Autism and psychic abilities?

I have an autistic son who is 6 now. This ought to be interesting and I know alot out there may not know much about autism but I swear sometimes my kid is psychic. This is in no way to make up for his disability and trying to look for something in him but its way weird because he loves all the candles I light and whenever I do circle casting he is sooo interested. He loves to get into all my metaphysical tools-stones,tarot cards, oils what have you. This is truly a beautiful thing for me to see as getting a diagnosis of autism was not an easy thing for me nor any parent to go thru. What are anyone elses thought on this matter? Autistic children are quite different as in they don't peseive the world as we do maybe that is the reason for more psychic abilities. There is also a wide range of autism so I am only speaking for my son. Any opinions are truly welcome on this vascinating topic.

There is so much about this world that we do not know. Science tells us they have all the answers...however that is a crock.

The biggest part of "psychic" is simply being a special kind of awake...being aware of that which others dismiss. It is being able to see between things.
Your son? Does science really understand? Or is it theories?
Most folks, when confronted by magick, will rub their eyes; carefully editing what they saw until it will fit within the realm of their possibilities.
It sounds like an area he should be allowed to explore, and encouraged towards.

Interesting idea, Deb E.
As you'd know, there are so many myths about autism out there (many perpetuated by Rainman! IMO). the whole idiot savant idea- lovely but rare.
Having said that- you would know your son like no other. If anything reaches them and stimulates them, then that is wonderful. Whether he is truly psychic (definitely possible) or just stimulated by it all (it's such a sensual practice), it can only be an enriching for him.
I think it is absolutely wonderful!

I must say that my experience with Autistic people was wonderful. I spent quite lot of time when I was 13/14/15 helping out at the local Autistic school. The people there were lovely! They all seemed so clever, in a different kind of a way... Not in the way we'd say Steven Hawking was clever, but in the way that we'd say sombody who sees things as they really are as clever.

I do think Autistic people have some ability further than others... I don't know why. I can't even explain it really! But I will always treasure the memories of my days there, esp. all the love and trust I felt from the kids there. To be able to open up in that way to people, to be able to fully trust someone like that... That IMO is an intelligence that is worth so much more than knowledge of Quantum Physics.

Hello Deb E

I actually work with autistic kids and I really believe those kids can pick up more things than the "average" person.
Does not every book on autism say that they are more sensitive to stimilus from the outside world!!!
So IMO these kids are so sensitive that they can even pick up the energies of magical work, crystals etc.

Love and light

To you and your son:)

I have to say I am crying right now from all the responses I have received so far I didn't expect so many to reply. When my son was first diagnosed I was devistated. Then the shock wore off and I could see he was so special more than I had ever imagined possible. We even have nightmares at the same time sometimes. When me and my husband suspected there may be something wrong with him but since he didn't fit into the "Rain Man Criteria" we did not ever think it was autism. Yes these children are definitely aware in away that is not like non-autistic people. Sometimes I wish I was in their world without the oversensory problems though. LOL! I have to make light of some things that is how I cope. I really believe alot of these kids are more psychically attuned.

It may not be my place to speak out but i think your son is lucky having a mother like you!

In my work i see too many parents just blocking it out. It is too painfull for them to accept the fact that there kid is different. I understand their pain but i feel fore their children.

Love and light

Thank you so much Maan for your reply. If I weren't studying spirituality I would probably be another one of those parents blocking it out. My husband still is having a hard time dealing with it. He grieved alot longer than I did which I can understand as fathers relationship with their sons is very different from Mother and son relationships sometimes. I really do try my best to cope and my life has continued on as it should. There are days when I am just too tired to do another thing and that is normal so I do what I can and don't beat myself up if I didn't get everything done for him one day. When my son is relaxed I give him Reiki touch and light alot of seven day vigils for him. The oracle that I prefer using with him more than tarot is the Rune stones they seem to really match up with what is going on with him and he loves getting into them big time also. In fact he broke a few from another set I had so i have to hide them from him but when I can supervise him I will let him pick from them its quite interesting to see what Runes come up. Love and light back at ya Maan

I don't know alot about autism, but I do know that with any disability, another of your sences is increased-as so to take place of whats lacking. I beleive that all of us have psychic premonitions at times when the Lord permits, some more than others. I see no reason why your son can't be psychic. We all contain some psychic ability in us, we just have to learn how to use it.

lunar_rabbit  28 May 2002
I actually believe we are all psychic. But the every day world and our worries and preconceived notions keep us from being aware of it. I have always believed that children and animals sense things that us busy adults don't -- whether by choice or habit. I don't know much about autism, but it wouldn't surprise me if your son was more psychic than most. It makes sense that a young person like your son would have extra special ways of looking at things -- which is what we often call psychic.

I think it's just wonderful that you as his mother are aware of it. He is really lucky to have you to help nurture his unique way of seeing things.

Sorry but I have been unable to make any post and Lunar Rabbit I truly appreciate your reply. Its great to be back and make my post again. Yes I feel very lucky to have my son as a psychic autistic child :) Take care

my twin nephews are autistic, the younger more so than the older one. i suspect, and so does his wife, that my brother is high level autistic, asberger's syndrome. ( and no, i don't think that is spelled correctly) i myself have ADD.
it is difficult with the boys because in addition to being autistic they have genius level IQs. Well, the older one has been tested twice and seems to be especially gifted in math and science. the younger one is not enough in this world, yet, to be tested. the powers that be, however assure us that he is undoubtably as gifted as his brother. Although we like to think of ourselves as intellegent we have never had this sort of thing in the family before and it is strange path for us.
the thing is that life frequently takes with one hand and gives with the other so your son might very well be phycic.
i have watched my nephews grow from babies to 9 year olds and each year it has become easier to communicate with them. they will never be like you and me but..you take what comes.
just last week i watched the older twin explain something about computers to the younger twin and i could see that the younger twin was really there, listening understanding...oh wow!

Hi Cyan thanks for your post. Yes in my family my son is the first to have such a disability of autism. It is not in our family at all. Right now we are doing quite well in getting him potty trained as this is a big problem for some not all autistic children. He is very gifted but I don't think as you stated about one of the twins that he would be able to take a I.Q. test. He knows how to run VCR's since he was 2 1/2 and loves C.D. Player, radios and anything electronic. He is very physically fit and loves to use my Pilates exercise ball. The kid has major flexibility. I look more at my child as being my son and not just autistic for this can really get in the way of bonding. My husband is still dealing with this part. He is first my son then he is autistic. I think its very important to learn that first before just looking at the autism. My son is not talking very much as we had hoped he would be by now he is 6. But he is trying very hard to make sounds into words. I am glad your nephews can talk. My son loves to play with my things on my altar and pick up tarot cards and he loves the Rune stones. I can't leave any crystals around or any type of stone or else he walks off with it and I don't see it again. I wish your nephews the best! Love and light. Take care.
