Lammas fast

at another board, someone posted a thread regarding fasting. she doesn't know it yet, but it opened a very healthy dialogue, the result of which is that quite a number of us have dedicated ourselves to a group fast. this will occur on the final weekend of July, just before Lammas (Northern hemisphere), the first harvest festival. we will be fasting from dusk Friday to dawn Monday. so i am inviting anyone here who is interested to join this group. you must research and discuss the concept of fasting before you decide. this is NOT recommended for anyone with hypoglycemia, diabetes, eating disorders or any sort of immune deficiency. you must consider your work situation too. for those who are interested, but cannot participate due to health (or any other) reasons, a symbolic fast is an option. perhaps you can give up cigarettes, or caffeine, sex (?!), or something else for the weekend. and since this is a great opportunity for meditation and focus, we thought we could channel all that energy into a world-wide spell for peace, or wisdom, or... ? in addition, a corresponding donation to your local food bank would be a wonderful way to help those whose 'fasting' is NOT by choice. so, a discussion on this is encouraged. anyone have any ideas? are you interested? __________________ "There's somethin' bigger than Phil!"

sorry this reply has taken so long, i've had trouble logging in here lately. okay, this fast will be taking place 6:00PM Friday July 26th until 6:00PM Sunday July 28th, with the group focus now determined (thanks shiva!)... to send healing energy to the spirit of the Earth and honor Gaia by NOT taking from her for a period of 48 hours. and this, i feel, is symbolically significant as it occurs right before the First Harvest Festival, and is a wonderful opportunity to perform some significant group magick. those participating will REALLY appreciate Lammas this year! any donations to a local food bank would be appropriate at this time too. and i urge you all to research fasting before you decide. here's a few good links... http://www.healthy.net/asp/template...ticle&ID=1996#1 http://www.hps-online.com/nsectionfast.htm http://www.fasting.com/ i hope that some of you will join us in this, to whatever extent you feel comfortable. peace!

Greenman--what a great idea! I can't join in the actual fast, but a symbolic abstinance I can do, I'll have to think of something significant to give up... And the idea of donating to the food bank is also great! Count me in... is there any planned 'moment' or minute or hour for any particular focusing of power? Or just whenever within the 48 hours one can sit down and meditate?

we have not set 'synchronized' time, just the 48 hour period that we'll all be involved together. however, i am asking that people use a good part of this time to focus on the goal, either through meditation, or ritual, or however you prefer to focus. there wouldn't be much point in not eating for two days and just sitting around playing video games! and thanks hermit, glad to have you aboard!
