i am starting one, here in my little town and i was wondering if anyone who has participated in one would like to post their suggestions. good, bad and ugly heehee

i would love to know what you enjoyed the most, what you didn't like about the one(s) you attended and if you had to donate, pay etc and how much.

in other words, all the info you feel comfy sharing would be greatly appreciated.

in light,

Hi, Jade!

I joined one last year and we did pay - £5 per time. That seems to be about the norm here - that circle closed after a few months due to the ill health of the teacher and I'm joining another one starting in about 3 weeks' time which will be run by the local spiritualist church which is also charging £5 per week, though they claim that's because the hall we're using will have to be rented. Coffee and biccies were provided at no extra cost!

Ours meets during the school year since there is too much going on in the summer months with people's kids being home more and stuff. My suggestions to you are to start off small and you may want to limit the number of people in case your group grows fast (once you get several people it is sometimes difficult to get down to business due to latecomers and people visiting). We didn't pay, but each member of the group would present a topic of study each time we met which was bi-monthly. Topics ranged from meditation, Reiki, herbal medicines, tarot study, runes, other methods of divination, light religious talk (although this can become a heated debate/sticky subject quick), study of Roman/Greek/Egyptian gods and goddesses, etc. We always held our groups in the leader's home because it was a good central meeting place. We all also brought an item of refreshment to each meeting to share with everyone.

Your first meeting you just may want to lay some ground rules; we encountered some problems with non-smokers not wanting smoking people around etc. that should have been addressed at the start and we ended up losing a couple of people over it. Also you may want to address how many "guests" members can bring if you want them to bring any.

You also may want to discuss exactly what everyone wants out of the meetings themselves. As well as times and set times that people know they need to leave the host's home by. You may also want to discuss whether or not alcohol will be allowed etc...whether or not children will be welcome...etc. I am just trying to think of all the things our group dealt with in the beginning.

We would start our groups out with light conversations, then play "games" such as billets, ESP cards, basic tarot readings, etc. Then we would get down to business and have the "presentation" then discuss whatever topic was on for that night.

Hope this helps...let me know if you have any other questions.

Blessings, Michelle

I don't know if what I attend is neccesarily what you have in mind, jade.. but here's what we do:

We have a monthly "Sacred Circle" meeting. Only women attend. We all go to the local occult book shop (the owner hosts the circle) and we are cleansed with sage before we enter. We cast the circle and then our host tells us about the Talking Stick. The Talking Stick is then past to the person who called the East quarter and we begin. The Talking Stick is cleansed with a feather before it is passed to the next person. Every woman gets to speak and all others are quiet. We can speak about whatever is on our minds as long as it is not hurtful to others who are present.

Alot of energy is raised during these sessions and they are often tearful. At the end of the night we take the energy that is raised and send it to people we know who are in need. And then return the energy to the earch. We close the circle and then we all sort of chat for a while together.

The women there are all so wonderful and amazing. Some of their stories are heartbreaking. I always feel so wonderful afterwards. It's such a beautiful powerful thing.

Rhiannon :)

edited to add: I forgot to say that it's free. You just call to say you'll attend.

i am sooo sorry that i missed this conversation. i was gone for a few days last week.

wow, what great suggestions. i didn't want to charge and the 'pot luck' type of atmosphere sounds good (just with little refreshments). i'll give them a choice as to whether they want me to get stuff for the meeting or if they want to bring it themselves.

i like both ideas.........having a supportive time whenever needed by a member and a learning time also.

any other suggestions you think of, please mention them cause i'm starting this in september, even though my guides are bugging me to start it now, i think that over the summer is a silly time to start something. :D

love and light,
jade

ps that being said, i'm sure my guides will 'teach me a lesson' for that response LOL

Could someone explain what a psychic circle is? Is it like a coven, or more like a healing group, or like a social club? I've never heard the term before!

Mermaid: Our little circle/group is really just like a New Age study group. We do things pertaining mainly to the metaphysical but our group is pretty open to everyone. It isn't a coven because not all our members are involved in the Craft/Wicca whatever. We do have some Christians in our group who read tarot etc. and so being, it is really more like a metaphysical study group.

Blessings to all, Michelle

I've been involved in a couple of circles over the years.

The first one was free and was part of a spiritualist church. We met once a week and meditated together. Some developed mediumship. It was guided by a gifted medium who set up the group and taught us about protection.

The second one was recent and it was $10 (Aust) per session. We had a guided meditation, then discussed a topic each week, like crystals, healing, chakras, spirit drawings, tarot etc. I learnt a lot at this one.

Some of you may recall my thread about my tarot circle (hope the thread is still somewhere around so you can check what I encountered there).

I can only recommend that you create a kind of "plan" or outline what do you expect from your circle and make clear what ppl won't get. This will save a lot of trouble and misunderstandings.
