What's your favorite holiday?

Me? Hmmm... Winter Solstice (Christmas)... and (tied with or followed closely by) Shadow Fest (Halloween).

What about you? :)

Winter Solstice!
I love big bonfires!!!

I quite like Yule for the kids, although I hate all the shopping, but I think that my fave holiday has to be Samhain because it`s my wedding anniversary as well.

Btw, for non-Americans, "holiday" means vacation. The Queen's English would be "bank holiday".

For me it's definitely CHRISTMAS! And then EASTER!

Because Christmas is full of lights and Christmas carols, and decorations. And PRESENTS!! (from Father Christmas, or Santa Claus for all you Americans!).

And at Easter we get to dye our eggs, and make an Easter tree and look for all the chocolates and eat them (that the Easter Rabbit brings us - although he's a bit big for a rabbit - I think he is a hare.)

My birthday!!! Don't worry... It will be an officially recognized holiday by the time I'm done ;)

But Christmas (both Ukrainian and regular), Easter (more Ukrainian now that the Easter Bunny's stopped coming to my house :() and Hallowe'en (except they don't do it right in London... the kids get it confused with mugging!) are up there too.

My most favorite holiday is Christmas. I love getting together with my family and how everyone is so friendly around Christmas. We have a white Christmas tree that is decorated with peacocks, butterflies and stars that I bought after I first got married. Over the years we have added handmade ornaments that the girls have made in school and I enjoy setting it up with them.

My second favorite holiday is Halloween. I love the decorations and playing scarey music for the trick-or-treaters. My husband and I have been taking the girls on the same street since they were babies. It is the busiest street in town and usually the radio station gives out free drinks to the trick-or-treaters. Everyone on the street puts on performances for the youngest. It is a great time.

marmalade: you are very funny! :D It's not the first, nor the last time, I suspect, that you make me laugh out loud.

Samhain! Halloween rocks in the US, i think the US does it best tho Mexicos Day of the Dead sounds awesome too. No obligations, just get to dress my kids up cute and parade them around town so they can get candy. Always loved it, it was hard for my grandparents (who raised me) to get me to stop doing it once I was in highschool. Of course I believe in Santa til like 6th grade or so lol

Second favorite is probably my birthday, but my birthday alread IS a recognized holiday, its Yule :) All the good stuff of Chrsitmas, none of the guilt hehe

Christmas, Samhain, Beltane, Day of the Dead (Mexican holiday) in that order.

My birthday is new year's EVE...so....New year's day.......Don't have to go to work, everything is closed and you can't do anything and it's a good thing anyway because EVERYONE IS HUNG OVER.....possibly myself incuded (don't really do that to myself though)...it's a wonderful day of NOTHING...
but seriously now,
christmas can be fun with the kids, but painful on the paycheck.
easter is fun with the kids, stuff with the kids...halloween.....

Hi all,

Love Christmas..now that I do most of my shopping on-line..lol

Love to celebrate the "American-Italian" way...Christmas eve is a feast of fish and a Birthday Cake for Jesus. and Christmas we open presents get together with friends and family and eat..no wonder I have to go to the gym..lol

The tree is usually a "charly brown tree"..never perfect and always has handmade orniments...

I am a Girl Scout leader so teaching the girls that it's about sharing and loving (and how to make orniments that they can treasure) is also great..

I love Thanksgiving. The food, the opportunity to reflect on what I'm thankful for (while doing all that cooking  ). Besides, I have all of my Christmas shopping done by then anyway, so I'm really thankful. Now, if they would only replace the turkey with a good prime rib rack roast...

Christmas. And Samhain.

starr  26 Aug 2002
Definitely Halloween with New Year's close in the running.

Any Holiday off from work gets into the top 5.

Diana,

It's so true though! I was walking home on Halloween once, arms full of groceries, and this bunch of kids about 10yrs old, came up to me (on the street) and said 'trick or treat'. None of them were dressed up (unless if they were trick or treating as 10yr old boys), and when i told them i didn't have any candy to give them (they coulda had potatoes if they wanted, or maybe milk), they said 'well do you have any money then?'

Some traditions just don't translate well over the ocean...!!
