, but hated ET. The guy could be a great director if he showed some restraint, but I always reach a point in his films where he goes too far and it all goes to hell in a handbasket!

Jilly

Sorry, Sam, but I liked Lord of the Rings! It's very true to the books and I think the director was very brave to keep his vision pure and not cave in to commercial pressure and make it into a kids film.

Red raven  16 Jul 2002
Hey, anyone ever see the old 70's S-F 'Logan's Run'? that was so bad it wasn't even funny.

oh yes, and I'd like to add to this list:almost Every disney sequel made within the last 8 years. XP

purplelady  16 Jul 2002
"Logan's Run" ! :
Look red raven , I had this ThinG for Jan Michael Vincent, o.k. ?! ( please tell me he was in it?!)
And the movie showed people meeting their dates through the internet before anyone ever heard of the word "internet" ! ;) .

Jenny-Li  16 Jul 2002
OK, lousy movies, here goes:

ANYthing with either Burt Reynolds or what's-his-name...Chuck [eww] Norris...

ANY of the Scream - Scary movie - I know what you did last summer (yes, yes, yes, to me they're all the same, even though I know some of them are meant to be parodies of the others - I can barely see the difference...) -kind of movies

Does anyone remember Puppet masters? Well that's one of the worst ones I've seen, I left the movie theatre, but had to see the damn thing with my bf and his brother some time later (his brothers choice, I must add...!). I'd place Species in this category too - especially the scene where she rips the spine out of a girl in the ladies room...

That's the worst ones I can think of, and I guess they tell you mainly one thing about me: I don't like "scary movies"! ;):D

But Sam: I LOVED Lord of the Ring - I could barely breathe the whole movie, cause it was so beautiful, I just sat there cursing the fact I was born in a time when the fairy tales seem to be over... :) Ahhh, I can't wait for the next one!

I have terrible news for you Jenny-Li, I just saw an advertisement on T.V. for new shows next season. They're making a whole T.V. series out of "species" . ( here in the US).
I don't believe I've had the displeasure of seeing the movie. And I don't want to see the series either! I have plans to turn OFF the T.V. and read a good book!!!

I have reached the conclusion that most Disney films should be X-rated, i.e. forbidden for the under-18s. They turns kids' brains into mush.

I think those loud and awful kid's TV-channels are worse, what are they called: Cartoon Network is the one my brother keeps watching, and it's definitely turning his brain to mush...

(He's not allowed to watch anymore, he just does when he gets up in the morning before anyone else is up to stop him - the damn channel is on 24 hours, I think! Phew!}))

Diana  16 Jul 2002
Okay Jenny, let's make Cartoon Network forbidden for the under-21's. (That way I can still get to watch Dexter and Johnny Bravo. :D )

Logan's Run and 2001 Space Odessey are Classics! I just gotta love em!...but I can understand why some people might not like them. :)

I wonder if some of us have gotten spoiled by special effects these days. Star Wars: A New Hope which had outstanding special effects for its day has some pretty shabbly effects compared to movies these days. I still love it though!

RedWood  16 Jul 2002
Kayne! You liked the Talented Mr. Ripley..Please explain what you liked about it??..I am just absolutely shocked someone liked that movie...I like Winona Ryder! Also..I admit when I was a kid I had seen almost every Chuck Norris Movie ever made..I even watched his show Walker: Texas Ranger...HEHE..

destinyawaitsme  16 Jul 2002
I'm sorry, but I hate those Kung-Fu movies. When I was little and mom was making the 2 and a half hour commute to college to get a master's degree, me and my older brothers had to stay with our grandparents. For some weird reason my two brothers and my grandparents LOVED Chuck Norris...me, I'd rather watch Dirty Dancing (I think that is the only good movie Patrick Swayze made by the way...Ghost was way too mushy for me.) Anyways, I was forced to sit through hours of Steven Seagal, Chuck Norris, bruce Lee, and all the rest kick butt over and over and over again. Thank god TNT and USA have opened there horizons since the early nineties.

oriel  16 Jul 2002
AI.
What a waste of Jude Law!!

also:
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (I always fall asleep in the middle)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (worst movie EVER)

I did enjoy Dude Where's My Car...yes it is STUPID...but lol

zorya  16 Jul 2002
hey! i really liked logan's run!

this may be really cliche, but it truly is the worst movie ever made; "plan 9 from outer space".

VGimlet  17 Jul 2002
Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
As a bad movie lover (Ed Wood film festival, anyone?) and a horror movie fan I tried to watch this "classic" movie three times. And fell asleep three times!

catlin  17 Jul 2002
I highly disliked "Dark Angel" and Matrix.

Diana  17 Jul 2002
catlin: You didn't like Matrix?????????????????????????

I'm gonna pack my bags and take the next plane to Germany and we're going to watch that movie together, my friend. I'll prove to you what a masterpiece it is.

(And after the movie, we'll talk Tarot, and you'll show me some spells and we'll go and have Apfelstrudel and coffee, okay?)

catlin  17 Jul 2002
Hey, Diana,

When do you jump in the next plain?! I need someone who saves me from dying out of boredom here!

Hm, today would be a perfect day for a hot Apfelstrudel with Vanilla sauce or cream and a nice coup of coffee.

jade  17 Jul 2002
i'm coming too, with my dvd player so you can see all the special effects!!!

OMGoddess, that is such an amazing movie!!!!!!

love
jade

ps i don't know what treats you two are discussing but i want some too heehee

Diana  17 Jul 2002
jade: your DVD player won't work here - the Canadian electrical stuff is different. I'll take mine - then we can follow the Rabbit.

Oh jade, you're going to love the Apfelstrudel - it's like apple pie, but much nicer!!

Hey, and if you come, you can show me some spells too!

Anyone else want to come along? Catlin will find room for us in her flat, I'm sure. We just need to take along a sleeping-bag. :D

jade  17 Jul 2002
let's follow that rabbit!

I'm in for sure, I'm the only one I know (except for Diana and Jade!) who liked that movie, I definitely want to join in!

Nevermind the sleeping bags girls - don't forget to pack your "Lederhosen"...!! :D}):D

Jenny :)

Faerie Lin  17 Jul 2002
I wanna come hehe!! I can watch the Matrix over and over and over again! LOVE THAT MOVIE. Thats the only movie I actually rented so many times it was stupid that I didn't just buy the dang DVD. Dang, too bad about the different electrical system, I would bring my theater sound system!!!! Lets make iced mochas (with brownies blended into them) and lots of whipped cream!!!

Lin

Liliana  17 Jul 2002
I want to come, I can discuss the Christian Theological aspects of the movie which are kind of interesting, even if you ARENT Christian ;)

And Ill bring bags of all my favorite weird flavor Microwave popcorn, like Apple Cinnamon ;)

:THP

Diana  17 Jul 2002
Faerie Lin: A friend of mine bought a DVD-player with the sole purpose of watching Matrix!!

Liliana: In case we never make it to Catlin's (although my bags are all packed - I'm just hunting desperately for my Lederhosen), I would be interested to hear about these Christian theological aspects you talk about. Is there a web-site or something that you know of? Or would you be prepared to start a thread on this?

niah  17 Jul 2002
I thought it would be a great movie! It wasn't. I was so disappointed.

:TCHAR

Liliana  17 Jul 2002
Well Ill have to watch the movie again and do a bit of poking around, hopefully I can figure out where I heard it from lol

:THP

kayne  18 Jul 2002
I want to come and watch the Matrix with you all too! I could be the token male :P

I saw a preview for MATRIX 2 before watching Blade 2... it made Blade 2 worth watching but I am sceptical about another sequal... It is coming out in 2003 - wouldn't it be cool if we could all meet up and fill a cinema with Aeclecticans as part of our Tarot Conference??? :D

wavebreaker  18 Jul 2002
Kayne: you can come if you bring Tim Tams. Loads of them, all flavours.... :D ;)

kayne  18 Jul 2002
Yes yes yes!!! I am the Tim Tam KING! (Especially when it comes to the art of drinking coffee through one! :P I hope you were showen this when you were in Aus TarotLady?!)

wavebreaker  18 Jul 2002
I don't drink coffee... I have my Tim Tams pure... ;)

Just wondering: how many packets of Tim Tams would I get for a tarot deck??? :D

Jenny-Li  18 Jul 2002
I can't keep quiet any longer now, curiosity gets the better of me - as usual...!

WHAT ARE TIM TAMS???

Jenny :)

kayne  18 Jul 2002
15 packs... that would last at least a day... LOL

If you want to trade - I am intereted! Although I don't know how it would go posting them... kinda bulky... and maybe illegal to send food??? I don't know...

kayne  18 Jul 2002
We are SO off topic...
TIM TAMS are the buscuit you want to take with you when you die. Sounds boring but the taste isn't... they are two chocolate buscuits with thick chocolate icing in the middle and all covered in chocolate. MMmmmm... :P:P:P:P There are many different flavours but the originals are the best! :D

catlin  18 Jul 2002
Oh, yes, such a party would be cool (PS: you don't have to bring Lederhosen with you, I don't live in Bavaria, ppl would laught themselves silly when they'd see someone in Krachlederne) :D :D :D

Starfish  18 Jul 2002
Ooohhhh... The Tim Tams sound wonderful. No such comparable biscuit here. I guess I'll just have to stay true to my Oreos. ;)

and you can't even wear them everywhere in Bavaria... only in the South. South Bavarians are the Texans of Germany... hehe.

Rhiannon  18 Jul 2002
OK, OK defending movies again...

Niah and Sam, did either of you READ the "Lord of the Rings" before seeing the movie??? You should, you know. It was really a great movie if you'd read the books.

Ok, I'm coming to the Matrix party and I'm bringing Peaches and Cream pie! It's sort of like cheesecake... with peaches and cinnamon. MMMMMM, good!

Alright, I enjoyed both LOTR and the Matrix (I love Keanu Reeves); I made a point of re-reading LOTR book before I saw the movie and I think it helped me understand the movie better.

(As a sidenote, Rhi - I want your Peaches & Cream pie recipe!! PM me)

Let's see... what could I bring to the party? Oh! I make a wonderful vanilla toffee pie (chocolate cookie crumb crust, vanilla ice cream, vanilla pudding, whipping cream and heath candy bar pieces) - served frozen; yum!

:T3C Starfish

Kyrie Blue  18 Jul 2002
I loved the Matrix and Lord of the Rings....However, I'm thinking that perhaps Sam and Niah may have heard so much about the movies before seeing them that they expected too much. I could be wrong of course, I'm only talking from my experience with "Pulp Fiction"...all my friends talked and talked about how great it was and funny and everything, so when I finally saw it...I expected too much and wasn't that impressed.

Could that be it?

RedWood  18 Jul 2002

I had the same experience with The Sixth Sense, everybody was saying how good it was and how unexpected the ending was. I had already figured out about half-way through the film what the "secret" was, so the rest of it was boring...

Now, talk about films with a secret and an unexpected ending: The Crying Game! That one had a really unexpected twist in it, and some good acting as well!

Ok, what will I bring to the party... We have great chocolate over here, how about that??

U R probably right Kyrie. I apologize for coming off as bitchy. I do that sometimes. It's hard to convey tone of voice through typing (as we've all experienced here at one time or another ;) ) Thanks for calling me on my nastiness! LOL :*

Starfish... as soon as I find my recipe cards.....

R :)

LOL...Rhiannon, I didn't think you came off as "bitchy" at all. I understood your surprise because it sure surprised me that people didn't like it....which is pretty much the reaction I got from people after saying I didn't like 'Pulp Fiction'..LOL...that is why I thought of it. :)

Hey tarotlady :)

I wanted to know if you've seen "The Others" and if you liked it?

No doubt about it, for me personally, "Raising Arizona" and Crocodile Dundee" reeked.

RedWood  19 Jul 2002

I just watched (yet another) stinker of a movie last night: David Linche's Mullholand Drive. I know you were not supposed to *get it* and all... but the acting was so wooden, they never spoke over each other, kinda like a bad soapy, and the whole time I was watching it I couldn't help to think that the director just wanted to see a blonde and a brunette "Get it on"... oh dear... Scary thought after seeing this movie: Smiling Old People... you will know what I mean if you have suffered through this film...

No, I haven't. I hardly get to go to the cinema, so I don't get to watch films until they are on tv. So I'm usually about a year behind in films... :(

I saw "The Others" and thought it really good, not a top ten all time favorite, but definately worth seeing, my kids and I saw it in the theatre.
Love and Light,

I ended up watching another one yesterday that needs to be on this list: Kiss of the Dragon... I don't think I've ever seen such a load of CRAP!!

Jenny :)

Diana  21 Jul 2002
Oh god, Jenny, I'm sorry you saw this movie. It is is full of YUCK! I saw another film recently with even more yuck, called "Riders". I still do not know why I sat it out to the end.

Oh yes it is, not to mention the incredibly twisted view of French police! All good guys were either Chinese or American, all French were bad guys of the worst possible kind! I'm sorry I saw it too.

But the guy who wrote the screen play must be the sorriest excuse of a writer in the world, I'm sorry to say!

Jenny :)

WolfSpirit  21 Jul 2002
One of the most nauseating movies I've seen: La Grande Bouffe, about people trying to eat themselves to death. It's supposed to be artistic and cult or whatever, maybe I'm just not intellectual enough ;)
About Lord o/t Rings: it provides beautiful images to the book. People I know who read the book also like the movie, it adds an extra.

divinerguy  21 Jul 2002
I also nominate Boxing Helena.
