Yes, it's true, I sometimes am a hedonist.
I love to love. So if it's food, I loooove eating it.
If it's art, I love enmeshing myself in it.
Some of my simple pleasures and guilty indulgences follow....

* i love to have a yummy beer while watching NYPD Blue
(Pyramid's Apricot Ale beats all!)

* i love mud masks!
* i love sitting in the shower
* i love to treat myself to comics once in a while
* i love to buy myself "must have" items that i didn't know i needed!

~ what are some of your simple pleasures & guilty indulgences?

Books, books and more books.

Tarot cards.

After years of having to rise at dawn, wiggling my toes and lying in.

A perfectly chilled glass ( or three) of NZ sauvignon blanc, a cigarette and food I've talked someone else into cooking.

Laurel  06 Sep 2002
spicy pickled sausage sticks
vanilla foaming bath
new anime DVDs at least once a month
time every day to myself, eyes closed in the dark, relaxing.

Indulgence is a good thing! Its never bad unless it moves into compulsion or involves acts that intrude on the freedoms of others.

I live in Pennsylvania and have a garndners in town, so once the weather gets cooler (cant have them melt during shipping, they arent THAT kind of meltaway) and you need a fix, let me know and we can work out some kind of deal lol

:THP

Rhiannon  06 Sep 2002
My favorite guilty pleasure is having a day to myself! I love leaving the kids home with hubby and going shopping, or to a movie or to lunch ALL ALONE! Going out places alone used to bother me, but now I love it!

R :)

ChrisTheObscure  06 Sep 2002
I love to crawl up on the couch, rent a bunch of indie films ("Mulholland Drive" is my current obsession), get a bottle of chianti and some cheese and crackers, and waste the night away :)

I also love going to baseball games...and getting snockered on good old, cheap Minnesota beer :D

Not to mention roadtripping up to the Ontario woods and camping alone for a weekend. Hmmm....in fact, I may need to devote next weekend to just that!

*Homer Simpson Voice* Mmmmm Meltaways, peanut butter oozing.

amyel  06 Sep 2002
Sleeping in on a Saturday morning.

Buying the paper.

Making a big ole' cappucino and taking it and the newspaper out to the deck and read it.

Slowly.

Realizing it's almost 1:00 p.m. and stretch a bit thinking about what I'm going to do for the rest of the day.

:)

kayne  07 Sep 2002
• Red Wine (bottle only, no goon-bags for me :P)... keep it flowing please :D
• Clothes! Especially shirts. I can go a month without washing and still have funky, this season clothes to wear...
• DVD's CD's and... this is terrible... If I really like a CD, I will get all the CDsingles released for that album as well.
• Latte's in cafe's.
• Gelari Icecream. (Italian icecream is *the best*)
• Watching movies in the cinema. I have been known to watch a movie I have loved three times in the cinema...
• Going to bed at 3:30am and waking up at midday when I am on holiday.
• Did I mention Red Wine...?

WolfSpirit  07 Sep 2002
Red wine (p.s. Kayne: what's a goon bag ??)
Belgian beer
Guinness (no more than two)
(all the above not all at once)
Chocolate
Coffee or capuccino
Hot apple pie
Fresh-baked French bread with French cheese or salmon (Jade let's have lunch together :D)
Tear the wrapping paper of new books or decks
Play with the cats or go for a walk when I should do something useful

Oh dear, this list could go on and on...

Liliana  07 Sep 2002
Is a gon bag those things I always laugh at in the liquor store, those big cardboard boxes of wine with a little plastci screw top like an orange juice bottle? Ive never had the courage to try one of those, they always just crack me up thinking of drinking wine from a box. We have a winery an hour away that makes the best elderberry wine, but they only make it once a year in very limited quantities so its hard to get. But my favorite is their sherry, oh the sherry is so yummy :)

:THP

Violet Gargoyle  07 Sep 2002
I will serve you red wine in a box with a nice chianti and a side of flava beans.

Theuououppt!

napaea  07 Sep 2002
oh yeah, i have to add on chips and salsa to my list and
pizza and beer (football sundays, not to be confused w/NYPD night!)

(VG: i'm glad YOU said it, i was too chicken!)

Really good, dark roast coffee. With sweet heavy cream. Thai
food. Tarot decks. Metaphysical "stuff" of all kinds.
Kim Chee. ( Addicted to this)

Driving really fast in my car on the empty highway late at night. (Risky thrill. The late night highway is never REALLY empty. The other people on at that time of night are truckers, and the Po-Po...)

Phoenix  07 Sep 2002
I forgot to add:

Black Coffee(absolutely nothing in it!!!)
Pizza
Pasta(I could live on the stuff)
Tanning Beds
Wine(homemade is the best)
Long Island Iced Tea
Scotch

Melvis  07 Sep 2002
Waayyyy too much TV for my own good...(guilty indulgence)

Going out for breakfast on my days off...(simple pleasure)

Books & the used bookstores they come from...(simple pleasure turned into an overwhelming obsession ;) )

Peace,

Melvis
:TSTRE

P.S. ChrisTheObscure: Twins or Saints? Me=Twins! And, while I don't do beer, I just gotta have a Malt Cup when I go to a game! :D

But don't you just love the way old book stores smell?

Red raven  08 Sep 2002
a few irems I don't need, but I really want.

And I like big furry caterpillars. and clouds. Just thought I'd mention that...

That's exactly right! My parents drink 'cask wine' every night. Underage teenagers are known for drinking sweet moselle from a a cask (otherwise simply known as 'goon') in parks. NOT very classy... :P

Simple pleasures:

~ Napping under an afghan crocheted by my (now deceased) great-grandmother with both of my cats curled up with me.
~ Singing (and crying) around a campfire with good friends.
~ Camping.
~ Bubble baths (very long, very hot, with a good book).
~ Standing still and letting the wind blow around me.
~ Horseback riding.
~ Driving around on nice days with the windows down and the stereo in the truck up *LOUD*!

Guilty indulgences:

~ Hockey. Hockey hockey hockey.
~ Ogling at the Renaissance Festival (or anywhere else I feel like ogling... }) )
~ Ghirardelli hot chocolate. Or regular hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps.
~ Bailey's Irish Cream.
~ Taking a "mental health day" from work.

Poetlove  10 Sep 2002
My art supplies, and I guess soda. I really don't need or want a lot of things.

I keep everything pretty simple.

pentunen  10 Sep 2002
~Jewellery~
I just can't resist anything that dangles or sparkles. Hence I have far more jewellery than I could possibly wear and still be within the "good taste" region. *sighs* :)

~Notebooks~
I love notebooks, especially ones with cute covers or colourful paper. As a result, I have way too many notebooks, the vast majority of which are far from fully used.

~Seaweed~
Either you love it or you hate it, and it seems to love it you have to grow up with it. I unfortunately fall into this category, which means I probably have iodine levels well into the toxic zones... ;)

~Pickles~
Have I mentioned I love pickles? When I was young I used to eat them until my lips turned white from all the vinegar. *looks all nostalgic*

~Apples~
I've loved them since I was a kid. I think they qualify as my favourite food - juicy, crunchy, sweet, and *boggle* healthy too ;)

~Blue~
This is the bestest bestest colour; aye, even better than black. I'll like anything if it's blue. I still fantasize about the dream house I'll get one day with my mate, where I'm going to have my own little study decorated completely in blue - blue desk, blue computer *gets out the spray paint*, blue beanbag, blue mattress, blue bookshelf, blue walls, blue curtains, blue...
Okay, okay, I'll stop now. ;)

~Finnish Music~
Don't ask. ;p

(did you know that high iodine levels have been connected to acne breakouts)

[amyel quietly sings: "i'm blue da da dada, daaaa da da ddda...i have a blue car .lallalalala lalalallalalllalal.... i have a girlfriend, and she is so blue......i'm blue, (repeat chorus)"]

Thanks. Now I'll have that song in my head all night.

Sigh.

:)

Phoenix  10 Sep 2002
GRRR!!! AMYEL!!!!! NOW I WILL TOO!!!

Violet Gargoyle  10 Sep 2002
They played that song alot on New Years 2000.

Blue were the streets and all the trees are too......

Simple pleasures

A new book or a book new to me, either from the library, or my own.
Sleeping in on my late-shift days, what luxury.
Playing with the dogs, or cats, or birds. (The turtle is not much for games, although she does like a good swim now and then.)
Taking an extra second out of my day to notice something perfect at that moment - an outrageous sunset, the tiny bit of chill in the air on early fall mornings, the sound of rain on the porch roof...hmmm, I could go on and on.

Guilty indulgences

Taking a whole day off work just to write.
Buying clothes.
Watching a certain trashy reality show (no, I cannot say!) :|
Opening a really good bottle of wine just for myself
Office supplies (I have a weakness for them...)
Going to bookstores, because I work at the library. And I buy a *lot* of books - not to mention tarot cards.
