Got a *Wonderful* (Excuse the sarcasm) wake-up call this morning... Mail, with ba news. (IMO, this is th eworst way to start the day! Maybe the mail comapn should segregate bad mail wih god mail, and sendgood mail firstthing in th emornng, and bad mail towards lunchtime.)
It was Cardiff Uni' Residences Offices. 'Dear Miss Huggens. Thankyou for completing the application for accomodation in Cardiff University. However, all the Couples and Family accomodation has already been allocated. Our Residences Office can issue you with a list of Private Sector accomodation.'
It turns out that people from overseasare given priority when it come sto accomodation. Not that I don't like people from overseas (Half my friends live in a differnt country to me!) but surely the government should be ooking after it's own citizens first? Oh well, should've known the answer to that years ago. :(
So, they've got a list of Private Sector accomodation avialable... Well, could they not send it with the letter? Nope, that would be too easy. I have to write to them and get one, which means another 3-4 day wait. And Term starts 23rd September! I have 3 weeks in which to find a place to stay and get everything organised for it. Sorry. less than 3 weeks by the time I've sent off for the list, recieved it, and written off applying for accomodation.
And what happens when my application for that private sector housing doesn't work? I'll have maybe a week and a half 2 weeks at the most in which to try again... I wouldn't mind, but cuz we're around 5 hours drive away from the sodding place, we can't even get to the houses to look at them! How will I know if there's damp, or what they've got in them furniture wise?
On the plus side, it is most probable that I'll be able to have internet access all day, every day!
Surprises are wonderful yes, but not when its as important as this. Why couldn't they get it done sooner, esp. if its to say that they can't fit me in... Now, call me a borig straight-laced old stick in th emud, but I don't relish th eidea of living on a knife edge, counting down the days in which I have to find a plac to live...
Grrrrrrrrrrr

And now the cat hates me, cuz I accidentally trod on her tail... :(

Couldn't you just go to Cardiff town and look for a house to rent yourself? Look on university noticeboards, in the newspaper, or go to a Student Flatting agency. At the start of term-time there's bound to be plenty of flats available for students to rent!
If you went to Cardiff and stayed in a youth hostel I bet you could find a place to live within a couple of days, and then you could get all your stuff sent up to you.
(Excuse me if I'm misunderstanding the way that university housing works in the UK, but that's what I'd do here in NZ! :))

If worst comes to the worst that is what I will have to do, although it would be tricky... My byfriend's supposed to be moving up there with me, and we have alot of stuff to bring with us. I'd rather start the term with definite accomodation too, and get moved in properly before I even think about starting to study!

Then perhaps get hold of a newspaper from Cardiff and make some toll calls to landlords? If you're travelling by car, you could book appointments to see round several flats on the afternoon you arrive in Cardiff, and pick the one you like best - if all went well you'd be in your very own flat by that evening!
Good luck with the flat hunting - it might seem like a hassel now, but moving out of home into your own flat is an awesome experience. You'll have a blast!

I seem to remember a chap who had a lovely flat under some stairs...
It would be inexpensive...
