Greetings.
I need some info on the Celtic Cross (the cross, not the spread :P ). What does it symbolize? Where does it come from; who designed it? What does the engravings stand for?
(I would have done this myself, hadn't it been for the dam* computer... it freezes all the time!)

I did a paper on the Celts once, the importance of religion to them, and I have found that the Cross iself represents Christianity, Christ, while the ciecle around the top of the cross, where it forms a "t" represents the Sun God Belenus, a tie to their pagan roots.

I've heard a number of stories about the origins of the Celtic cross - Irish primary schools really drill the whole heritage think into kids - but it's clear that the cross symbol is pre-christian rudimentary examples exist from before the establishment of christianity.
The circle is generallly interpreted as representing the Sun (or Son!) and hence life-force, and the cross itself may be either a symbol of the four pathways of life, the strata of Brehon society, or combined male/female, positive/negative symolism as in the cross typically surrmounting an orb.
Or so I've read :)
