I am very fascinated by certain symbols - I collect them if I can, I need them, I want them!
So far it's orbs, fountains, spirals, and the multi-faceted star shape - the same as the one on the RW Star card. Also, South American pyramids, but I have yet to collect one. I am drawn to the moon too.
(This subject brings to mind the Richard Dreyfus character in the movie Close Encounters going nuts over the Devil's Tower shape.)
So- do you ever become obssessed by a shape or symbol?

For me it's stars (go figure, huh?), hearts, crescent moons, clovers (and no, I'm not refering to Lucky Charms!), spirals and columns (Greek).

Holed stones too. I have one which I always wear and have done for the last 10 years, It`s one of those things which I just feel naked without. Spirals too, I love spirals.
If you`re ever in the UK Jema Brighton Beach is just covered in holed / hag stones - gorgeous.

Well its funny recently I have been thinking how much I love the auryn, a symbol invented for the movie The Neverending Story, but does have a ton of real world metaphysical value in it. Its 2 snakes, one gold one silver, entwined biting each others tail.
But it also has an infinity symbol in it, Ill try to attach a pic.

There are 3 things that I really got nuts for, and they are the 8-ball, yin and yang, and the other is an animal. I love dragons. I have some figures of them, and every time I see a shirt with one on it, I really want it
the 8-ball reminds me of my brother...... Handed over to the God/Gods/ or Goddesses who came and took him when he was 11. I had to start new when he died.
Yin and Yang, because they are the balance of life. Sun, Moon, light, dark, good, evil, earth, sky. It is not only one sided, it has both surrounding it.
Dragons, because I think they are my animal, my protector. There is nothing more then looking into the figure and transforming myself to past times, not to slay them, but to befriend them.

I'm a triangle girl myself, have been for many many years. It fascinates me, and just thinking on it makes me all tingly inside. I used to sign my papers with one, tho I stopped cause it just... looked like nonsense really. Perhaps I'll start that again. :)
Also, like many above, I'm partial to moons (particularly crescent) and stars. I'm also fascinated by bottles (w/ stoppers and corks) tho I dunno if that counts as a symbol. lol.
This is a fun thread. I liked the imagery of some of your jewelry that I got.

I am personally fascinated by the spiral, or helix formation (DNA I find particularly beautiful) And maybe I'm a bit ridiculous here, but I love travel symbols, you know, the ones that you see on signs in other countries? Symbols are the language which transcend the spoken word. Therefore I can be in BeJing or Belgium, and will be able to find a phone, food, or a WC. And so will everyone else, no matter where they're from. Music and symbols are the universal language.

I don't have a current fascination, but in the past, I have been drawn to unicorns, the sun/moon/star thing, celtic knots, greek keys...there are probably several I have forgotten.

Celtic artwork. Especially renditions of animals that incorporate knotwork.
I've included an example of two dragons :D.

Liliana: I LOVE that symbol!!! What a great tattoo it would make!
I tend to go through phases of liking different symbols. I loved fish and fish shapes for a long time and drew them on everything...
Right now I love snake symbols including the Ouroborus (snake bighting it's tail), the Caduceus (two snakes entwined around a rod or sword) and the Aboriginal dreaming/rainbow snake.
I also really like stars with seven sharp points and the southern cross... :)

jema,
what are you referring to? the stones that come in different sizes and colours at the metaphysical shop? that you can string on a cord (very large hole) and wear? they look like a little donut.
or
the kind that you make a necklace out of...........small pieces of stones with little tiny holes drilled in them to string something no bigger than fishing line thru?

Mandalas fascinate me. I also love stars, the more points the better. The hebrew alphabet is also a series of symbols I'm enraptured with, and alchemical symbols.

hi jade, no i mean naturally holed stones.
that is flat beach stones that tiny grains of sand has drilled a hole in during centuries of time.
they can look a bit like those "donuts" you mention though most of the time the hole is not really in the center like that.
they are found on the beach where you have lots of softer sandstone. here up in the north of sweden where i live we have mainly hard granite and therefore natural holed stones are rare.

the stones with natural holes in them, like jema is speaking of, are great for scrying. try looking at a candle flame through one.
currently, i'm fascinated with the rune symbols, and am seeing them everywhere. particularly gebo/gifu, which looks like an X.

My favourite symbol would have to be the Yin/Yang. Mainly because it represents so much of the natural world, light, dark, good, bad etc. a balance.

!!!WOW!!!
That is so cool!
Yes I have drawn this over and over since I can remember. At one time in grade school, we covered our books with paper bags turned reverse, and then decorated them with pen and ink and all my books had this symbol!
I never knew what it was...
and yes it is never ending.
Wow, I do feel special now!
IS there a link that goes to the information on this sign?
I've searched the only one's I've come across and this is the first time I knew for sure that it was something other than a girl thing...(I guess it is a girl thing! hee hee)
Is there any particular meaning connected with this?
I have so much to learn/remember...
[i also use to draw a cursive captial l, connected and on going...
does this have any meaning?] if not that's ok too, cause this one was my main concern, and even though I had no idea what I've always known it meant something!
*wow* this is so neat!*
(now, take a deep breath)
How is this "triskele" pronounced?
tris-kele
tri-ske-le
*tell me before I burst to say it properly!*
What language?
Any particular Goddess?
oh so many quest~ions...

Jade, all I know is I have drawn this over and over and that I haven't got to look to see if it's online with itself, it just is and always has been...
Alot of times it was as though my hands had their own mind, sometimes even doing it with out thinking about it. And seems like at the time I may have been in a sort of etherial mood or mind set. Or had a claming effect on me. (something) Maybe this is where I should pick it up again and see if it leads me farther.
And I'm still looking for that song/chant that has deosil and whiddershins in it.
Cause I know I have heard some thing some where if only in a dream/flash.
I am beginning to realise that not everything I thought that was a dream, was a dream, but some sort of "flash".
JUst never recognized the difference as a child.

Floracove, I've always drawn this, too! But I didn't mention it, because it is always just a doodle. I'll go over & over & over the outline several times, usually while I am one the phone or in a really boring meeting (which happens all too frequently where I work!)

I always thought of it as a doodle, a flower perhaps...closest thing I could think of would be a violet...(?)
But deep down inside I always knew it was "something special"
It's pretty cool huh? To find that something you've always done was really something special, just had no idea what it was or how to find out!
And it just naturally flows out of you doesn't it?
And I always started from the middle, going up left of the (?)petal, then along the bottom to the right petal and then over thru to the bottom petal and theres a odd shaped triangle in the middle of it...
Is that how you do it?
This is so exciting! I'm going to search for info now that I have a Given name for it!
Be back in a bit "triskele sister"!

This is so exciting! I'm going to search for info now that I have a Given name for it! Well, now that you've described it, I can't do it, because I'm thinking about it [grrrrr]. All I ended up with was the infinity symbol. [double grrrr] Hey, I was just reading some posts in the thread "Show off your avatars" and Kiama's avatar has a triskele in it! (see last page of thread)

Yes. The shape of tacos has always been on my mind. This warm crescent of masticating delight, topped with sensuous waves of guacamole permeates my very existence.
Hail to the almighty taco, prescion of the ages, metalithic icon to the ontogeny of mankind. The harbinger of phylogeny, from my metatarsals to my upper epthelial dermis.
Avoid the fallacious, check the conundrum at the door. I'm a taco man, baby.
Yes, I'd say the taco symbol is on my mind.
