I'm lousy with spending time on my spirituality. I'd love to spend a little time each day, reading something divine.
I'd love suggestions on things to read, to get back in touch with my feeling of the divine.
You know the kinds of books- positive, uplifting, connecting, peaceful, life changing, inspiring, humbling, spiritual.
I'm very eclectic in terms of religion, what I wouldn't want is an overly moralistic, you should do this, kind of book. More one that makes me think and re-evaluate my relationship with divine.
Any suggestions? What books do you turn to?

I enjoy Osho's books. They quite philosophical, very wise. Very straight to the point. Speaking of wise, if you want an author a little more light hearted but still serious in thought, consider author Stuart Wilde.
Namaste,
Deborah.

hey butterfly.
After reading your post, I went straight to my bookcase and pulled out Gravity & Grace, by Simone Weil.
I will elaborate later -- gotta run... !

"Zen Flesh, Zen Bones" - Paul Reps.
A collection of Zen "riddles" and lessons - not as weird and torturous as it sounds! I found that it really quieted my mind, rather than make it work overtime! Don't try to figure it out, just read it and let the wisdom and peace wash over you.
I wish I owned a copy - I loaned it from the Library - I know it's for sale at Amazon though...

How about "The Tao of Pooh" by Benjamin Hoff? It's a great book explaining taoism based on Winnie-the-Pooh stories. I loved it and it really got me interested in taoism.

Try going to the science section and looking over the science books written for lay people. Top physicists and biologists can be very spiritual because their studies take them to such great realizations. Any of John Gribbon's wonderful books, and of course Fritz Capra's 'The Tao of Physics'. There are also some written by biologists. You find spirituality in some amazing places.

hi butterfly. I'm back.
okay. Simon Weil. Actually was introduced to her in a "Mysticism" class in college. She is a Christian mystic (with influneces from several sources - Christian, Jewish, Indian, Greek, Hindu) - and has written several works. This book is perhaps the easiest to digest, since it's broken down by section (with titles such as: To Accept the Void, Love, Illusions, Contradiction, etc, etc,) -- and then broken down even more into "bite-sized" thoughts, paragraphs, setences, or phrases. And for good reason -- it could take days for you to understand the depths of her meaning. I've come back to this book, time and time again, for over 5 years now... and each time I see more than I had before. This one is a keeper. :) I don't know if it is what you're looking for --- but I highly reccommend having this around. It makes you think deep thoughts! haha.
good luck.

umm...
Second vote for the Tao of Pooh..
and the Te of Piglet...(is that the right one?)
Also....the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius....I go through phases of checking this in the morning...nice, handy quotations, very spiritual, very humanist, and VERY useful!
and 'The Prophet', by Kahlil Gibran...

I also vote for the Tao of Pooh, and for another book by the author of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Richard Bach. The book is called Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah. It's very thought-provoking. It's also a pretty quick read, so it's easy to read again and again!
Good luck on your search!
Peace,
Melvis

for a really good book on meditation, consider "wherever you go, there you are", by jon kabbat-zinn.
anything by ilyana vansant is also sure to be generally uplifting.
remember leo buscaglia? his stuff is STILL good, and easy to find at any second-hand bookstore. he wrote "living, loving and learning", "the way of the bull", and "bus 9 to paradise", to name just a few of his many good works.
and don't forget dr. seuss! that's not just kid stuff, you know...there's some deep philosophy in there...
