How does the MOON affect you???

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 01 Feb 2002, and now archived in the Forum Library.

Hi everyone...

here I am again...

You know...when I look at the moon, I donīt know what happens to me...I feel kinda hipnotized...
I am just fascinated by the moon...it seems to have some kind of power over me, īcause when itīs there, big and bright, up in the sky, my blood boils in my veins, and I just canīt stop admiring it...

Of course, the moon is just a celestial body, like any other, and if we were there, weīd just see it as a place like Earth, except for the gravity...what leads us to another question : If we lived on the moon, do you think that the Earth would cause the same effect the moon does on us???

Well, anyway...I just wanted to know if itīs just me, or anybody else feels the same way about the moon...the energy it sends us...the fascination it causes...the beauty of it..I donīt know...even the poetry of it

Maybe Iīm just a little crazy...lol...but, this is it...thatīs my question...

JUST a celestial body? Next to the sun it's THE celelstial body!..at least for earthlings.

I know what they say about the sun being the sustainer of life on earth but you can't even look right at the damned thing! The moon is so much more inviting.

Then you have sensation of closeness that you never have with the sun. When the moon is full and hanging just over the trees you get the impression of it's size and weight and you feel like it should come crashing down...how does it balance out there?

And if that weren't enough, it changes it's appearence daily, presenting us with a new facet each evening.

Yes, I've noticed the same thing you're talking about.

Well I am just completely overwhelmed by the beauty of the moon. It always makes me feel magical and wonderous. It's like no matter how chaotic the world is or how screwed up things seem, when I see the moon shining down it just all disappears.
Also it is fascinating to me to watch the changes she goes through each month and how it models so closely our own lives. Its amazing to me how it perfectly represents the monthly changes in a womans body.
I live way out in the country side, far from glaring light pollution and when the moon is full I can read a book easily by the light. Moonlight makes everything beautiful!
This past Samhain the moon was wonderful. I stayed up all night outside watching her. Around 4 am the woods surrounding my house filled up with a dense fog but it was a low lying fog which hung closely to the ground. By this time the moon was low on the horizon and shining through the woods that surround my house. Long moonbeams projected through and around the trees, bouncing off the fog. It was one of the most unforgettable things I have ever seen and it made me weep at the sight of pure beauty. It was absolutely surreal! I will never forget it.
blessings,

The Moon blinds itself so that you can enjoy sunlight without being blinded yourself...;-)...
I always feel secure when i see the moon...it reminds me that a fair number of greater beings would rather see me happy than sad...And I usually pray to it the first time (at least) i see it of an evening...
Despite me leaning to the Norse, I still see the Moon as female though...
strange...

To me the moon is our beacon to the universe. It does not shine with it's own light, but reflects the light of the sun, letting us know that the source of life is always there. When I see the moon, I connect to the universe. The moon beckons us to reach for the stars.

The cyclic nature of the moon mirrors the cycles of life on earth. Always changing, always renewing.

The moon is indeed a magical sphere.

magdalene  02 Mar 2002
Well, sometimes it coincides with my "cycle."

But mostly, it brightens the dark sky, and comforts me.

Apparently more than I ever realized before, now this may sound crazy....

But a couple of weeks ago (just about the time of the new moon) I started to have a run of "bad luck". My job was really stressing me out. Mistakes were being made and blamed on me or others I work with, people I've worked with for years were being demoted or outright fired. My friends father found out he has pancreatic cancer. And then, the day after the full moon, I backed into a neighbor's car! Now you can chalk all that up to coincidence if you want.....

But then last night (2 days after full moon) I lost my credit card. Fortunately when I called the bank no one had tried to use it and I just need to have it replaced. Definitely less "bad" than hitting a car!

As this moon wanes I'm hoping that my "bad luck" will begin to recede and that with the New Moon, Fortuna will smile upon me again (or at least cut me some slack!).

I even went so far as to perform a "bad luck banishing ritual" and I prayed to the Goddess that she replace my current misfortunes with some "good luck". March 13th is the New Moon. I CAN'T WAIT!

Rhiannon :)

P.S. Just as a precaution I told my friend to make sure her father's surgery wasn't until AFTER the new moon. The surgery will be on March 20th. Any prayers and light are appreciated! Thanks!

Ramses  02 Mar 2002

I would think that if you were on the moon , the earth would be even more amazing to us than the moon is now! The Earth must be a Huge event to the moon!

My friend can NEVER sleep on the full moon. I've actually howled at her before, kinda my way of tributing her. My howls sound realistic, that some people actually believe that a wolf is roaming my neighbor hood! Anyway, my sign is Cancer, and as we all know, Cancer is ruled by the moon. My altar shines with an aura that is amazing, dragons surround my house, and my Moonstone glows the beautiful blue hue it naturally has. I feel invincible on the full moon. In fact, we almost did a pet healing ritual on the full moon, it felt natural to do it. I didn't realize it was the full moon. I feel like doing rituals during the full moon.

Whoever had the sick kitty (sorry! memory loss!): did you try that pet healing thing?

I love the moon. Full moons make me feel invigorated and relaxed all at once. As a child I was always drawn to the moon. I never understood why until just the past few years. I love to stand outside durning the full moon with my arms spread wide and my face tilted towards the sky and let the full moon wash over me. Then I sit back and just watch the moon for a few hours. It is hard to discribe the feeling I get from doing this. Its a cleansing, relaxing, invigorating... spiritual moment.

M.Dragon! Im also a cancer and falls greatly in love with the moon. I like to stare at the moon and have a really fresh feeling. The breeze..and the shiny look of the moon up the dark dark sky. Is..really a very nice feeling. But sometimes a yellowish "dirty" full moon gives me bad feelings. I can see 'things' or hear cryings and laughings at midnight of -full moon-

RedEarth  04 Jun 2003
My 2 yr old daughter is very affected by the full moon. A few days (well, nights actually) before a full moon she is very unsettled at night, and the night of the full moon ..well, have you ever tried sleeping in the same bed as a wide awake toddler??
My friend makes gem essences and gave me some to try, Psychic protection ones to help protect her and moonstone, to help her tune into the moon more in the day. It really worked last full moon! When she is older I will leet her stay up if she wants, but at 2, she needs her sleep at night lol

"The Owl and the Kitty-Cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat:
They took some honey,
and plenty of money
Wrapped up in a five-pound note....

And hand in hand on the edge of the sand
They danced by the light of the moon,
The moon,
The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon."

the moon has always been significant to me...i absolutely love it when it's full...but then, i was born 10 hrs before the full moon, so you gotta figure i'd love it...

i feel more alive then, more vital...new moons never do much for me, i get tired to some extent...but a full moon? i feel energized!!

when i took classes in photography, my subject was often la lune...

i can't remember now, but i know i've read about certain cultures having special reverence for the moon...

in either case, to me there's only one thing more beautiful than the moon, and that's the ocean...:D (and the two together are a dream)

many blessings,

~azure

Here raising another hand. I love to look at the moon too. :D
When i was a child i often thought i would like to own a house with walls made of glass on the moon. Was one of my daydreams hehe.

Dont know if the moon phases affect me a lot. But seems natural it has power over us, since it moves the tide of the seas, and most of our body is made of water.

marlowe  05 Jun 2003
since the moon affects the tides, and we're about 98% water (or something like that I believe), I believe that the moon affects us deeply. And of course, the word Lunatic has its etymological origins in the moon, so it seems to have been noted by others before.
