Psychic fair

I went to a local psychic fair this weekend and got some readings. I was really pleased with what I heard, especially because three readers agreed on most of the big details. All three said that in a couple of months I'll be meeting someone -- and their descriptions of him were all the same. Unfortunately the career advice wasn't as concrete, but the money problems should be improving soon.

How often do you all find psychics to be correct?

catlin  17 Jun 2002
I don't go to pysics, just have a now and then reading from 2 friends with normal playing cards.

Kaz  17 Jun 2002
to tell you the truth, i have never been at one. if such a thing ever happens to be here i will have a look around out of curiosity.

The nice thing about the psychic fairs near me is that the readings are inexpensive (although short). This is the only time I can afford to see psychics.

Phoenix  18 Jun 2002
I wish there was a psychic fair near me!

Kellinator  18 Jun 2002
Phoenix, you might want to try inquiring at metaphysical shops near you. They may know something.

There are at least 2 pysic fairs here around every year but they are a real rip-off: you'll pay 8 € and the only stuff you see is one palm reader lined up to the next, computer printed horoscopes and crap like that. Nothing interesting, not even a stall with good books not to mention tarot decks.

I only went there once and hoped to find some interesting books, stones, etc. but nope.

I've been to a three psychic fairs in Toronto over ten years at very large venues: sky dome, convention centre, etc. There are healers, readers, kirlian photographers, books, and suppliers of oils, herbs and crystals. I have found the readers, for the most part, very good: sincere, accurate, responsible, and the pricing in keeping with what I can afford: usually $40.00 Cdn. for 20 minutes and a cassette recording of the reading to take away. The readers find the "circus" environment challenging for concentration but I personally feel quite a sense of positive energy eminating from all the readers and healers being in the same room. As a visitor I've been told my aura glows as I walk along in this pyschic bazaar. Selecting a reader in such venues is a little bit odd. One strolls the aisles until one comes across a reader whom one wants. I select my reader(s) according to a sense of energy I get from them. I usually get only two readings and then browse through the array of books, oils, crystals, etc. There are computer generated horoscopes done as well but in a venue where there are live readers I don't see the point. The readers come mainly from Canada and The U.S.A. If you are ever in Toronto where the Psychic Fair comes to town I would highly recommend it.
Namaste,
Debins.

At the psychic fair they have in our area every year the psychic society that sponsors the fair has strict guidelines for their readers, plus they have free printed bios for each psychic that reads there. They each are interviewed and then the top ones are selected by the psychic society...so you may want to ask at the door if that particular fair has printed bios etc.

I have had psychics read for me but they are members of my psychic circle and have been very accurate in the past.

Many blessings, Michelle

I've had cards read by local Psychic Readers. I really suggest finding someone in your area. It give you a neighborly feel. In my opinion, feeling close or comfortable with the reader can be important, especially when your getting a reading face to face and having to deal with the results right there in front of them.

I remember i started crying. I was hurting pretty bad, and what she was telling me was part what i should have known and part what i didn't want to happen. And the resdent (and flat faced) cat at that store came and crawled onto my lap and comforted me. It was quite the experience.

I reccomend finding local people. I can't imagine having that experience in a huge auditorum full of people and no ugly cat to comfort me and get me all harry :)

A lot of the vendors are weeded out by the prices they have to pay for their booth space--the smaller ones can't often handle a $45 fee for a table if they know they'll only be making around $20 or so on their items. If the table fee is higher, it weeds out even more of them.

I've attended several in our area, and did two as a vendor. I watched the 'shopping' being done & the purchases were all at the lower end of the money scale, only things under $10 were moving--even though there were some NICE things there for sale at under $50. The crowd that came were only focused on the readings, and would get one or two of those & just eyeball the vendor area.

Seems the readers made the most money. The ones I've been to all had the readers getting half the $20 price of a reading on each customer, the other half went to the promoter of the event. Readings were limited to 15 minutes only.

I did have one reading done on me, she was fairly bang on with some things, but it got too diffuse at the end to do me any good as guidance. She started out using Soul Cards, then went into an 'intuitive' reading asking for info from her spirit guide. He unfortunately couldn't be pinned down enough to get me an answer on what I wanted to know. Though what she told me on the part I DID know was very specific. It was frustrating.

I have worked at quite a few fairs but now find that the price if a pitch is too excessive. What was a few years ago..£50 per day ...is now £ 150...it is impossible to make a buck...So the client suffers...10 minuite readings at £15 a go... I feel that people loose out and are short changed....So I don't go anymore... I give my clients an hour minimum...so i work from a therapy centre now :TFOOL

i went to a psychic fair this weekend. HA!!!
what a waste!!!! (charletons, my friend called them)
we drove an hour and a half to get to this hotel.
we were expecting booths and booths of psychics, healers, palm readers, decks for sale, aura readings.

here is this little room with 7 people in it, all selling candles and incense. they pounced on us as soon as we came in (there was only 1 person in there getting a reading) and it was like walking into a room of starving vampires!!

so we drove all the way home and went to our local new age bookstore and had very accurate readings from our local reader.

on the other hand, i've also gone to a psychic an hour away, who read your vibrations. she would have you sign the back of her business card, and just held it in her hands and went to town on you. she was always SPOT ON!!!

so you never know. chances are, most of us here would do better than the majority of readers out at these shows.

LOL, Sorceress Jade. I had a similar experience. I have never been to psychic fair, but have found a local psychic -- and in the middle of a hard-hitting relationship talk... her hairy, ugly and FLAT FACED cat jumped up on my lap and settled down. haha.

yah. I totally reccomend finding a local person you can build a relationship with. I've only gone to this woman twice in about three years -- but I plan on returning when I have the need for a psychic "tune-up."

(btw, if anyone is in the Philly area and looking for a talented psychic, I highly reccommend this woman. if you're interested, email me and I'll tell you her name and stuff. Don't worry, I'm not doing promotion, but just thought I'd put it out there.)

the readings that i had at psychic fairs were really good. the store had thoroughly checked the readers out and gave out bios. the first one i had just made me cry. i can't even remember what she said. she asked me to wait for her to finish the fair and then she came to the bookstore where i was waiting and talked to me some more free of charge. she made some healing recommendations that i still use today. one is a tape of native american pipe. the other was the jamie sams medicine cards. they still have a real sentimental flavor for me to this day.

the other reading i had was also on target. after she read for me i read for her. i wanted her opinion if i was good enough to read professionally. i was fortunate that she wasn't threatened by me. after a few minutes she started taking notes. when i finished she told me i was very accurate. it was a very meaningful experience. i probably got more out of her postive reinforcement than the reading. :)

I plan on going to the local Bastille Days festival coming up next week, they have a tent (open sided) with about 8 readers there every year.

Does anyone want me to ask the readers anything? I mean about DOING readings in public, that is. About style, technique, decks, etc. Usually I chat with them when it's really slow & I was curious about how they got into reading for the public.

Royal Cat  01 Oct 2002
I went to my first "Psychic fair" over the weekend and I had a reading done while there. This was the first *paid* tarot reading that I've ever had and I left feeling under-impressed. It could've just been an "off" reading for the guy or perhaps he wasn't the best reader for me/my situation... but regardless, I left feeling like I could've done it better. Now my husband is saying to me "You're good. Why don't you get a table at the next one that comes to our area?"

So... I've read all the forum messages on this topic I could find. I'm not sure yet if I actually want to give it a try or not... But, I'm just wondering what kinds of advice you have to offer. To those of you who have done this: what do you do to prepare? do you charge for a certain amount of time - or by the # of cards in the spread? how do you collect the money? Do you offer any 'extra's' (taped readings, written notes, free gift, etc.)?

There's a local metaphysical fair this Saturday. I'm not planning to get any readings (generally too expensive, and I don't know the readers) but I'll observe and let you all know how it goes.
