[i originally posted this under the chat section as a 2 parter, but jade suggested i break up the query and post each query into the appropriate section. thanks jade!]
Since moving to Ottawa, I feel I have "lost" my ability to read for myself. I want it back! I also used to be alot more intuitive them I feel I am now, and I miss this aspect of my self.
I *think* it might have something to do with the spirit of the original female co-owner of this house, who, I found out last summer, died of cancer. I'm not sure she died in the house, but I know she spent alot of time quite ill in the house. So, I'd like to do a simple cleansing ceremony, but, not being very adept at wiccan rituals, I'm not sure how to start, or even if this is the the "only" way to cleanse the house. I feel that this house has alot of negativity in it, but my intiuitive feelings are that this is a result of the sadness of the owner's death and not that the house itself is negative, if this makes any sense...(?). Apparently, she used to be quite the social butterfly and there were often parties held here. Does a house mourn?
I had a couple of responses in the original chat section post, one regarding smudging and one regarding Feng Shui. I'm happy to try either - or all, if that wouldn't be overkill! Also, I liked Jades response under the Sumdging post on this forum regarding boiling cedar...something I know I can get, since I live in the same country.
Any other suggestions?

Hi Amyel,
Concerning cleansing the house, there is a really great book called "Creating Sacred Space With Feng Shui", by Karen Kingston. I have the French edition, but it says that the original was published by Judy Piatkus Ltd., England in 1996. She explains very clearly and interestingly the method of cleansing she uses based on her Bali background (her husband is Indonesian). Hey, I've just seen on the back cover that she has a website : www.spaceclearing.com. Perhaps you'd like to check it out (I'll be visiting it when I get off Aeclectic). Perhaps she even knows of someone in Ottawa who has followed one of her courses and who could help you.
I used some of her method in my office last year when I started a new job and I felt terribly oppressed like a dark hand was trying to smother me. The whole atmosphere changed and I didn't even go all the way she suggests.
I have no experience of the other problem you spoke about. Are you sad to have moved to Ottawa? Did you go there a little against your will? If so, I would imagine that this could play havoc with your intuition. But as I don't know if this is the case, I don't really want to go more into this, in case I'm on the wrong path.
Love to you.

I don't know about cleansing spaces of negativity with some kind of ritual. The house I moved into 10 years ago was sold to us by a couple who were in the process of a divorce. At our settlement, we found out that the house was the last item to hold up the divorce; after the sale they were totally done with each other. I didn't want to move (it took me away from family & friends) and the other woman was devastated that her marriage was over. It was so sad at the settlement table, we were both crying! None of the men knew what to do with either of us sitting there in tears. Anyway, I found out that over time that negativity that the space holds will be replaced with positive energy from your own family and the experiences you create in your new surroundings. I think of this space now as my "home" and only very rarely get twinges of negativity from the prior owners. Consult books on the subject for ritual type cleansings, but remember to just give it some time, too! Best wishes with your new surroundings, hope it works itself out for you!

Amyel,
There may be quite a bit under the "smudge thread" but I'm responding here. Energies can remain in homes, your intuition is on target. Just as stones are purified of their journeys, spaces can and should be. It doesn't take a lot -- I've had success with an incense stick (sage is good) waved in each room and around doors and spots that seem in greater need. You can probably trust yourself to "read the rooms" and know where to concentrate your efforts, but a general cleansing will do the job. Also, it can be good to say something affirmative, something of your own is usually more powerful, including a statement to the effect that any lingering spirits go in peace. In my experience, intention is everything.

Amyel,
I meant to respond to your other remark too about feeling less able to read for yourself since you moved to Ottawa. The energies of the house may have shut you down a bit. Depressed energy can have that effect. If you purify the space and affirm it, your psychic awareness will probably come back in full force. Your Higher Self may be protecting you from unwanted energies at present.

Hi, listen about cleaning negative energy from a home , trust me , I've done it a few times, Place a clear bowl of water(cold) in the middle of the room add a dash of salt to the water light a white candle, say as cool as this water is , may this room be as cool and as clear, as salt cleanses all things ,water cleanse this room for me, as white as the lite i shine, all who live here be in peace. do this in all the rooms then for 9 days set the bowl of water in a special place in the house, every day for 9 days lite a white candle when you empty the water each day throw the water in the toilet, you are teaching the spirits and negative energies to leave your home. wrap your tarot in a white cloth and wait till you clean the home. at the end of the 9 days do an incense of myrrh.. this will welcome in good vibrations and you can start feeling your own energies again. then do what you regularly do to your tarot. Hope I helped

Also:
Whenever someone feels thier is a negative spirit or lingering spirit in your home, simply put a glass of cold water in the floor of your bathroom, with a white candle, for 9 days slowly raise it,( each day you raise it alittle) the ninth day make sure its higher than your head.make sure you lite it everyday for nine days, also change the water everyday, and throw the water in the toilet, why , the bathroom is also like a cave, the toilet leads to the sewer, which is a deep hole, a burial hole. you have thus taken a wandering spirit, into the energy of lite and rebirth. Good Luck

of course, as my soul-mom always says, if you aren't into the whole dog and pony show, you can always just walk around your home and tell the energy that you want it to be clear and full of light.....all negativity is to leave, and positive energy take it's place.
but, if you feel more comfortable with a dog and pony show, then follow your intuition and do it up grand. i'm just a down to basics, keep it simple, kinda gal.
in light,
jade :)

"Dog and pony show" !! LOL , I wish I had those laughing emoticons!!! People laugh but in the past I have used eggs , yes , eggs to banish negativity from my home. Hard boil 7 eggs , then place or hide them in rooms about the house . One under each bed is good , bathroom and kitchen cabinets , a vase or shelf in the living room etc. Start on the full moon and collect them up and throw them out on the next full moon . (leave them for 28 days)They will have absorbed up the negative energies in the home.
I also use essential oil of myrrh. It's very thick and strong smell , almost like pinesol or something. I put 5 or 6 drops in a spraybottle full of water (it may ruin the spraybottle but is worth it)and spray everydoorway, 4 corners of everyroom , and any other place or object I think needs it. I also ask the triple goddess and the god to banish all negativity from this home as I am doing this. If you don't have a spray bottle , you can "annoint" the home with the oil of myrhh, by putting a tiny drop on your finger and touching each doorway and other objects in home.

While having my house built and stuff... i read and used many of the spells from the book. Cleansed the house, blessed it, etc...
and let me tell ya, my house is great at grounding anything i don't want here out!
hope this helps,
blessed be,
