This is what I posted int the ways to use reiki thread:
I've read that some where, and it makes sense if you think of it. The Chakras follow the glandular system, and in men, this would be the testicles. In women, the sexual glands would be the ovaries. Anatomically speaking, the qovaies are higher than the testicles.
Does this help, or did I just make it worse??? LOL! I have a habit of doing that sometimes.

I've always learned that the second chakra is the sexual chakra, for both men and women. I don't really see why this should be different for men and women.
Then again, it could explain all the misunderstandings between men and women: we're communicating on different chakra levels.... :D ;)

I've heard mixed views for a while about the sexual chakras (I had personally thought that the 1st chakra was the secual chakra for both sexes). Upon Phoenix's interpretation - it makes better sense to me

Hello!
The chakras don't technically follow the glandular system, they have been associated with them. Further to that, the Muladhara (base chakra) is related to the adrenal gland in both sexes, not the sexual glands. This is because it is the supporting chakra, it is concerned with the connection to the Earth and stability, as is seen in its name (Muladhara means root support). It works with basic needs, and so the adrenals are the gland associated with it, the home of "fight or flight", basic survival. Sex is hinted at in some respects through the colour of red, but this is not sexual love, it is sex for power, basic propagation of the species, and even violent sex.
The Svadisthana (sacral chakra) as the second vortex is linked to both the testes and ovaries, and so is the sexual chakra of both genders in terms of sex as an expression of self. This is the chakra of sexuality and procreation, as is seen in the translation of the name, which means "sweetness".
It is of importance to realise that the placing of glands to chakras is a fairly modern thing in terms of the chakras themselves, it is not a part of the original conception.
However, it is of interest to note that although the adrenals sit on the kidneys, which are not anatomically situated next to the base chakra after birth, pre-birth the kidneys are actually formed in the pelvis, the home of the Muladhara. And so there is a connection between the adrenals and the base chakra at the time of birth.
The importance of the kidneys to the Muladhara is that they not only store energy, but also rule birth and development. The energy in the kidneys (sometimes called jing) is neutral in polarity, and so capable of becoming either positive or negative, and so life producing. The kidneys are also thought to contain our ancestral spirit, that which is passed onto us via our predecessors, and it is thought that when we deplete this original ancestral energy, we die. We can see then that the kidneys, and their related gland, the adrenals, have a very strong connection with the Muladhara and its issues of roots and survival.
Hope this clarifies the reasoning for both sexual chakras being the Svadisthana,
BB

i have always believed that the base or first chakra was sexual/survival - red and that the second chakra is relationship - orange.
so in a way........a more relationship sexual experience would be in the second chakra.
hmmm.
i'm gonna have to meditate on this one.
