So you're headed to the video store, eh?
You walk in through the door, and the clerks all recognize you and say hello.
Off you go, to find the perfect movie for your weekend! You make your way through the aisles, past the other movie-pickers, right to your favorite section. You have seen most of the movies in this section, and could probably tell which movies are missing!
What is the section you are in?

Difficult to choose, I like various things. But I ended up voting for drama, I think that's what I like best. Others I like are comedy, mystery and a really good thriller.

Hm... I like movies for different purposes. Sometimes I just want to turn off my brain for a while and be served with a good ole action or thriller movie with not much of an intrigue and a huge amount of cheap slap-sticks and one-liners to laugh at...
But if that was the only kind of movie there was, I think I'd be pretty bored...
I love a good comedy, but have to admit I think most comedies are kinda lousy... It's hard to make GOOD comedies I think, so many tend to be only ridiculous...
I love movies with a message, one that you can keep around and ponder for a while.
But I vote for thriller, cuz that's probably what I watch most of... Not very serious when it comes to movies I guess...!! :D

I chose thriller. I also like comedies, but most are so dumb and tasteless nowadays... I also like drama and cartoons and documentaries...Almost every movie I see is foreign so that's not a genre for me.
I like most genres actually, but I guess what I watch most is thrillers. I

i do enjoy comedies, but i have to be in the mood, and like so many others have said here, a good comedy is hard to find

so i picked drama.

Indiana Jones. I have watched them all so many times. Braveheart, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, etc....
Thrillers would be second, the psychological kind. Too bad I cant convince my husband to take me to see "One Hour Photo" or "Signs"

i really want to see Signs too, but we probably won't in the theatre. i guess that's just as well, at home we can pause and discuss what we want!

Does "Foreign" mean non-American?
Does this preclude movies made in the United Kingdom?
Or does Foreign mean non-English speaking movies? (Being in Europe, half of the movies I see are non-English speaking movies, so they are not very foreign to me.)

i know, it is confusing. i took it to mean non-american movies myself. but when i think about it i guess a swedish movie would really be "foreign" then - and that don't make sense at all;)

I just thought "foriegn" meant you needed to get subtitles to understand it, no matter where you are. But I remember that they also considered "Trainspotting" foriegn in my parts, and that was in English.....

I consider Foreign to mean a movie that is not in your language.
I guess it would exclude American films, since that's probably the majority. So if you are French, a foreign film would be Finnish, Indian, etc.
boy good question! i guess whatever you consider foreign!

For me, a foreign film is a film that's made in another country than my own, regardless of the language. So even a film made in Belgium, in Dutch, would be a foreign film.
But I don't see why it should be a category in itself, whatever your definition of foreign is. I think foreign films simply belong in all the other categories. I wouldn't watch a film just because it's foreign, but because it's a drama or a thriller.

With this "foreign" thing, then 99,854 percent of movies are for me foreign, because Switzerland doesn't make many movies.
So I suppose either I have to consider all movies foreign for me. Or else I consider that the world is so small now, and we are all actually brothers and sisters (aren't we?) so that there is no such thing as a foreign movie.
I chose cult, by the way. Although comedy is also quite up my street (or rather, my aisle).

well over here in canada there are 'foreign' film sections at the video store. i think that's where the catagory came from, but obviously you would need to not look at the section is this isn't a catagory for you, where you live.

I was torn between cult and action.
My actual favourite movies are things that are so bad they tempt their viewers to MST3K them themselves. Old Italian mythological gladiator films are particular favourites. I also love Thirties serials, especially science fiction or superhero ones.
Apart from that what I watch mostly is animated and animé stuff, a fair amount of (atmospheric, not gory) costume horror, and period romance.

This was really tough because I like all sorts of movies. Fantasy and Sci-Fi have been capturing my interest the most lately ... I have also always liked Epics. The more escapist the better *LOL*.

I can't pick just one, I love all kinds of movies, as long as they're good movies and they catch my attention from the beginning. Lot like the books I read, if they don't grab me by the hair of the head and keep me there to start then, adios!
I enjoy everything from love stories, comedy, musicals...to war movies, action/thrillers and horror movies. And of course children's movies also...

I'm heavily involved in my university's Sci-Fi Society, so I end up watching a lot of science fiction and fantasy films in the Society library, albeit mostly out of the corner of one eye while I chat with my friends ;)
I especially adore Monty Python :D And to think, a year ago I didn't even know what it was!! *grin*

I chose Action/adventure, because I just love Face/Off, Gone in 60 Seconds, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. But recently, I've been really into comedies. Some that I find really good are My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The Royal Tenebaums, Ocean's 11 (does that count as comedy?). The trouble I have at finding a good movie to watch is that most of my frineds love teen movies. I must admit, some of them are good, but I don't find the ones that have recently come out that interesting. Anybody have a suggestion on a movie I might like to watch? In theatres or not, I don't care.

I voted for thriller, as it is the main type movie I like, ones that scare you a bit, psychological thrillers with twists and turns, surprise endings.
I also quite enjoy dramas and war movies, I think "We Were Soldiers" is one of my current favorites, the music is haunting in it as well as the story told, Mel Gibson plays his character amazingly well, emotion just flows from him. The women waiting back home were amazing as well.
Love and Light,
Kismet
