who probably won't mind a push.
Those of you who're interested should take a look at www.stormwolf.com
and read the "novelette" on a character called Merlin Bloodstone, then come back and tell me what you think.
Michael Stackpole is one of my favourit authors in this genre, and the guy could use a push if people got interested in this new character he's writing about.

Merlin Bloodstone is an engaging character. The writing itself was entertaining and kept my interest. I don't particularly like mystery novels; the occultish/gothic-punkish aspects to this story made it appealing.

I really enjoyed the novelette! :) I wish he had books with this character in it. And I love how he used the Halloween Tarot in his story.

but as you've seen on his site, he's known (and sells well) as a fantasy and scifi author ... which seems to convince publishers that he won't sell enough outside of his known genre.
I wonder if good reviews on this site could get them to change their narrow minds.

Good reviews- no. Fantastic booksales- yes. Authors who build up a big enough name for themselves that people will buy any book they write are the first folks to get to write across the genres.
In addition, he should build up a detective following by publishing in the better mystery mags, etc., first and then hit the book publishers.
