Besides tarot cards, what else do you spend you $$$ on?

Besides buying tarot cards, books, totes, etc. the next thing I spend the most on is my beanie collection. I have over 150 different bears and have made trades with people from different countries to get some of them. I have been collecting them since 1998 and love my collection. So, if anyone here wants to trade beanies instead of tarot cards let me know.....hehehe.

wavebreaker  26 Aug 2002
Sorry, Momof3girls, I've got no beanies for you... ;)

Apart from tarot decks, I spend a lot of money on books. Not just on tarot ;), but also novels and books about sharks and marine life in general.
But most of my money I spend on travelling and scuba diving. My ideal holiday is visiting another country and do a bit of scuba diving there as well and I try to do this at least once a year.

RedWood  26 Aug 2002
Besides tarot...i go to garage sales and buy craft things...Then we just save our money to move!!

jema  26 Aug 2002
books for me too. i love books and have quite a library at home. but messy, no order at all since i lack bookshelfs for all of them.

now this week i will be getting a brand new DVD player (my first) so i can see myself spending some money on movies in the future.
(i love old classics and musicals)

as for collections - i do collect snowglobes but those i almost always are given as gifts so i don't buy them myself:)
it is more fun that way too - each globe is a precious memory of a person.

Bings  26 Aug 2002
Besides tarot I spend money on material or yarn. I love to sew and crochet.

Faerie Lin  26 Aug 2002
Well I just recently got a new obsession. Vintage sewing machines. I only have 2 so far, but I aquired them pretty quick, one right after the other. One is a beautiful singer model 66 with the redeye design in great condition, it was made in 1922. It sews very nicely. The other one is an American Home brand, that I am still trying to find info on. So now I spend money on fabric and craft supplies and I also keep an eye out for more vintage sewing machines.

catlin  26 Aug 2002
Tarot, books, The Craft, Pagan jewellry.

Sullanciri2002  26 Aug 2002
"books" definitely come in high, but they're certainly not all about tarot and spirituality (some lighter stuff comes in handy, and sometimes "spits" out a new take on tarot from a fictional point of view)
I collect dragons from the ENchantica-series, so that gobbles up a part of the cashflow ... and probably spend way too much money on silly little gifts for my wife and kids

Liliana  26 Aug 2002
Probably the second greatest spender of my money, oh wait what i was going to say is wrong, its FOOD

My husband and I love to eat out and try exotic things, or at least as exotic as we can get here in central pennsylvania. The most unique thing on the menu is always what i order. Its and obsession.

Then, what I was going to say, is Playstion I and !! games, especially RPG's

Then, I suppose, would be books of the Religious variety or the Roleplaying game variety

:THP

Strega  26 Aug 2002
BOOKS! BOOKS! BOOKS! :D

I have hundreds on them... literally. :)

And clothing I guess... but that's a necessity. :P

Laurel  26 Aug 2002
Books. Mostly on esoteric topics.

Movies! We like to go to a weekend matinee every weekend and probably get in about 60 movies a year.

Food. Between going out and cooking yummy meals, food is a big part of our budget here.

Ebay. Ebay is very bad. Never ever go there. If you go there, never start randomly surfing the site. I'm as addicted to Ebay as I'm addicted to AT, and buy some of the oddest stuff.

Laurel

Lightlike  26 Aug 2002
Hey, I'm noticing a pattern here: books, books, and more books.

Well for me I spend my money on books and video games and since tarot cards are typically catergorized as books... well I'm covered lol.

Poetlove  26 Aug 2002
I spend money on the Trading card game Magic:The Gathering, I just now started playing the Harry Potter Trading Card Game. I love legos, and art stuff..... But I have 2 boys and a "wife" to get stuff for too.

I have a truck that I purchase things for. New transmission at the moment.

Computer stuff.... games, programs, and I hope soon to buy a macintosh. I am currently (Well on Sept 3 rd) a student of Graphic Design. So, I am going to be able to fine tune my web design thurst.

Other then bills... that is pretty much it.

WolfSpirit  26 Aug 2002
Music; mostly by Rory Gallagher, a very talented Irish singer/songwriter who played blues and rock, now dead but he left behind a great collection of live recordings that's traded among fans and a great collection distributed by the record companies. So I also would like the equipment to download bootlegs from the net and burn them on a cd;
and then I want all the stuff by stevie ray vaughn, john lee hooker, eric clapton, neil young, ten thousand others I can't think of right now...

Bing:
I also love to crochet :D I bought lots of yarn on sales to knit sweaters but I don't have the patience for that anymore. Now I use it to crochet bags for all my decks so I guess this is saving me money now.

Jenny-Li  26 Aug 2002
Like others, I spend my money on books, all kinds of books, I love books - they make such a nice atmosphere, even when just sitting in the bookshelf...

(I'm not saying I buy books just to keep'em on a shelf, I mean I enjoy them even when they are just there...!

Jenny - bookoholic too!

Kaz  26 Aug 2002
uh, most money goes to paying bills.
i guess i spend the rest on books mostly, and tools when i need them.

kaz

jade  26 Aug 2002
food, gardening things....like plants, etc., and then kids stuff.....clothing, shoes, toys etc.

ahhh, the power of cheese.

love
jade

Violet Gargoyle  26 Aug 2002
Books- Usually either Faerie tale or Folklore related but I like the creepy horror stories as well (not gorey, just creepy).

And Music. I love getting new music. and usually end up with a new cd (or copy a friends) every week. Heck I even like designing the jewel case and CD art for the custom cds.

the hermit  26 Aug 2002
Like Erasmus, I spend most of my money on books. If there is anything leftover, I buy food.

Marion  26 Aug 2002
Movies..... I love going to the movies. Plus I rent DVDs and sometimes buy them.
I used to buy books, now I hardly ever do and have given away most of what I had. The library in River John is mostly stocked with my books, because I was serious collector. Yard sales, gifts to friends, gone, gone, gone. Almost, still have a few dozen of the pesky things. Including (surprise) tarot books.

Phoenix  26 Aug 2002
Art supplies. I can easily spend hours in Curry's Art Store in Toronto. I figured that I spent $500 this summer alone between art classes, and supplies.

Take that all you book conformists!!! LOL!

Gerbear  26 Aug 2002
My book collection just passed 5,000 volumes, so I guess that makes it my library. Otherwise I chase down Pez dispensers, and old fountain pens. Then theres my dormant stamp collection. If any money is left over I think about food. :)

cjtarot  26 Aug 2002
Hi all.

What a toss up...

I love to sew..just fininshed a "Red, White and Blue" doll..rag doll with a red dress and a blue apron w/ silver stars...

BUT, I love books...bn.com ROCKS...buy 2 books no shipping and they support us.

I also love antique sewing machines, but...Maybe someday I can start that collection..

Blessings,

Cj

Ladyhawke  26 Aug 2002
Like nearly everyone else, I spend a lot of money on books. And I get a bunch of books free from work too (hooray for working for a newspaper....review copies!!). A lot of my cash goes on crafty stuff too. I'm an avid cross-stitcher and have recently learned how to crochet. Hey, WolfSpirit, wanna share the pattern for those tarot bags? ;)

this is almost embarrassing! LOL okay, here goes:
toys and necessities for the cats and dog
anything w/ cats on it
****momof3girls!!****i collect beanie bears, too! i've had to slow down recently and focus on my tarot collect instead. no clue to how many i have. started in '98, too. ;)
********poetlove*****i just started a graphic design program. which means i spend a lot of money on tuition, fees, and books.
****phoenix****like you i spend lots on arts supplies and classes.
clothing--i love to mix and match clothes for different occasions and moods. clothing is just another means of artistic expression to me.
science fiction and fantasy novels. books on spirituality.
computer and photographic equipment and tools.
what else? hhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm...................
oh, yeah! the bills and food!

Starfish  26 Aug 2002
Books - definitely!

:TJUDG Starfish

kayne  27 Aug 2002
*Hey Big Spender!*

I spend way to much money on myself - the bonus of being single I guess...

CD's, DVD's, movies, wine, clothes, recently a digital camera... nothing like shopping therapy to make you feel good! I hate having to waste my money on mundain things like electric bills, insurance and groceries. :P

VGimlet  27 Aug 2002
I buy books, which is bad because I work at the library, but I love them. I read almost everything, but I especially love science fiction and fantasy. Clothes, because I have to dress up a bit for work. Food; we eat out a lot because our idea of what's delicious is MILES apart.
Ken buys boy toys. The guy at our VideoOnly store (which sells all manner of TV's, VCR's, etc.) knows him by name. And then there is the money vacuum he calls the "Hot Rod"...

Kiama  27 Aug 2002
This one's a bit weird... Y'see, when Iam not spending my money on Tarot decks I spend it on...

SEXY KNICKERS! he he...

Over here in th eUK< you can buy some really cool undie,s, like ones with sentences or words on them in sequins, and furry ones, and ones with long pink tassels, and ones with shiny holographic stuff, and nes with beads and patterns.... They're great! Me and one of my best frieds love going ut on a Saturyda for a spot of 'Sexy Knicker Shopping'... e he...

Kiama *Who ha just revealed how silly she really is*

kayne  27 Aug 2002
LOL Kiama! I now see you in a whole new light... You could combine your spending habbits: Have you got a pair of knickers to go with each of the major arcana?

Phoenix: My best friend used to work there!! How long have you been going there..? She worked there for about a year, up until July 2001 when she got married and moved to Ottawa (and ended up working in another art store, but she didn't like that one as much). Her name's Jen and she has red hair if that rings any bells.

As for where MY money goes, well, up until recently it went on TRAVEL! I love living in London and being able to take relatively cheap trips to the continent... we used to go someplace for the weekend at least once a month. aaaaaah... t'was the life. Need to get my hubby working again so we can pick it up again!

Now all my money goes on groceries. blah.

Liliana  27 Aug 2002
I want the Kiama and friends wearing sexy knickers deck!

Trust me we probably have worse ones in america, especially since this new low rise jean fiasco where everyone can actualy see them. I saw a pair of marabout feather ones online once.

Some of my favourites inclde a pair of faux-leapord skin furry ones, which feel soooo cool, and some pink ones with loads of hearts on, with really really long tassles that look like the ribbons from a Barbie bike handle bars hanging off them... Oh, and then there's the ones with 'Kiss', 'Gorgeous', an 'I LOVE Me' written on them... And the pink and black tiger stripe ones... And the... And the... }) Needless to say, this is one collection of mine that my boyfriend enjoys aswell!

Books. Art. Clothes.

Clothes for the kids.

More books.

Gardening things - plants, books on landscape design, etc.

Phone bills from talking to my mom & sister. :)

Alissa  27 Aug 2002
Henna henna henna! As a henna artist, I have a henna addiction that's spooky! I love mixing my own from powder, so I buy it by the kilo.

yummmmm

Actually I'v never been in their store in Toronto. I order online, and go to their store in Barrie, ON. Her leaving was long before I got into art though.

debins  27 Aug 2002
Me too! Curry's Art Supply Store and Loomis & Toles. Also, megabookstores: Chapters and Indigo, and Amazon.com for things not in stock at the first two.
I LOVE books, especially metaphysical books.

Kath  27 Aug 2002
I'm another book addict. I love books. But lately I have been going through a real lipstick phase. I'm a makeup junkie at the best of times, but it's starting to get out hand!

I love estate jewellery too, so when my tax return arrives, I'm going shopping! :)

Cheers

Jeanette  28 Aug 2002
My main addiction is machine embroidery supplies! I have a home embroidery machine; and, as if that wasn't expensive enough, you have to buy the designs to embroider, thread, stabilizers, etc. Plus, of course, garments/towels/anything that doesn't move gets a design on it!!! Even "sexy knickers" if you want!!! Anything you can get to fit into the machine's hoop. It's so much fun. I spend a lot of money on crafts, too. I'm fortunate enough that my money from my part-time job is just for fun stuff. I also like to indulge my teenage son when I can, while trying to teach him the value of money, how far it goes and how to save for something and not give in to impulse buying. I buy books, too, but I do supplement my collection from the library where I work.

divinerguy  28 Aug 2002
I spend my money on cheap liquor, fast women, unfiltered cigarettes and loud motorcycles.

.... Well, maybe not exactly.

Probably closer to cafe mocha, my wife (who isn't as fast as she used to be), its been several years since I smoked, and loud motorcycles frighten me.

Liliana  28 Aug 2002
put that machine to work Jeanette, make some tarot bags with fancy patterns to sell on ebay

Ill buy one :)

You mean there are things to buy other than Tarot decks? ~scratches head~ ... hmmmm ...

No seriously ... besides spending money on tarot, books are my other great expenditure. Mainly fantasy and dark fantasy novels. And yes I have hunted OOP books just as I have OOP decks *LOL*.

DarkElectric  28 Aug 2002
It's beginning to sound suspiciously like the wonderbra thread...

Books, crystals, sheets of coloured glass to create the windows with, gas and insurance (love my car...love my car!!!) bills, and food. I have no problem with wearing jeans and tee shirts all the time!

Pollux  29 Aug 2002
DarkElectric: I saw you are growing more interested in the TSC, aren't you... }) *LOL*

Well, it is only from last January, and not even often, that my money may well go on decks. In 8 months i got 12 decks (3 got today! :D) and I am waiting for some more, but I did not buy them all (everyone is jeaolus here, I fear... })). 4 were gifts.

My money USED TO go on videogames, mostly PSX, but also PC, and generally RPGs (LOVE THEM!!! I wish i could play them for real... :(). And after VG, Japanese comics - MANGAs :D - of which I am still soooooooooooooo foind, but it is ages I haven't gone to the comic shops, and I hjave so much catching up to do, ARGH!!! Then... what else? Books, of course, lately more Wicca/Paganism ones, and CDs (many many many less than I wish for), and... DUH? Don't know...
You see, I a quite average. All Teen-but-a-bit-Grown-up stuff.
Being average is the aim of this life for me. Step by step :P *LOL*

I forgot to add Animes - even though I have few COS THEY ARE EXPENSIVE!!! and stuff like candles, incenses, stones...
And I also forgot movies (even though, as for the things before, I USED TO, Uni washed away all my personality... :P) and CHINESE: my sister is a freaking addict, and I often HAVE to accompany her, sicne it is not very popular among her friends.

Clothes are something my parents pay! :D
But I don't take advantage of in, and don't generally go for trendy expensive stuff. First off: comfy and respectable. Then, stylish but good quality and price.
There's no point in going for mainstream ultra-expensive clothes. Especially in Naples, were you can find even better imitations in the marketplaces! D&G, Armani, Moschino... And they are often even better quality, and impossible to spot as fakes... ;)

napaea  29 Aug 2002
hmmmm...
* books for me too. i love virtually all books; children's, mystery, sci-fi, used, antiqueish. i just pick up a copy of Jane Eyre, 1940 issue, illustrated with wood carvings, gorgeous cover for $6.00!!

* movies. love to rent (we get too mad at the people in the theatre who are eating raisenettes and make so much noise when the raisins rattle in the box!!)

* comics. love 'em

* toys and action figures. hee hee
we have Batman, Poison Ivy, X-men, Spawn, Star Wars.
hmmmm, i'm 33 and only now living my childhood! oh well, making up for being such a responsible kid!!! ;)

I spend whatever excess money there is on books. I'm always in the middle of some type book, whether it is mysteries of the unknown type books, ADC books, or romances, sometimes horror.
I used to spend a fortune on music, now I spend a fortune on cd rw.
Other weaknesses:
Eating out at ethnic restraunts.
Kiama, you can have your knickers, I love bras, lol
Concert tickets!
I used to spend a fortune in film, now I have a digital camera :)

cyan  14 Sep 2002
food. we live in an area where we can get great food and my grocery bill would stun many people. and suppliments. i'm a big believer in suppliments. lots of books. SO says he is not building another book case! dog stuff, toys etc. clothes and.........ok, ok foo foo stuff. you know, creams, and potions, and makeup and hair stuff. And i'm not ashamed.
i do not own a wonderbra, tho. i could probably use one but i hear they are pretty uncomfortable.

Sulis  15 Sep 2002
Can`t believe I haven`t replied to this earlier.
I spend my money on books and that`s about it really, books and stuff for the kids. I have a serious book addiction, my husband has an addiction to vinyl (as in records), and VW camper van bits and pieces. Thought I`d better include him as it`s `our` money really.

Lots of books, and some juggling props. Really nice juggling balls run from about $5 to $50 per ball, and you have to get at least three to juggle, but I do four and am just getting into five, so it kind of adds up. Average is $7-$10 per ball. I also dance poi (similar to boleadores -- New Zealanders know what I mean) and I want a portable tightwire (about three feet up) when I find money and a space.

Just to be different....books, books, books...oh, and eating out at Chinese restaurants, and saving for my next overseas holiday!

pentunen  21 Sep 2002
Just like almost everyone else, I spend my $ on books :)
I also spend on stuffed toys, Magic the Gathering cards, presents for my friends, jewellery, and random little pagan-ish things like crystals, pouches, and incense.
O'course, a lot of those are having to move down a rung or two on the priorities ladder to make way for my new obession with Tarot cards ;)

ladycj  30 Sep 2002
Oh Golly, is there enough room to put everything? Well the top three are romance novels, crafting supplies (the art kind and the wicca kind, he,he,he), and Food.

Blessings.
