On a science forum in Australia recently they had a question from someone who wanted to know if the full moon had any effect on humans. The answer they received from the 'scientist at the forum' was an unequivical NO!!. He said science had no proof that the full moon affected humans in anyway. This answer is just a narrow minded piece of crap as far as I'm concerned. What proof do scientists need? it's a known fact that hospital casualty depts have an increase of patients on a full moon night. And the effect it has on womens mentral cycle.......What proof do they need? it's like trying to prove if there's a God by science? You can't! But look around and be aware and you'll see that God/Goddess/Universe shows it's existense in every way.

I'm one that pays attention to the phases of the moon. The moon is a beautiful thing. Ever since I was little, I always had to make sure I could see the moon (when It was viewable) in my window as I prayed. I do spellwork and I believe without a doubt that the phases of the moon have an effect on whats going on here with us on Earth.
The moon is a GREAT subject to talk about, thanx Musicman!!!

i work in an adult day care center with people who have demensia and altzheimers'. there is DEFINITELY an effect with the full AND new moons. people are more restless and tend to try to wander about more; some become VERY agitated.
even the ones who spend most their day in some other world will interact with the "real" world...

Musicman: don't come down too hard on the scientist. I mean, if he's a scientist, he's got a certain way of looking at things. And actually, from a scientific point of view, there is probably no proof of the moon's influence.
Like there's no scientific proof that Tarot works.
Not yet, anyway.
The scientists do their work, we do ours, and one day the two paths will meet. Be patient. It's not so long ago that people were being executed for saying that the earth was not the center of the world.

Poor old scientists. I studied Experimental Psychology at college - and I've been very much struck by how UNscientific scientists can be. It's such a competitive world, with such fighting for funding that it's become necessary to constantly debunk everyone elses work in order to advance your own, instead of viewing it all as advancement towards the same goal. So few people seem to see that it's just as flawed to discard an idea out of hand as to accept it without critical thought.
The effect of the moon on the psyche has not yet been scientifically proven, but it hasn't been disproven yet either :)
And I'm pretty sure which way the evidence will eventually point. My mother turns into a completely different person every full moon, much less in control, much more emotional. As for the obvious explanation, she ahd a full hysterectomy (ovaries and all) 10 years ago.....

The moon definitely affects me. I, too, become very agitated, restless, etc. I also had a hysterectomy, but kept my ovaries, and I still feel sort of a PMS mood when the moon is becoming full. My husband must think I'm a "lunatic," but I hope after 21 years he's just gotten used to me. :) Also, barn burnings in my rural area increase around the full moon (thankfully, there haven't been any barn burnings in a long time). Some things you just know, no matter what science says about it!

I once heard a scientist argue that yes, the Full Moon does affect us... is argument was the traditional: Our bodies are made up of 80% water, and since the Moon controls the tides etc, it also controls our bodily water...
That is the one I've always gone by.. Men, who do not have menstrual cycles, it seems to me do get 'PMS' symptoms at certain times of the month, according to the moon pahse....

As far as I know, the mass of water in our bodies is too small to really be affected by the moon's gravity. (The sea is only affected this way because it's so humungous - try leaving a bowl of water on your windowsill for a month & I can promise you that you won't see any tides in it because it's just too small! Same with our bodies.)
However, I've heard of cases where doctors got women with irregular cycles to sleep under a lamp that simulated the differing light over the course of a moon cycles and - hey presto - their cycles went back to regular. :) So it seems likely that what affects people is the actual light of the moon, not it's gravity.
Musicman - don't be too hard on the poor scientist. Any scientist that claimed something was scientific fact on a national TV programme and then couldn't back it up would quickly find that their career was over!

I also cling to the idea that men are affected by the moon, be it full or new. There are statistics which list an increase of violence and crime around full moon.

I for one dont need a scientist to confirm for me how I /friends/family feel around a full moon or a new moon some months. I dont believe either that only woman are affected, it can be a very emotional, sometimes tense time for both sexes . I have a friend who will sometimes say "What IS wrong with me, there isnt a reason to feel like this" and on further investigation we will be in a potent moon phase . Wiccan rituals are best carried out in different phases of the moon, for diff purposes , banishing etc. I dont need a scientist to confirm thats ok for me to do the ritual at that time.
I didnt think Musicman was really being too critical of scientists, I know the site he is speaking of, and a lot of the answers given are opinion and not based on facts. Its a very narrow minded community and I have seen ppl humiliated by asking such questions there.
I am always releived to find that my emotional state is being influenced by the phase of the moon and it will pass, it seems to be a time when things can be sorted out with others because emotions are so close to the surface, and at other times it is easier to hide them or ignore them.
In my house the moon is spoken of like a relative who keeps coming back and doing things that get our attention , confuse us, or annoy us and then we realise whats going on , feel relieved , usually laugh and plan what we can do to put a sheet over the moon, ( it never works)and say "Oh its nearly a full moon" thank goodness for that, mystery solved.
