I was just curious to see the diversity of where everyone was from and if there are any Aeclectians near my own neck of the woods. I am from Maine, USA.

This is one of the things that I personally love about this forum.....is that people are here from all over the globe.
I myself am from the Netherland.......though having lived nearly half my life in Australia, having done all my schooling there and alot of 'growing up', I consider myself an Australian Dutchie, or should it be a Dutch Australian????? I don't really know, all I know is that these two places are my homes......seeing that my parents and grandparents live in Australia and myself (and my own family) and alot of relatives live here in the Netherlands :)
Mara......an Australian Dutchie / Dutch Australian :D

Still in CA. Wonderful American Aeclecticans, I don't think I am the only person from outside America that finds all the initials for American states completely confusing... You see I am from Perth, WA... which *here* stands for Western Australia, but for reasons I don't understand I believe that 'WA' is Washington in America - is this right???
So - I said it already but I am from Perth, Western Australia: "The Most Isolated Capital City in the World" :P
Mara: Most of my ancestors are Dutch and arrived in South Australia on some of the first ships apparently. I think that's where I get my blonde hair... :P

I was not taught the language. The grandfathers where from the U.S....the family spoke mostly english.
There are many dialects on the islands. There is a spanish influence to the main tounge, because of the Conquistidores. I can speak spanish, so I would be able to 'get by'...
and Kayne...so sorry..
born and raised in california, lived in pennsylvania when I was a babe, and went to oregon for a year to have my babe...now I'm back in the Redwoods of California, the Golden State..
WA is washinton...west coast..then we have washington...east coast, but that is washington D.C. which is District of Columbia

I was born in Anchorage, Alaska but raised in the small state of Delaware, which most people think is part of Pennsylvania. *lol* Now I'm living in Rhode Island. Hopefully in a couple of years I get to do my research for a year in Britain. Then maybe I'll get to say howdy to all you British Aeclecticans.
It's very interesting to see where everyone's been.

Grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. Left as soon as I could to get away from the racist nutcases and psychopaths.
Dad was Polish.
Mum was Swiss.
I grew up thankfully with a British passport (a gift from the British to my Dad after WWII.) I used to pretend I lived in England when I was a kid, so I could escape from the apartheid environment, at least in my head.
I lived for a while in the South of France and Northern Nigeria. But Switzerland is my home now.

I'm born and raised in Kansas. Very exciting place (*NOT!*). OK, it's not that bad....it's fun when the tornadoes come around! :) I'm just trying to figure out how I've got such a yearning to live by the ocean if I've been landlocked all my life (aside from a few vacations to Florida and one to Hawaii).

I live in Canada now. Grew up in Michigan, not far from where Starfish lives now. Spent more then a few times in Australia. Almost got "sold" to a Cook Island chief who wanted me as his 7th wife and offered my father 18 cows for my hand in marriage. Dear dad & I had just had an argument, so he actually thought about it. My step-mom's wiser ways prevailed and I was returned to the US. Stilll whenever he got mad at me, he'd glare at me and say "I could have had 18 cows". This usually broke the tension.....

i am born in sweden and live in sweden and will probably die here too one day.
or to be more precise - at least jenny-li will understand it.
i was born in västmanland in a small but old town named Sala, then i moved up here to Skellefteå when i was 9. skellefteå is rather far up north in sweden, by the east coast too. so i have the botnic bay as a neighbour:)

Wow! This IS an *aeclectic* group! Heather/Yogi Cat: I love your signiture quote - LOL... Amyel: I have to agree, it sounds like you DO have it going on. Never had anyone offer livestock for me! Great story! Jema: You mentioned you were on the coast... it sounds beautiful!!
I am in the United States. I was born in Michigan - the state with all the great lakes on the border of Canada. I still consider Michigan my home and would very much like to move back there someday. I have lived in California, Arizona (Pheonix, the capital), Virgina (near the Pentagon), and where I am currently: Florida. I have lived all over in Florida - about 8 or 9 cities. I guess I do take for granted being so close to the ocean (20 minutes drive)... but I get very tired of never having any seasons and living in such an urban place. I am tired of all the concrete. I want to live someplace with woods and trees and the fall and winter and spring seasons. My hubby has a good job right now though, so I don't know if moving will really happen or not....

I currently live in what was (not too long ago) rural North Carolina and is now more suburban (near the state capitol of Raleigh). I was born in New Jersey, but only lived there for about 10 weeks, so I'm definitely NOT a Jersey girl. Also spent some time in Georgia when I was younger, but didn't like it much.
I seemed to be doomed to be a southern girl seeing as how I HATE heat and humidity, but I never seem to move away from it. Ah, to be in the Pacific Northwest . . .
just a GRITS (girl raised in the South),

I'm from Sandefjord, Norway - a city known for it's whale-hunting (not political correct to mention I guess) and for it's Viking history. They just found Norway's oldest town here - by digging in the ground. They have also found old viking ships here.
I'm 100 % norwegian, but my brown eyes gives a reason to believe in my uncertain Gypsy roots.
