I went to my sisters house for dinner last night and was really enjoying the Thai Noodles she had made when my thoat started feeling very strange. I really better check the packaging they came from - yep - peanuts. I rushed home and got antihistamine in a hurry and after much discomfort (and having the day off work today) I am nearly over it...:)
My sister feels *terrible* (she probably should have known... LOL:P)
I swear, they sneak those little bullets of discomfort in everywhere! And I am usually so careful, always checking the ingrediants before stuffing my face... which is a hassle but neccessary...
Anyone else allergic to peanuts?

Kayne! I am glad to hear that you are alright. I've seen a severe peanut allergy reaction and is frightening. :( I think your sister owes you a deck }).
I personally don't have that allergy, but a couple of my younger daughter's friends have it. There are special tables in the elementary school lunch area that are peanut-free zones.

Yes, I do, although my allergy (luckily) isn't that bad, I just get a bit of discomfort, but that's enough to put me off eating them... I'm also allergic to a lot of fruits, such as apples, peaches, cherries, etc. Except when they are cooked: I can eat apple sauce or apple pie, but no raw apples.

When I was younger I had a bit trouble with hazelnuts but this is gone now. Instead, I am allergic to antibiotics but I only found out last year when I was in hospital and nearly passed away there.

Kayne - I sympathize with you. I always have to ask at restaurants if there are any peanuts/peanut oil in dishes. Its such a hassle!!
My peanut allergy didn't begin until I turned 25. Up to that point I could any kind of nut. I feel the reaction right away on my tongue and lips and that's my sign to get the antihistamine and drink lots of cold water.
The other day I had a similar reation to a raw peach! I'm not sure if it was the fruit itself or maybe those nasty preservative waxes that are put on them. I should buy organic.
an allergy is nuttin' to laugh at!

Could be the peach itself though, I'm allergic to most fruits that have stones in them, including peaches. Hopefully for you it is the preservative wax, so you can still enjoy organic peaches! :)

Oh, Kayne!
I'm so glad you're alright. I don't have any food allergies, but I have friends who do. It seems peanut allergy is one of the more common (and potentially life threatning)ones out there. I'm always really careful if I'm making something for public presentation (some groups I'm in do a lot of pot luck) to make a list of all the stuff I use to make it. At least this gives the allergy prone the opportunity to avoid any potential disaster.

Glad it went OK with you Kayne, I know people who are allergic to nuts and it's really scary how much disaster and/or nasty symptoms can come from those tiny buggers...!
I am blessed with having no allergies at all, but to be honest, I think I'm getting quite lonely in being so lucky. So many people I know discover allergies to this and that, not to mention the kids - here it's something like every 3rd or 4th kid who is allergic to something!

kayne,
I am so sorry to hear about your allergy, My oldest daughter is allergic to peanuts...it's not fun..EVERYTHING has to be checked..
PLEASE BE VERRRY CAREFUL, this allergy is horrible, at least it is for Chris, every time she had something with peanut oil, anything peanut..even the old "manufactured in a plant that processes peanunts" stuff, the reaction got worse and worse..hives, to asthma, then swelling to the point of hard to breath...
I would suggest STRONGLY that you talk to your doctor about an EPIPEN....
I wish you well and pray your's is a mild case of allergy and never gets worse.
blessings

Yes, be very VERY careful!! I'm not allergic to peanuts myself, but many of my friends are. When we get together we find it nearly impossible to find a place to eat out. I can eat places they can't, and vice versa (have a horrible iodine allergy).

Thanks all so much for your concern! I am glad I am not the only one...
I think my allergy is getting worse because this reaction was definately the worst I have ever had.
My sister was so applogetic and she bought me a big bunch of red Gladdies to say sorry... wait till mum finds out! })
Fortunately food that says, "may contain traces of nuts" are ok for me (so M&M's can not be missed!!!).
I am allergic to many fruits too but not bad enough that it stops me eating them... (too delish). And strangely I am also not allergic to them when they are cooked. That's not the case with peanuts though... :(

when you cook fruit it breaks down some of the antigens that you are allergic too i guess.....so that's a benefit.
i know that with peanut allergies, the more you eat it, the worse it gets until it kills you......you really need to be careful.
my hubby is allergic to walnuts but he eats them occassionally in ice cream etc. i always give him heck cause he's just making his reactions worse everytime. :(
i'm glad you are okay kayne,
love
