I expect most ladie hee n the forum will have experience CRAVINGS... I don't know what auses these cravings, although pregnancy is a major cause of course, (But I'm NOT pregnant!) and we also get them when we're not pregnant.
The nature f a cravingis such that we HAVE to have what it is we want THER and THEN, and we send our significant others trudging mile in the rain if needs be, to buy this craved food from the nearest shop, eve if it is 2am.
I am sitting here eating a prawn cocktail, garlic bread, Brie, and Glacé cherries (Not all together obviously!) and this sees like a pretty weird combination of craving...
Now, I would love to know what weird things you've craved before, and what lengths you've gone to in order to get your hands on the craved food...
Me, I've cavd Maltesers, Chunky Kit Kats, Blue Stilton, prawns, MacDonalds, dog biscuits, glace cheries, strawberry jam, sirloin steak, and Kinder Eggs.
Please let me knw I'm not alone here!
Kiama
And why on Earth o we never crave anything HEALTHY?????!!!!!

I'm sitting here staring at the words dog biscuits.
I've had many cravings, more than I could ever list. But never combinations of things, not even when I was pregnant. Then also I have cravings where I don't know exactly what I'm craving... I hate when that happens...
I am still staring at the words dog biscuits... ok I'm gonna ask this, how do they taste?

My cravings usually have to do with chocolate. Sometimes crisps or ice cream or wine gums, but usually chocolate.
I try not to buy any of these things and the good thing is that I'm usually too lazy to go out and get something when I do have a craving. But sometimes I get the craving while I'm in the supermarket and then I have a big problem... ;)
Hm, I think I still have some chocolate dessert in the fridge....
*runs off to the fridge....*

Dog biscuits seem to come in all sizes and flavours.. I suppose some of them might be tasty, if a bit dry and hard *Marion ponders this for a second, then rejects all ideas of tasting*
Okay, the miscellaneous "I really want something but what?" problem. I hate that!
I frequently want toast, does that count?
Edited to add ju jubes

Marion, I can't believe you mentioned toast! My toaster is useless at the moment because it makes this burning smell whenever I use it (yes, I cleaned it out), which sets off the smoke alarm. So, of course, I am just craving toast! With peanut butter maybe...and I have this new Plum jam...ohhhh...this is going to be a long night!
I occasionally have a Big Mac craving as well, but luckily it usually happens when I'm in the car and can make a quick stop at the Drive-Thru!
Peace,
Melvis

Yes, also ate them as a kid. To me, they tasted like compressed cardboard with a tiny bit of beef flavor and salt.
I sometimes crave MEAT. Just a slab of grilled steak. (sorry vegetarians.)
Today's craving was pattipan squash - don't know if that is the common name, sort of a light green UFO shaped summer squash. I was sooo happy to find some in the store tonight, because they hardly ever have them!

hmmmm, I was still wondering about the dog biscuits and why people eat them... then I discover something else just totally weird...
My most common craving is chocolate, not very original, I guess every woman has it sometimes.
I hardly ever eat meat, but sometimes I just have to have salami, preferably on a roll with gherkins.
I don't know if it's my system telling me to eat something meaty or just my taste buds.
And I just have to have my daily dose of coffee on time.

The smaller doggie bisquits, bone shaped
(I was only 3- but got called Pebbles a lot...is that
a good excuse?) that come in at least three diff colors.
The crunch is so good (oops, gave myself away)
I mean..It WAS so good. Only problem- the wood chips
embedded inside the cute red green and brown bone shapes!
My main craving has been for mushrooms- all my life. Broiled w/butter..stuffed with anything at all is a total luxury. Could not eat 'em raw
Until I got past 20. Prefer the oriental style.
Anyone out there can eat twice their weight in ****ake m-rooms...and proud of it?

Honey, I just finished cooking some Mushroom Risotto.
And the plate is waiting for me on the table... I can see it form the PC desk... ;)
AND, today my uncle living the storey below went for Mushroom Hunting in a little village nearby. He's come back with loads of goodies, and wanted me to smell every little single element he had found... I am not really fond of that, too much like methan and gasses... But I just thought I would make your craving degenerate... ;) })

Actually, I think I remember reading once that you crave foods alot when you are lacking something in your system (like salt or protein) and your brain "remembers" the things that could provide the body with what it is lacking. SOmetimes you hear of vegatarians who just HAD to have some fish all of a sudden, because their body wanted the protein.....
In my case, when I was pregnant with my daughter, I thought that grape juice and burnt chicken were just a FABULOUS combo. Not just chicken- burnt chicken.
As far as the biscuts go- Milk Bone was more fun to eat as a kid than Dad's, whcih got too gravy-like for my taste. For me it was all about the crunch factor and sharing a snack with my dog buddies.

ooo... cravings.... For me it's usually anything that's out of season. Or anything that's out of reach. Right now a shot of tequila sounds good, but I know if I drove all the way to the liquor store and back to get some I wouldn't want it anymore. (A little less than an hour and a half to drive. Trust me.)
Sate also sounds really good. Anything with peanuts. Any sort of dairy product. Cheese... yum! Peanut and dairy products are not usually allowed in the house, so they sound good. *L*
When I was pregnant I wanted the expensive caramel swirl ice cream, Mountain Dew (which I normally can't stand), Sonic coney dogs or frito pies, almost anything from Taco Bell, pickles, and ranch dressing. Usually all at the same time. Sometimes the cravings got so bad when living in Montana I would skip out on pool league nights to drive to the next town and get Taco Bell. It made the other people on the team absolutely furious, but it didn't matter at the time.
Once my husband and I drove all over Butte trying to find Fla-Vor-Ice. Those are basically Kool-Aid in plastic tubes that you put in the freezer. It had to be Fla-Vor-Ice brand, though. Pop-Ice or store brand just would not do.

i guess i most often crave salty food. like chips n salsa, or pretzels. slurpees have been a downfall for me this summer.
and i'll frequently get a "chinese food" or "mexican food" craving.
and dog biscuits: ok, i never ate them as a kid. but i was working at a vet clinic earlier this year. we had these soft chewy dog treats that smelled sooooo good, like my cooking doesn't even smell that good! so some of the girls there dared me to eat one. yuck! i'd much rather try whatever all you others are talking about cause these things were horrible, and i only took a nibble on a dare! (boy i kid you not, they smelled delicious)
but then again, i baked cat cookies for my kitties a few weeks ago. those smelled fantastic. my cats ate like one cookie. they are still on my porch waiting for the squirrels to finish ''em off!

Yes it is true: studies have shown that lagre amounts
of this extraordinary vitamin cause amazingly
high intelligence and unusual pshchic powers...
when ingested in correct color and crunch
combinations as a growing child, it has been found that
vitamin Puppy Biscuits are often able to
induce powers of levitation and it is not unknown
for certain cases of possibly accidental overdose
to lead to the
uninhibited growth of furry ears and in rarest cases-
enormous and mulicolored wings have resulted from
the ingestion of this oddly unknown vitamin.
Who knows what further testing will prove?

Pollux~ you evil guy...no wonder I could not sleep last night.
My mushroom dectector must have been sending me a five star alarm...
tossed and turned and drooled on the pillow all night (fell
asleep just after posting...)
I'll have to settle for the pale boring ones at the local
store...in butter and a ton of garlic, with burgundy and
toss in the scallops as an after thought...
Scallops.....now there is a true and nearly
maddening craving for you.
This thread could be trouble.

Dog biscuits are the bomb!! I make my own and actually there isn't an ingredient that's not "human". Hmmm.... how about chicken breats baked in dog biscuit crumbs.... the secret ingredient everyone asks for at a dinner party! Yeah!!!
But really, I crave french fries with a chocolate shake once every 28 days or so. Its a salt-chocolate thing. Ever have french fries with gravy? OMG... too delish!
I also love to put raisinettes in a bag of hot, freshly-popped popcorn. Again, salt chocolate. Too evil!
Cravings for McDonald's happen in the middle of nowhere. There's that certain taste about it. Thanks be that the drive-thru here is open past midnight!
Okay, I want the gravy-french-fry thing NOW NOW NOW!!!!!
Happy Hankerings!

It never occured to me to try dog biscuits.

I hate Kim Chee, no offense lol but i its just, erg hehe
My mom used to eat dog biscuits and butter, i tried one once but hated the gravelly texture. DO NOT EAT THE GREY SQUARES I think they are charcoal flavored lol. My mom also used to eat certain baby foods, like dutch apple
Lets see when i was a kid one day i ate raw spinach dipped in peanut butter, pretty good really. When pregnant i ate an apple and butter sandwich, was rather good too :) When pregnant i craved salad and milk. Drank a gallon of milk at once at one point hehe.
Now I crave vanilla coke, for awhile it was mountain dew code red, oh and tiramasu :)

Right on Violet Gargoyle!!!!
The concept of mushroom buttered dog biscuits
(sounds like a very cool utterly top ten new rock band's
name is hidden in there somewhere)
is brilliant. I am stuck on the phrase "mushroom butter"
in a trance...can't quite find words...
never really had the good kind of "mushroom pate"... much less~
m-butter...and you have a real way w./words!
(stomach is screaming for food and it wants Pollux to make m-room Risotto...
or - even more mean...now he's harrassing me with descriptions of something called "trifolati" - god oh god oh my gods and all the goddesses...a pizza is
not gonna help me now~~~~)
I am going to take the liberty of starting the Violet Gargoyle thresd on "Mushroom Buttered Dog Biscuits" because ...I can't stop myself
and because I can't have the "trifolati" OR the m-room risotto...
(**pouts, sniffs the air hungrily...*** hangs head and slouches weakly
off to ...***)

No no no, I totally agree, chocolate and doritoes taste good together.
This one store at my old college in PA used to seel chocolate dipped doritoes and ruffles. Great for finals weeks.
It sounds strange but really, it works. Particularily if you can get the peanut butter taste in your mouth somewhere....peanut butter M&Ms plus ranch doritoes= yum.
