Well, I know that mythological creatures no longer exist on this plane, and I believe that they do exist on the Astral plane. But I was wondering if it is possible to be a mythological creature in a past life. I know that you an be animals, but can you be like a phoenix, because I have a weird feeling that I was a phoenix a LONG time ago.

i'm not even sure i believe in reincarnation, but i know for certain that my cat was a dragon in some past life. (if you caught my post under the divine quiz thing, this is one of those big contradictions i was referring to.) in fact, i have a feeling we've been together for a very long time looking after each other in various forms.
so while i don't have an opinion yet about PEOPLE being mythic beings in past lives, well... my CAT certainly was.

Well, I suppose so :) I mean I remember a past life on another planet/plane of existance (not sure which) so you could of been a phoenix, who am I to say no:)

I've heard about that before. past lives, souls, and whatnot. I think they're called 'otherkin'.

i know a few "otherkin" (was informed recently that the term is a bit offensive... *shrug*). two elves and a changeling. hadn't thought about them before since i didn't consider them in the "creature" realm. also, when i was speaking with one of the elves about a week and a half ago, it didn't seem to me that he felt this was an issue of reincarnation. to him, he IS an elf.

Phoenix, maybe you have a spirit guide who is a phoenix? That could be why it's on the top of your mind in a sort of astral level. Just a thought!
Or perhaps the phoenix has qualities and characteristics or lessons that you need in your life right now in order to move on. I don't know anything about that creature, otherwise I would offer some speculation.
I have strange feeling that I have a gryphon around me. Which is really strange because I didn't even know what I gryphon was until I described this odd creature I had seen in a meditation to my husband. He said "Was it a gryphon?" I said, "I have no idea. What is that?" Then I looked it up on the Internet, and sure enough! There he was! Weird.

That was the other possibility that occured to me as well. Perhaps I do have one for a spirit guide. I should meditate upon it.

Yes it is very possible that you could have been a phoenix in your past life, but when you were reincarnated your soul decided to be a human... (That's just the teaching of the Goddess don't have to believe it) I was a dragon in my past life... and a young women in another.. and now I'm human again... you could have been anything in your past life, but if you are having feelings that you were a phoenix then you most likely are one.

I suppose you'd have 50% people telling you yes, and 50% people telling you no.
You're never going to be sure. So just go with your heart.

the thought that one could be elves, phoenixes, drawfs, vampires(?), pontianaks(?) etc etc in the past life never occurred to me before.
If it never occurred to me before does that mean i was probably never one in the first place?
if i start to think I was a fairy in my past life now will that make me one then?
is it the truth or is it something that is conjure from the fiction and we believe it because it satisfy our own fantasy about ourselves?
Hey! NO offense by raising these thoughts.. they just come to me.

um, actually, some mythological creatures do still exsist on this plane (you don't have to believe me if you dont' want to, but I've seen a mermaid) but to answer your question, I believe it to be possible, yes. And whose to say that your past life as a phoenix was here on this plane? hmmmm? some food for thought.

I, too, believe it's possible. As an interesting sidenote to this question, I have a friend who is a regression therapist -- she once gave a client the suggestion that he should go to the first lifetime having the most profound effect on the current one, and he encountered himself as a musical note.

Ditto baby! That's me to a T. I feel like I AM an elf. I'm sure I've had a past life or two being an elf, but I know my spirit is an Elf, and I feel that come through into my body. I've even had some enhancements done permanently to my ears (although you don't really notice it) to make them slightly more pointy.

I also could have been an elf... But I KNOW for sure I was a dragon. And a demon lord... and a vampire, oh wait, that's me now.... any way, yeah, you probably were a pheonix. And knowing my luck, I was friends with you!

...I didn't hear this yet, and I agree one can explore possiblities. My idea is perhaps if a person feels connected to a creature we believe is mythological for this world in 2003, whose to say it isn't a living entity somewhere else?
Still might be around, somewhere.
I don't really know much about all the lovely connections that strike us so vibrantly---I like the idea of someone who existed once as a musical note!
Hope that Phoenix finds the perfect depiction of the Phoenix...I'm finding more delightful stories of beings related to water and air lately. It looks like the interaction of fire and air is perfect in Phoenix tales...maybe some of the cultures that have such gorgeous tales also figure in the background. I once saw a title that had included "...from the land of the Firebird" and thought that was the most gorgeous nickname. The book was actually not what I thought---I was remembering a thick children's book where there were beautiful stories of 'Russian/Slavic' myths. This other book wasn't half as delicious, it was more a history book.
If I get a title, then I'll post. Since China, Russia, (Maya's Thunderbird?) and other cultures have Phoenix-related lore, there's quite a bit for you to explore, should you choose to also focus on mythical tales of many cultures.
Happy flights wherever it leads you.
