For Amina Lawal in Nigeria.
You might have seen this on the news. If you haven't, Amina is a 30 year old Nigerian woman who has just been sentanced to death for having a child while divorced. Unless she wins her appeal (which is going on currently), they will bury her up to her neck in the ground and then stone her to death.
This has really disturbed me! It is like something out of a horror story, I can't imagine how this poor woman is feeling right now. And I am horrified that anyone thinks that it is OK to do this to a woman in this day and age.
Please send Amina love and light, and pray for her. If any of you are interested in doing anything further, here's the Amnesty International webpage on her situation. They suggest that you write letters to the Nigerian President, Minister of Justice and your local Nigerian Ambassador urging them to pardon Amnia and change their laws on adultery. If they get enough letters from people all over the world, they might change their stance on the situation.

Thanks for your help folks. Like I say, this is really really disturbing me.

I too am deeply disturbed by this... The fact that the punishment for adultery is death, is itself disturbing, but the manner of death is even more disturbing... I dread to think what other kinds of lwasthis country upholds: Surely a life for one sexual act is not a fair trade at all?
I have emailed the Nigrian Presiden and Minister of Jstice, but am stil trying to fnd out who the Nigerian representtive for my country is...

The Nigerian government is opposed to this. But yes, please let's all write to them and support Amnesty in this case. The spotlight must be turned on.
The appeal court recently overturned the same death sentence for another woman, and if there is enough outcry, I am sure they will do the same again.
Nigerian politics are very very complicated, and recently some of the Northern States have introduced strict charia laws. This has called much trouble for the non-Muslims in these States. There have been riots, deaths, houses burnt down.
It's pretty messy.

Did anyone actually manage to email the President? I got my email back, stating that the email address doesn't exist. It could well be that they blocked the email address because it was flooded with emails...
I'll just send him a snail mail letter instead...

I didn't try email, Tarotlady - I figured that snailmail would have more of an impact as someone has to physically open it, read it and then chuck it away (instead of just setting their junk mail of 'delete' and forgetting about it.)

but I would like to send email, if anyone knows of a "corrected" link. Was the link temporarily off-line? Sending prayers for Amina Lawal in Nigeria that she be pardoned.
Namaste,
Debins.
