evil spirits

Hello... I would like your input on some things... If good spirits can tap into the Tarot and help us out with our problems, then can't bad spirits tap into it and mislead us and lie to us? And if so, how are we to determine who is who, and what is true adviced and what are lies? thanks Blessings, Rain

I think there's definitely a possibility that evil spirits can interfere with the cards if you let them. I've noticed that a lot of people, myself included, pray or meditate before they do a reading, and burn incense or candles, and take other protective measures. In the end, however, I think it's up to the person reading the cards. If that person's heart is not focused in a positive way, then all their candles can't do a thing. I don't mean to end on a negative note, so let me say that I'm sure no one will end up attracting evil spirits if they don't want to. Smiles, Houklani

Of course, evil spirits can interfere with you with your tarot readings, but you can protect yourself by casting a protective circle.

I am into tarot for 18 years now and until now I have NEVER found an evil spirit in my cards, neither in Kiama's physic board. If you are afraid of evil spirits then you may run the chance to attract them by your fear, just like a person who is afraid of dogs will attrackt them.

I never give myself a tarot reading when i'm down because I know that I always feel bad energy. it's the same with most things. The main thing is to work with your guides!!!!! Seb

I guess I have a bit of a different take on this - when I do a reading, I don't really think that there's a 'spirit' or anything that's guiding me in picking the right cards. What I think I'm doing is just using the cards as a tool to let my conscious mind contact my subconscious mind. I think that there is a lot of information present in your subconscious mind that you're not aware of in your 'waking' state: I read somewhere that you never truly forget anything you learn, as the things you 'can't remember' are still in your subconscious. These subconcious memories are totally inaccessible to your conscious mind except as hunches and dreams - and, I think, through using Tarot/runes etc. So I personally wouldn't be worried about evil spirits making me pull the 'wrong' cards, since I don't think spirits are guiding me in my choice of cards. :) Hope that made sense (Mermaid's pseudo-scientific beliefs on Tarot)

Mermaid: I have been trying to find a concise way of saying just what you said. So my take on this is ... "please see Mermaid's post". I could add though, that I believe that the linear time, future - present - past, is just our limited, finite way of looking at things in our rather primitive human way. And I believe that the future, past and present are all happening at the same time. And this is what helps in tapping into my "subconcious", because my "soul" knows it all already. Catlin and Mermaid said exactly some of the things I would've said!! (Grins) In addition, I just wanted to add that if you protect yourself very well, this will never be a problem for you. If you do a lot of readings at your house, I recommend smudging/blessing at least once a month, or burning protective incense, or black candles to ward off any negativity. Yes, you could cast a Wiccan circle, but that may become tedious if you are used to doing several readings at all different times. Overall smudging with sage anointed with rosemary oil I believe, would be sufficient. Hope this helps...many blessings, Michelle

I'm just a beginner, but I am kinda scared of my Cards and negative forces it might bring. I can't seem to get rid of that fear somehow!!

Rose, I'm interested to know your background.... Why are you so scared of negative forces? I know that a lot of Christian churches look down on dabbling in spiritual things. I've faced quite a bit of mistrust myself. Would you care to talk about it? I have been able to trust my cards in my own way, and I might be able to offer you some guidance if you are willing. Well Funny how the tarot cards have a Devil Card so yes your dealing with evil spirits. Just accept the fact that you dont mind consorting with them and you are a witch. On another note, oh sweetheart, the tarot cards are a manifestation of your higher self. The symbols are the unconscious (sp) communicating with the conscious (sp) through symbols and colors.

Just accept the fact that you dont mind consorting with them and you are a witch. i totally disagree with you meatbox. you are only dealing with evil spirits if that's the energy that you call in when you work with your cards. personally, i ground myself, wrap protections around myself and ask that i am protected, body, mind and spirit, during the reading. i don't read with the cards reversed, instead i allow the cards to speak thru upright cards only. the devil card represents many different things, but among them is temptation and let's face it, temptation can be very good. being tempted to put in an application for a new position at your workplace, being tempted to ask that great new man/woman you just met, out on a date............things are only negative if that's the way you interpret them. and someone is not a witch just because they visit this forum. many people aren't. but then, many are :D in light, jade

Thanks for the humorus spin because people are going to get their panties all in a twist over my post. People, its just my opinon okay, really. Im not trying to step on your necks. Just disagree if you do and say why.

in faeirie lin's defense, i think that she did a search to pull up postings that contained "evil" and "spirits" thus those words are highlighted in everyone's posts, not just hers. she is a very positive and loving person. i think this thread is quite interesting. i'm still not sure what i even believe about "evil" spirits, so i hope more people write into this thread. i myself grew up christian, and many people pounded into my head the presence of evil spirits everywhere. as a child i always felt spirits, but was constantly afraid because of the "evil" implication, even if they were only ghosts. i do believe good spirits help us, a friend of mine saw a spirit come into the room right when i started doing a reading for someone, so i believe i have a spirit helper for readings. but i'm not sure i know what to believe about evil spirts. i believe in negative energy, and spirits that are mischevious. i would like some more discussion on this. and i'm grateful we are all able to share our opinions and concerns for one another. thanks everyone for being open and loving.

I would like touse the bible as a reference to evil spirits. I like the bible it has great things in it and the things therein are amazing. Here is what i gathered in regards to evil spirits fromthe bible Luke 7:21 And in the same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits, and unto many that were blind he gave sight. Luke 8:2 And certain women which have been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdelene, out of whom went seven devils Acts 19:12 And so that from his body brouth unto the sick hankercheifs and aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. Acts 19:13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, excorsists, took upon them tocall over them which had evil spirits, then name of the Lord Jesus. Well, aside from that, I believe in evilspirits.

Thanks for posting that Meatbox, it was interesting! I don't think we can take Bible quotes as 'proof' of the existance of evil spirits, though, for a couple of reasons. (Excuse me in advance if that's not what you were trying to do! :)) For one thing, lots of people don't believe that what the Bible says is neccessarily true. For another, even if the things written in the Bible did happen, the Bible was written by the early Christians (not Jesus himself!) and people then often believed that sickness was the work of demons. So if Jesus had healed someone from a normal sickness like TB or AIDS, the people who saw it still would have told the story as : "Jesus healed them from demons"... Blessings!
