Hi,
I have been interested in Jung's work for over ten years now to the extent that it made a huge impact on me spiritually and changed the way I have thought about life, God etc since. especially in regards to his view on the 'shadow' side of life and 'evil' as part of life itself. Just wanted to know if anybody else here is into Jung and if or what kind of effect he has had on their spirituality and life.
Blessed be

Hi Musicman,
I've just started delving into Jung. I think it will give me some more ideas about the psychological use of tarot.

Hi
Jung wrote some stuff on the importance of the tarot and its connection with the unconscious. It will help you understand and appreciate the tarot even more. Enjoy. He was a pioneer when it came to delving into the depths and darkness of the pysche and unconscious.
blessed be

From a Melbourne dweller to another, greetings Musicman.
With regards to Jung, there are two threads which specifically deal with this in the past, and which you may be interested in adding to.
This thread contains a link to the previous in one of my replies.
With regards to your comment that Jung wrote 'some stuff on the importance of the tarot and its connection with the unconscious', I am not personally aware of any, outside of more generalities, which are discussed in those threads. With regards to the unpublished 'notes' mentioned in the thread connected above, I now have those, and there is nothing of significance in them, other than describing (quite briefly) the Marteau-Grimaud version of the Marseilles deck.
If you have further references, they would be welcome.

hello jmd,
may I say I'm quite impressed with your excellent knowledge and information on Jung. i checked out the previous posts and you even quote actual paragraphs. Very informative. I'm sorry, but I have to admit that you are indeed correct in regards to Jung's comments on tarot. Mine are from alot of 'second-hand' accounts of Jung's views on tarot. Off the top of my head I can't remember the exact books, but most bio's and books about Jung mention this though they do go in detail more about his views on the I Ching which was a precursor for his study into the tarot. There's a book on Jung and Tarot specially available, I'm not sure if it's the same one mentioned in the previous post, but I know reading one years ago, really set the record straight, supposedly about the tarot's importance in Jung's life.
Glad to hear there is another fello melbournian on this forum. nice to meet you and welcome.
blessed be,
joe

Hi Musicman,
Guess you are talking about the book by Salli Nichols, "Jung and Tarot", I have read this one some time ago but I found it a bit tiresome to read as I missed a bit the "red thread", there were too many jumps.

I think its most important to realize that Jung took Freud's work in the unconscious and made it more palatable and human. Freud, although the pioneer in psychotherapy, made the unconscious seem so unpleasant. Jung took SF's research and writings and just flew with it. I think his background as an anthropologist had much to do with his passion to delve into the validity of the dream and all manner of unconscious expression, including the tarot. His research was more sociological, spiritual and cultural than scientific, I feel.
I still have yet to read "Jung and the Tarot". Currently, I'm going through "Dreams".

Ahhh Jung...my mom is a faithful Jungian. She particularly likes his work with dreams. So I guess you could say my sister & I have "grown up with Jung", although I would never profess to be a Jungian myself.
I haven't heard of "Jung & Tarot" before...I'll have to check it out.

And now I'm going to try to find that tarot book mentioned in a previous post to this thread. I loved his views on dreams and I've read books about a lot of his psychological studies. Some of the books out there about him are hard to get into because some of them are so clinical etc.
But thank you for piqueing my interest on Jung and the tarot; I didn't know that about him. Ah, we learn new things everyday eh?
Many blessings, Michelle
