Ok, i'm sure there is another thread around with this info.

But who has tattoos? What are they of? Where are they?

Who has special Rings? Where? (family oriented please!)

* i have one tattoo: it's of a lily on my left thigh. it's beautiful
hoping to get another soon, probably on my low back, of Isis and a Raven

* no piercings, but i wear a favorite toe ring on my left foot

Liliana  06 Sep 2002
I have no tattoos yet but i want some, only piercing is my ears :)

My husband has 2 tattoos, one of a wizard with a scroll under it that says porvas flam on his right arm, its just black and white and not done too well, was done by a friend of his with professional tools but i dont think the right ink. I bought him one while we were dating thats on his left arm, its a cross with a smaller cross layed on top, 2 black roses and a scroll that says INRI. He might be getting another, his family is thinking of all the males getting an eagle, the family totem. He has his ear pierced

:THP

Strega  06 Sep 2002
No tattoos yet but I want one in my inner left thigh. :)

Piercings... I wear earrings on my ears (pierced when I was a baby).

Edited to add: I had two more pierced on the left when I turned 15, but they closed a year or two after I stopped wearing earrings on them. :|

Starfish  06 Sep 2002
No tattoos; my ears are double pierced.

:TQP Starfish

tabbycat  07 Sep 2002
Just pierced ears - I have very small earlobes, so I couldn't wear earrings any other way.
I'm not married but I do wear a ring on that finger - vine leaves in green and rose gold on silver. I figure if nuns can wear a wedding ring then so can I - I think of it as a symbol of being married to my Pagan beliefs.
I've thought about having a small tattoo, maybe a little pentacle, but my Mum would kill me! (yes, I know I'm over 40, but she'd still kill me!)

napaea  07 Sep 2002
c'mon, i know there are more of you out there!!

Kaz  07 Sep 2002
ok me then....

i have two butterflies dancing on me left shoulderblade, and a what they call celtic band around my right upperarm.

both my earlobes are doubly pierced.

thats all....
though getting more tattoos is tempting

jade  07 Sep 2002
i have one tattoo and my nose is pierced and my left earlobe has one piercing.

in light,
jade

ps i had a nipple piercing but let it grow in to nurse my last angel.

Diana  07 Sep 2002
On the subject of piercings, apparently depending on where they're done, they can mess up someone very badly. They sometimes pierce the vital points on acupuncture meridians, and these can be irremediably damaged.

Rhiannon  07 Sep 2002
I have one tattoo on my right shoulder blade. It's a heart made out of vines with a red rose on the upper right side and a yellow rose bud on the lower left side. In the middle it looks like the sky. The middle used to have my nickname (Cannibal, don't ask) but I had it filled in and touched up a few years ago.

I will probably get another one soon. On my right or left ankle, of a crow. And there may be more after that, they're addictive! Maybe an ouroborus eventually.

I have 2 holes in each ear and I wear my wedding ring, and I wear my Brigid pendant whenever I leave the house. I used to wear a small pentacle on a beaded necklace that I made, but the clasp broke and it needs repairing.

R :)

Strega  07 Sep 2002
Good point, Diana! :)

lunalafey  07 Sep 2002
I have a dragon tat wrapped around my upper left arm that I designed. It has ALOT of meaning. I have plans for more tats, just have not gotten around to drawing them out. I have 3 holes in my left ear and one in the right. The upper two where done as a demonstration while I was in boarding school. No-one believed that I could have pierced my own ears...so I showed half the dorm, then word got around and then had to do it again. Rings? have alot of them, can't wear them all, have one (a dragon, what else?)that is really special. It's an artists origional and she ended up selling her design, the ring is now mass produced but slightly different.

Violet Gargoyle  07 Sep 2002
I have four.

First one is a small ankh with a little wreath of Blue Roses around it on my back shoulder quarter. This was my "tester" tattoo to see if I could tolerate the pain.

Then I have my seasons:

An armlet of autumn leaves around my left arm (Fall)
An armlet of Blue Roses and Ivy around my Right arm (Summer)
Lilacs lining the bottom of my back. (Spring)

Winter- TBA- It will be put on my upper back as soon as I can stockpile the funds to pay for it- (It will probably be snow tipped stone wings)

DarkElectric  07 Sep 2002
No tats, but I have double pierced ears, and I had my septum pierced, but I let it close because my ex BF hated it so much. Now he's gone, and I can't get my septum ring back in. I could redo it, but it gave me some trouble when I would get a cold. Who needs infection!

amyel  08 Sep 2002
I have pierced ears. Single holes, as I also have small earlobes. I used to have my naval pierced, but I am prone to keloid scarring, so it never set right, and then I started to gain weight and it seemed kinda pointless to keep a navel ring when one didn't show the midriff any longer. I still have a small raised scar where it was, as a reminder of my younger, thinner, hip days...LOL

I've thought about tats, but probably won't ever get one.

tabbycat  08 Sep 2002
I forgot about this 'cos I'm so used to wearing it - a gold Virgo glyph on a chain around my neck. I bought it with money from my first ever pay cheque, so I've been wearing it for almost 30 years. No one knows what it means, and it's much cooler than most Virgo pendants. I've always envied folks with animals as their zodiac signs - so much nicer than some dopey girl with a bunch of corn!

Alissa  08 Sep 2002
I have one ink tattoo on my inner left ankle of a fairy surrounded by stardust, now about 12 years old.

My nose is pierced. My left ear is pierced 4 times, and my right twice. Also my right ear wing-flap (i dont know what this part of the body is called) is pierced.

I used to have my nipples pierced but let them grow close to nurse my son last year.

I also wear henna designs, a temporary body art, almost all the time on my hands, feet and assorted other areas, as I'm a henna tattoo artist (as one of my many trades) and it's good for business. :)

I saw a gal at a party I was at a few weeks ago with this. It looked so cool, I asked about it and I intend to have it done. My biggest problem with tats (apart from being a complete pain whimp! LOL) is that I am forever changing, so anything that I can't remove is no good for me. This gal said her henna hand design had lasted over a week, but she took good care of it to ensure it stayed a little longer: gloves when doing dishes, vaseline to keep it bright & moisturized....how long do this designs last with no special care?

I had a henna tattoo a year ago. It was cool. I intend to get another one. :D

Yogi Cat  08 Sep 2002
No tats and just single pierced ears

LeoLady  08 Sep 2002
I have a tatty teddy tattoo on my tummy see www.metoyou.co.uk for said teddy, have little cute devil on my shoulder blade lying on a cloud with a nappy on, and one on my arm but having that laser removed cos of bad associations with it. Had belly pierced but took it out cos kept getting sore, last was nose ... love that one! And have top of ear pierced and normal ones on lobes! xx

Red raven  08 Sep 2002
I've got my ears pierced, and that's it. My parents are pretty liberal, just not on the body-art issue. I wear quite a bit of jewellery to make up for it, though. ;) A birthstone ring my grandma gave me, an Ankh ring from my mother (my dad gave it to her on her 18th birthday.) a dragon necklace (With a malachite 'donut' a friend gave me.) and a leather bracelet with blue roses stiched onto it.

I've got a desighn I want to get on my 18th birthday, though (3 years and counting!) it's a small dragon. The head goes on the back of the hand, the body curls around like a bracelet and the tail goes up the forearm.

Faerie Lin  08 Sep 2002
I have my right ear pierced twice, my left 4 times, (2 at the bottom, 1 in the middle, and 1 at the very top).

My tongue is pierced, and also the area between my chin and lip. And my left eyebrow is pierced.

I have 2 star tats, one on each upper arm. I want to eventually get more things done around the stars and also get something done on my back.

My husband and I have "blood pendants" of each other, instead of wedding rings. They are clear viles with different little stones around them. Mine has peridot, amethyst, citrine, and emerald on it.

I never knew that! I didn't know you were that kinda girl! LOL!

I have all my tats planned ou, where I am going to put them. I want one of those cool arm band ones on my left arm, the somehting in Japanese Kanji on my lower back(I really want Love Sensuality, Devotion there), and something, maybe a phoenix on myshoulder, or right arm.

I also want my ear pierced. I want one of those bar piercings, the one that goes through the top of my ear, and out the side. And two or three hoop ear rings in my other ear.

I might get my navel pierced too.

destinyawaitsme  08 Sep 2002
no tattoos..I'm too indecisive. I'm always afraid that if I got one I would not like it later. :)

But I have my ear peirced and my navel peirced.

divinerguy  08 Sep 2002
I had the Gettysburg Address tattooed on my, er, um, trombone.

Normally, all you can see is, "Four score and seven years ago ..."

When my trombone slide is fully extended, you can read the whole speech.

...

...

...

...

Just kidding. I don't have a trombone.

Sulis  09 Sep 2002
I have my right ear lobe pierced 4 times, my left ear is pierced 3 times - 2 in the lobe and one right at the top. I have the middle bit of my right ear pierced as well, don`t know what that bit`s called. I have my right nostril pierced twice and my left nostril pierced once. I used to have my left eyebrow pierced but took it out a couple of years ago. I also have my naval pierced. 12 piercings in all. I have a tattoo of a bird and some flowers on my left shoulder blade, it`s about 20 years old and not very well done, a friend is in the middle of designing a new tat to cover that one.

I'm actually waiting to have the chinese symbol for the Dragon on my other arm, as the arm with 'part removed' tattoo is VERY tender and I think the scar tissue is gonna have problems so will have to wait for a bit to c what happens.

Am very interested in any dragon tats that others have seen on the web, as I do love my dragons.

Alissa  09 Sep 2002
With absolutely no special care, which is how I live and with a bby and ferqeuent hand washings, my henna designs last about 7-10 days, perhaps longer on areas that are thick skinned or calloused, like the feet and ankles.

Check my web site for more henna info too, if you're so inclined to surfing : http://alissa.sphosting.com

I couldn't agree more, amyel -- I wear henna designs that I would NEVER want done in ink. Especially my hands, I would never ink tattoo my hands. But henna, oh yes, almost every day of the year! :)

SharonElizabeth  09 Sep 2002
I have two tattoos. One of a heart with a curved dagger through it right over my heart. I have another one on my left hip with two roses, one red one blue, connected by a black ribbon. I have my right ear peirced three times and my left peirced one time (actually two but the second closed up). I had henna done a couple of months ago and liked it so much that i don't think i will ever get another tattoo. I like the fact that it's impermanent, and it's so pretty. Henna just feeds the part of me that wants to mark up my body, but with out anything permanent that I might not like down the line. I don't regret either of my tattoos, i still like them both immensely seven years later, but there's always the urge to get something more so that makes henna nice. Plus henna is just a way of slowing down and pampering yourself for a bit, because you have to wait a little while for it to dry. Henna was really a good experience for me and I can't wait to do it again.

LeoLady  10 Sep 2002
Not really ever considered a henna tattoo, there's not many places (if any) that do them here, so not sure how to go about it. Still, sounds good. Has anyone heard of the 3-5 year tattoos? Now that is a good idea! Apparently it just fades gradually into the skin! Cool or what :)

Poetlove  10 Sep 2002
I have a tattoo of an 8 ball on fire. It reprsents my brother who passed away when he was 11 and I was 16.

I had my tongue pierced, but had to lose it for school. I have my left ear pierced twice, and that is it for now. I am looking at getting more tattoos.

napaea  14 Sep 2002
poetlove that is so touching! i've just seen some things on tv where a lot of the firemen got tattoos of their friends who died in 9/11.

i have been wanting to do henna forever. we were having a girls night out party at our house one year, and we got this henna kit to do stuff on everyone, and the bottle was broken and had dried up!! so i've still never had a design, but i think it's sooooo beautiful!

those of you with pierced noses:
i've been wanting to do this for a while, but i have allergies pretty bad, and sneeze a lot, rub my nose like i'm gunna rip it off. would this damage the area? i mean, would it hurt to have a ring or stud in my nose if i rub it so hard? if it weren't for that i would want to get one, but i'm afraid i'll rip it right out of there!

Diana  14 Sep 2002
napaea: I'd like to repeat here what I said in a previous post:

"On the subject of piercings, apparently depending on where they're done, they can mess up someone very badly. They sometimes pierce the vital points on acupuncture meridians, and these can be irremediably damaged."

Why don't you go and see an acupuncturist first, or someone who has studied Chinese medicine before you do something you may regret afterwards.

Molly  14 Sep 2002
Divinerguy: LOL!

I had a tongue piercing, but it grew back very quickly when removed for dental work. I do miss the tongue ring. I had a belly button piercing but I took it out when I got pregnant. I now have a very long scar from that, so I regret ever doing that. I think the belly ring was more me trying to be trendy than just being myself.

I have a tatoo on my bikini line area (a heart with flames) which I also regret: I was young and wanted to look sexy but after two pregnancies, it is just, well, a lot more of a blob than anything sexy. I think that was a "trendy" thing too.

I have a tatoo which I am glad I got though. It is in the middle of my lower back and is all black (all black tatoos seem to look better than color years & years later). It is Hindu sanskript for the word Love which is "Prem"... and Prem happens to be the name of my husband. I got it when we were dating... I joked that since it means love, no future boyfriend will think that I have another guys name on me - but seriously I wanted our relationship to last forever so it was real symbolic for me. We're married now, and I'm still glad I have it. It's also quite pretty *G*.

Alissa  14 Sep 2002
How sad about your henna... :( If you ever want a recommendation for a good source of henna supplies to try it again, let me know. I would be gald to get you some henna to get on your hands~!

My nose is piereced and it's never been a problem for blowing it in any way. I too wondered if blowing mynose or allergy season or whatever was gonna be a nightmare to deal with. Most nose studs are called nostril screws, and they're bent like a "screw" to fit along the side of the nostril, out of the way. My nose ring never gets in the way either.

Diana is right, a good piercer is essential to having a good piercing that won't cause you trouble. I recommend getting it done somewhere you know is reputable and professional. I wanted to pierce my nose higher on the nostril, but the piercer insisted on me compromising, explaining that there were some nerves (meridians?) there and we had to stay further down the nostril. Or else she wouldn't do it. Period.

A hack would have just done what I asked and not cared.

Alissa  14 Sep 2002
and you can rub your nose as hard as you want, but if you're wearing a stud with a stone, the prongs might sratch your hand. That's about it.

Remember, a nose piercing can grow closed quickly so you ALWAYS have to wear it. Even a few hours open on a regular basis can cause the pierceing to close. So it's a bit of a commitment, and some people can't wear one all the time due to work concerns or whatever.

Kaz  14 Sep 2002
diana,
you are right so on the piercing stuff you said earlier, too late for the ones i have now, but if i ever get another i will keep this in mind.
i am curious though, as you didnt tell us what you have.......have you got any peircings and/or tattoos?

kaz

Diana  14 Sep 2002
Kaz: lol.

No, no piercings, no tats. I had my ears pierced once when I was an adolescent, but I am allergic to anything stuck in my body, even gold. I can put a ring through the ear for 10 seconds, and half an hour later, the earlobe gets filled with pus.

So I am unadorned.

I don't wear jewellery either - I always feel like I look like a Christmas tree if I wear the stuff. :D

I don't even own a wedding ring.

Umbrae  14 Sep 2002
pierced left ear. Done by hand in the mid-70's.

lili  14 Sep 2002
I just have my ears pierced it was done when i was about five years old if i decide to have another piercing done it will be my tongue i find it very sexy I'm not sure about getting a tat, I heard that it could be expensive to have it remove.

Molly  14 Sep 2002
I have a question: A lot of parents pierce their baby girl's ears when they are around 4 months these days... I think it looks cute and all and have thought about it with my daughter... but what would be the reason? So people know she's a girl? I would rather just tell people... I kind of think I would rather wait until she's old enough to ASK for pierced ears... it seems to me kind of rude to do something to someone else's body without their permission - even if it's your kid. Just a thought I had and was wondering what others thought of that?

wavebreaker  14 Sep 2002
I have my left ear pierced twice, my right ear three times.
I've only been wearing one earring in each ear for at least 5 years now, but in my case the other holes didn't close, I could still use them if I wanted to. Maybe I should... ;)

Kaz  14 Sep 2002
tarotlady, yea, you should, i think it looks great when you have more than one in each ear........

That's funny....my parents did exactly that with me when i was 13 and really wanted my ears pierced. he ( acupuncturist) draw two little dot's on my ears and then whe went to someone to get it done.
I was a real teenager then so i thought it was something so stupid and tippical for my "weird" parents...but i'm really glad that they did this! And love them...now i'm weird myself ;)

jade  14 Sep 2002
my body piercer knew the spots that were best for my nose and he told me, so i listened and had it done where he told me to. :)

if/when i get my nipple redone.....i'll have it done by him again since he knows where to pierce and where not to!

in light,

magicmadrigal  16 Sep 2002
I just got my first tats this past July! I have a celtic knot pentacle about 2 1/2 inches in diameter inbetween my shoulders. I also have under that a kanji character of my daughter's name, Grace.

It' way kewl and I love them!!

Kyrielle  17 Sep 2002
It took me until I was almost 18 for me to get the courage to have my ears pierced (once each) and I don't plan on doing anything else. No tattoos either.

I actually saw a baby boy once with his left ear pierced already! I think the reasoning is that pierced ears are extremely common and well accepted (once per ear and on females) so the parents get it over with early and their child won't remember the pain. I was jealous for a long time of babies with pierced ears because it would seem like they had their pierced ears forever while I had to spend so much time obsessing about pain and possible infection and sensitivity...etc.

-- Kyrielle

Molly  17 Sep 2002
man, this thread made me remember something ... yes, I can understand piercing kids ears but what about tatoos on children? Has anyone heard of that ever? I was having a conversation with someone about tatoos and she said she had friends who had tatoos and so did their son... their *8* year old son. I was like, "huh - that's crazy" and she said that he wanted tatoos and his parents let him get them - more than one. I don't know... I think she was making that whole story up. She seemed offended that I was so outraged. I just can't imagine an 8 year old sitting thru a tatoo in the first place, and in the second place - 8 years old! Permanent tatoo! How could an 8-year-old be allowed to make a decision about something that will be on their body forever? I was just thinking how weird that whole conversation was and wondered if anyone else had heard of tatoos on kids (not counting tribal tatoos that some cultures or tribes do as rites of passage into adulthood)... ?

In our Western society, this I find absolutely disgraceful. But I wonder if it is true. Anyway, I am sure any decent tatoo artist would refuse to do this. The ones I have met are normally very professional people. But I suppose one could get the wierdo who would accept doing something like this.

But your comment made me think that some babies get baptised into churches without even asking their opinions, let alone asking them to make one! And that certainly stays not just on their bodies, but in their souls for a long long time, especially if they are obliged to go to that church all their life.

(I am going off-topic here. I will accept any scoldings with good grace! :D )

napaea  18 Sep 2002
actually diana, i think that is a really good point!

napaea  18 Sep 2002
also, thanks diana for all the wise info on the acupuncturist!
gee, i had never thought of that, and now it seems so obvious!!
thanks again!

Kyrielle  19 Sep 2002
I think it's illegal to tattoo anyone under 18. At least it is here. Doesn't necessarily keep anyone from doing it, though.

Maybe they meant those temporary tattoos that come off in a few days. They are really popular with kids that age. I hope they meant those!

-- Kyrielle

Molly  19 Sep 2002
<<< Maybe they meant those temporary tattoos that come off in a few days. They are really popular with kids that age. >>>

You know, I asked about that. Specifically. I questioned whether she had seen the kid or not and if they were real and she was very adament in "yes - they were real" "yes - she hung with the whole family" "yes - he asked for them and he got them" and I think family members did the tatoos... but this girl was so odd that after our friendship disolved, I thought about that whole conversation and I really wondered if she was actually telling me the truth. The curiosity kills me *G*.... but there's no way I'll ever know.

WhiteDrag0n  25 Sep 2002
Wow dont know how I missed this thread! Lets see I have a double pirced eyebrow, pirced labret, and the middle cartilage on my left ear. Ive also got a dragon tattoo on my left shoulder. Its a serpent dragon. I want to get a celtic cross on the back of my neck. :)

I wear a gold puzzle ring on my right ring finger (not married yet ;-) ) and a pounamu (greenstone) pendant that means friendship and eternity ...
