I've heard people say that a woman is at her most psychic when she's on her period. However, I don't find that to be the case, in fact I feel less in touch with that part of my self when I'm on my period. I'm in all sorts of physical dyscomfort and my emotions are being ruled by hormones. So my question is: Is there anyone that finds her period to bring about heightened psychic abilities when she's on her period, or is what I've heard just fiction?

All I feel is bloated, sleepy and cranky during my period. :)
I'm at my most psychic/intuitive when I'm well rested and have an empty stomache but not hungry. Being in the woods or the beach or the mountains, away from the distractions of traffic, air pollution and electrical wires sure doesn't hurt.

I heard you were more receptive to just about everything when you are ovulating...or about a week before your period. You memory is better, your concentration and all 5 (or 6 in some people's cases) of your senses are more receptive. I read that somewhere.

i think native american women stayed in the "moon lodge" during their cycle where they were waited on by others. they stayed there to rest and meditate. wouldn't it be wonderful if women today had the luxury of a moonlodge? just think! a week a month just to focus on yourself and take care of your needs w/ no or little interference from others.
to add to this, i've often heard that some ppl get more psychic if the moon is full. i've heard something somewhere about women's body cycles corresponding w/ the cycles of the moon. i believe that periods reputedly occurred during the full moon--a time when many become more psychic.
i know my irritability factor rises w/ my hormones. i'm usually pretty quiet so if i get fussy or start complaining hubby often doesn't have to be told. now if i retreated to a moonlodge at the time i felt my irritability increase, my irritability might be soothed and comforted into enhanced psychic ability b/c i am so sensitive at this time. no husband or family demands. no housework. no cooking. i'm pretty sure i'd be happier and more relaxed b/c i'd spent that time quietly studying my books and decks.
it's a nice theory to test one day. i wonder how many women could get off prozac if they just had a week every month at the moonlodge.

hmmmm, i'm wondering about your wording.........it stood out sooo strongly for me.
you said, you were "on" your period. like it's a place you visit rather than a part of your being.
don't know why i'm sharing this, i just feel i need to.
hmmmm,

I would desparately love a "Moon lodge" to go to, think of the effect it would have on society as a whole.
I've never thought about what I'm like during periods psychically. I just know that I am irritable and I take time out to rest if I can.

I am much more intuitive and give better readings. But I feel like crap, and almost like I'm in a different consciousness.

Hm, I was pretty astonished to read all your posts. Most of you really seem to have a problem when you are menstruating. I am not soo keen on that too, but I have found out methods to diminish PMS:
- reduce salt in your food.
- wear a haematite necklace or bracelet (reduces bloodflow but adds iron).
- drink special "Woman's infusion" , this is an herb infusion with soothing and calming herbs especially for women.
- be gentle to yourself, eg create your own mental "Moon Lodge".
Hope this helps a bit.

Hmm gee, have not remembered any dreams lately, OH but I had a vivid intense one this morning, him pretty big moon out there....excuse me for a minute, I gotta go do something *luna goes down the hall into the bathroom*
yes truthsayer, they did get to go into the Moon lodge, and yes it sure would be NICE!!! many great visions came while in the Moon lodge. I believe that a full moon and menstruating are connected. I believe this not because I read it some place but because I noticed it personally. I have a book that says that.."In thedark of the moon, as we begin our bleeding...." this comes from 'Buffalo Woman Comes Singing' by Brook Medicine Eagle. She says that if we sleep where the moon can shine upon us (with out interfearance of city lights)we will become in sync with the moon. This I agree with, for I have noticed a change in my cycles when influenced by light or new female roommate. If we bleed during a full moon (as I do), then we ovulate during a new moon, now...all of my children where concieved during a full moon, so I was fertile during a full moon according to brook, I would be in tune, Is that why I got pregnant?(well, besides the 'other';)
but you say, if you have your period during a full moon how did you get pregnant during a full moon? I noticed a pattern, about every 2 years, my cycle would speed up or slow down and would basically flip around. It would be that way for about 3 or four months and then slowly get back to 'normal?'
question is, if brook says(and I am searching for other refrences, cuz I with you gals on this one!)
that we are to bleed in the dark, then when I got pregnant, I was in tune. BUT she also says that with the moons light we will become in tune, I SEE HER RIGHT NOW!!(and guess what?) I have no city lights, just pure moonlite. Sorry did I get off the subject here?
ok, to answer your Q, I have not payed attention to when I feel more receptive vs. my cycle throw in the moon, so going by what has happed from 7:00am monday morning til now 3:40am wednesday... YA.

hi. YES. I most certainly do feel more sensitive during my period. Some months it's more intense than others.... and I think that's because I more often than not try to dull it -- and also it corresponds to my diet/caffiene intake/etc. ... but the only way I can describe it... and this sounds a little weird -- but feeling like a baby kitten, raw and bleeding. The intake of vibrations can be almost overwhelming. .... but that is only if I am really "in touch" with myself during my period. (haha. not litterally.) I guess what I'm saying is yes, I can notice a difference in my intuition, etc.... but I more often than not don't allow it to get to that point... cause, hey, I can't retreat to a Moon Lodge to hone my abilities -- I gotta deal with everyday crap.

hi all,
before i went on the pill, i knew when i ovulated and etc...it was usually came around the full moon. talk about overly sensitive and emotional!! depending on the weather. i didn't sleep well because of the hormonal iimbalance just before it and more psychic...don't think so. i think i was more open to the influences of emotions. i've read somewhere that it's time of most vulnerability to the forces of the universe and that's why the moonlodge for the native americans and why wiccans don't perform magick during the menses, they too seclude themselves..wish we could do that in today's society. they have little control over the powers surrounding their craft.

Jade, not sure where your from, or where Sharon is from either, but round here (in California) that’s the most common way to say it. What the way you put it? I usually say ‘on my rag’ which in all honesty is a bit graphic but is less clinically icky, you know.
Catlin, I love your ideas and definitely am now on the lookout for this herbal infusion. Unfortunately my BF doesn’t understand that I just want to be left alone when I’m on my rag. But he I guess has reason to not understand.

lunalafey, the book "hawk woman dancing with the moon", by tela star hawk lake, also discusses this issue. she speaks of our "moon time" as being a time of great power. both in a positive and negative way. as we release our negativity we also draw up power from the earth.
yeah, our periods are a nuisance. but i've begun to look at mine as a time of power. a time when we are reminded of our ties to the earth and her cycles.

Hm, I like the idea of a moonlodge! ;)
Better be careful though with the subject of this thread: before you know it, manufacturers of sanitary towels will start creating commercials telling us we'll be more psychic just by using their products, the way they are now telling us that you feel like sky-diving during your period as long as you use their product... :D

here on bainbridge island, we're blessed to have a moon lodge. it's a little yurt in the woods on a piece of land owned by a wise woman... dream come true. the structure of my life doesn't allow for taking a whole week of seclusion, but i try to take some time for myself each cycle.
i don't seem to be more sensitive when i'm bleeding or when i'm ovulating. i was keeping really detailed cycle charts for a while, and one of the things i was watching was creative bursts -- you know, those days when you feel like your brain is overflowing with ideas...! i didn't notice much of a pattern there, either. oh well. i do get a dip in mood (and a rise in irritability, according to my boyfriend), and also i get extreeeemly horny. :)

LOL Tarotlady. Feel like skydiving? I mostly just feel like curling up and sleeping for a few days, only waking up to drink herbal teas and have my back rubbed gently! Must be because I use non-disposable sanitary wear ... ;)
PS - Joya! I can relate to your kitten, not at all weird.

I feel most sensitive the week before my period, not during. Also, I've read that it has been shown that women's menstrual cycles will tend to coincide over time when women are grouped together. Ever notice how offices will suddenly have an 'outbreak' of pregnancies? I believe this is a form of this phenomenon, when women ovulate and then conceive at about the same time.
Also, there is a women-only Yahoo Group that has a moon-lodge premise. I'll try to find it again, if anyone is interested. I can't remember the name right now.
**Well, I did find it; its name is...."Moon Lodge"
(slaps forehead). Here is the link:

I'm really amazed why they keep making these commercials like that, I don't think there's one woman who doesn't think they're ridiculous...

Hehehe, I can so understand that... I get a little bit more creative, moody and irritable, and a lot bit more horny...but for me it's worse before the actual period and it's ok during the period and disappears after the period is over.

I don't feel more in tune with my senses when I'm on my period.. my periods are very painful tho, the only thing I want to do is sleep and rest.
I feel more active the week before my period, Since I've been off the pill, I can also tell when I ovulate because there will be a slight pain on one side for most of the day, about 2 weeks before my period.
I love the Moon Lodge idea! That would be wonderful.
Yeah I believe that close friends and sisters are in sync, because my sister and I have our periods at about the same time. I feel sorry for my brother and my father... well not really! hehehe
ack I'm babbling... sorry! :)

Ooooh a moon lodge!
How lovely!
I want one, but everyone would pile in with me!!! lol
Is it written anywhere, what herbs were they burning there?
And as far as terms for the subject goes, most people around here say, "on the rag"
I say, "It's my week".

since we are on the subject of periods, do any of you have menstrual migraines both before or during? i was put on a birth control pill called mircette that has really helped the migraines until recently. this month i've had 5 break thru migraines. that's more than i've had in a month since i started mircette. 2 factors have changed. one is that i changed to the generic form of mircette but the pharmacist swears the chemicals are identical. hhmmm, we'll see. the other is that another medication was added. but this med has nothing to do w/ headaches or hormones so it seems unlikely.
does any of this sound familiar w/ any of you? i take imitrex for migraines but i'm not happy w/ this med b/c of the potential risk of stroke. i hesistate to take anything herbal--just b/c it's "natural" doesn't make it any better than other meds. at least i cam deal w/ the side effects of what i'm on--i don't care for throwing the baby out w/ the bath water.i've read that increasing soy to your diet will help hormonal flunctuations but i have a food intolerance to soy so that's out.
any ideas or do you have similar difficulties?

for me it was hormonal and i get them occassionally in the same area just before my period now...on yasmin for pmdd which a Goddess-send. i was evil. i think now migraines come on cuz of the weather..hazy, hot and HUMID make my pressure go up and i sweat more. so what i've done is increase water, decrease the salt, take v-c and a combo of ibrofine and tyelnol..need the pain relief and anti-inflammatory! oh yeah, allergies brought my last one on.
it was worse when i wasn't on the pill. i wouldn't get them every month but when they came watch out. my temples were very tender and felt like my brain was leaking thru my ears. imitrex w/the birth control doesn't make a could combo. i've done a little research..it might ahve something to do w/the chemical imbalance from the hormones and the (i think) calcium, magnesium in the brain. soemthing to do w/neurotransmitters or is calcium and potassium..can't remember it was last year but in the middle of a heatwave like we're having now.
so since you don't want to compromise your system any futher i would suggest trying ice compresses at the forehead and base of head. keep the environment quiet and keep breathing. drink alot of water, go to as many nonprocessed foods as possible (detox your body but eat) and just remember this to shall pass. i know it hurts..lots of sleep helps me the most..i feel better for about 2 hrs after waking up but then the pain...maybe taking a calcium/magnesium zinc combo supplement might help too?
good luck and let us know how you're doing...

I've always felt that such might be so and once, quite a number of years ago, I tried to test what I thought was a unique power by imposing a sense of overwhelming femininity on a man. No joke! What I did was think of a poweful force emanating from my womb with the purpose of making myself attractive to him, of course. (What else would I be upt to??) Well, it worked magnificently and I was quite amused. The man behaved as if helpless in my hands. It was kind of fun, but that's not the way to treat another person. I must admit that I felt I had done something wrong and decided to pull back "my intention" and the influence cooled down. But I did prove something, I suppose, but I'm not sure what. It was very, very fascinating, though. For whatever it's worth, you have one case study.
Namaste,
Debins.

purple goddess,
you have no idea how much i appreciate your post. you've given me some ideas on what might be wrong. what a blessing!! the heat here has been barely tolerable and we don't have central air. i drink a lot of fluids but i really crave salt and chocolate, too. i've also noticed during a migraine i have frequent urination. i thought when i noticed the frequency that something might be wrong w/ my BP that was causing my kidneys to excrete extra water. today when i started feeling badly, i drank some gatorade to get my electrolytes up. i actually felt like functioning after the gatorade. so maybe part of the problem is even tho i'm drinking fluids it's not enough b/c of the salt craving.
okay, i'm going to bite the bullet and give up salt as a trial. i think i've also been drinking too many soft drinks and that's been dehydrating. i'm also going to get some extra gatorade b/c that seem to give me some pep. vitamins don't really worry me like some other herbs. i haven't taken my calcium, iron and Bcomplex in a while. i don't know if i have any magnesium in the house but maybe it's in a multi-vitamin i already have. i'm going to try these things w/ what you said in mind. i never made the correlation w/ the heat but it makes sense. i've really been irritable since the heat started but that's also when the migraines started. extra sleep helps me, too.
i'm going to look into yasmine. i don't know anything about it but i can do some web searches. there has to be a safer way than imitrex. it's interesting but my migraines are always in the same place, too. i've read that the blood vessels that are prone to migraine are the ones most likely to be involved in a stroke. to me when i take imitrex i might as well took a hit of speed or strong caffeinated coffee. i tend to crave caffeinated drink during a migraine b/c the caffeine does seem to help.
anyhow, thanks again purple goddess. i feel off my stuck spot and i can try a new direction now. since your migraines are so much like mine, do you mind if i touch bases w/ you occasionally to compare notes? (((purplegoddess)))

I don't feel weak or disoriented... vitamins and regular exercise? :D
OR probably because I was taught that during a woman's period (especially if it occurs during a Full or New Moon), she is said to be far more powerful than during any other time of the month - as long as she acknowledges this strength. Otherwise, it'll be just another "period" of physical discomfort. :)

I have wicked bad PMS, always have, with all it's glorious symptoms - both physical and UMS (ugly mood swings). I've tried quite a few remedies, natural and non, and they all helped - but only for a while. I finally quit smoking and got to go back on the pill (yay)which is about the only thing that ever reduced all of them long-term.
I do feel my creativity and intuition get stronger right before, sort of a gift for how full and sensitive I am, I guess. Oddly enough I notice both my sense of smell and my hearing seem much sharper. (which can be both kind of cool, and rather dreadful, depending :))

Does anyone else here suffer from endometriosis? This is a big problem for me. Lately, it's been getting worse. I already had laproscopy done, and the Dr told me she couldn't get it all. The pill didn't help, unfortunately. Sometimes it seems like I'm on two different cycles. I'll bleed once in the dark of the moon, then after the full moon I get another cycle, cramps, the whole works. Both of these flows are extremely heavy. The Dr also said there's nothing they can do. So, lucky me. I do think I'm more psychic, and intuitive at these times. I'm also pissed off, bloated, depressed, and just wish I could go three weeks in a row without it.
