Yesterday was St Michael and all angels day at the Episcopal church, have been looking forward to hearing what my minister woyuld say on them.
I almost giggled when she announced that Raphel's color was yellow and element was air, Michaels color was red and element was fire, Gabriels color was blue and element was water, and Uriels color was green and elements was eart. I was impressed that she knew Uriel at all since he is named in an odd non canocal gospel, even less know than the book of tobit that Raphael is friom.
Of course mentally i had to add the directions as she was saying colors and elements, force of habit lol.
Of course i shouldnt expect anything less from the minister who blatantly announced at Easter that we called it that after the pagan goddess Eostre. Next week should be fun too, its St Francis of Assissi day and everyone is to bring in their pets to have them blessed, so we'll be having cats, dogs, and every other pet in the church. :)

Man, if more Christian churches were like that, I never would have left the faith.
I'm learning every day that most of the worlds religions are surprisingly interchangeable/compatible. Which is a big relief to a skeptic like me :)

Wow the pet blessing would be fun. I would definitely love to watch that. If my former church had more events like that, I'm sure I would have had a harder time leaving it.
Have fun Liliana! Would love to hear more about the pet blessing day! hehe :)

Sunday school is fine except for trying to control my youngest, she just turned 3 and you know how 3 year olds can be hehe
This coming Sunday on St Francis day the kids and my husband will be doing a play, my husband is going to be St Francis and the kids are all going to be birds and hes going to preach to them. It should be cute :)
Mainly we are working on learning the Nicene creed, at least the older kids are mine are a bit too young to understand.

Mmmhhh... WOW!!! That sounds cool! :D
But I have been wondering, how come he did? Did he announce it just out of the blue, without any relationship to anything he was saying? Just talking about our Angelic Firey Dude and his celebration?
If so, that must have just been so cool... *LOL*

Raphael, the healer. I wonder if we should try eating fishing interiors as well *LOL*
"Tobit"? In Italian it is "Tobia"... I'll have to search for that... :P

In 325 BC a Creed was taken in "Nicea", in Middle East.
The decisions taken in the Nicene creed express the desire of unity, and the aim of the creed was to establish some principles, based on written documents, to associate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ with the Hebrew "easter" celebration (how's that translated? ARGH!!!) - this to encourage only one yearly feast of Easter for all the so called Churchs. A sort of mission to the world... ;)
The Nicene Creed also had to deal with lots of Heretics. An Alexandrin priest, ARIO, wanted to investigate on the nature of the Christ, and maintained that there could not be identity among the Trinity. Only the Father, ie the only God, was un-created; He, from nothingness, created the Christ, not from his divine substance but from nothingness: Christ was the first of all creatures, but just a "tool" of the Father, and not eternal as Him.
Alexander, Bishop of Alexandria, strongly fought that Heresy, who dis-communicated Ario (321), who took refuge by the bishop Eusebius of Nicodemia. The Creed was called to stop the havoc: a reunion of almost 300 bishops, mostly eastern, withthe Spanish Osio, the emperors secretary, watching. Needless to talk about the end of it...

Many Episcopal churches are open i believe, but your mileage may vary, I mean I have a United Methodist congretion that does the falling on the floor stuff here, that was a big surprise when i tried going there lol
The Nicene creed is as follows
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen
Most protestant churches dont do it because it mentions being catholic, but catholic here means Universal, not the catholic denomination.
It a female Pollux, so its a she regarding the minister ;) She has 2 different little sermons during a service, one thats just a sermon, and the other called the Episcopal minute which is done short and informal. In the Episcopal minute she told us the names of the 4 archangels, what their name meant, where in the Bible/non canonacal gospels the archangel was named, and then just tacked the associations on at the end, saying they were an ancient folklore that was kind of fun. So yes it was out of the blue, just like mentioning Eostre at Easter. Themn she asked, why do we call it Easter, right away in my mind I said after the Goddess Eostre but she wont say that, was quite surprised when she did hehe

Hi all,
Thumbs down for me or my religious teachings as a catholic.....I know the Nicene Cread by heart..when I was growing up we recited it ever Sunday in church..
But was either never told the name or I just don't remember..I think it's a momy thing..the mind is shot...
When it comes to church..I just remember doing things in order ..automatically..say this now..kneel...say that .. go up for communion...
It's pretty sad..When someone else does the ritual and you just go along..things get lost..
I am happy for those who really participate..someday I will find a church that really brings me in..In the mean time..We pray and celebrate here at home..
Blessings from a solitary Christian Witch

Service is made up of a large number of things that are the same every week, but I love doing the responsivecommunion blessing as it is sung back and forth between the minister and the people, so it is very pretty. I enjoy it far better than just talking, but in the Methodist church there is only one small responsive reading at the beginning, the rest is just sitting and listening or singing hymns. t least I do feel involved in this church (i miss singing the doxology while the offering is brought forward tho) Also its kind of nice receiving communion every week (i think it was like once a month maybe less in the methodist church) using real wine, drank out of the same chalice not those little shot glasses. I could do without the communion wafers, but on special days the minister bakes her own bread to use in communion. Now I just need to start learning when im supposed to cross myself, but im blasphemous nyway because I do it "wrong" by ending on the left instead of the right. Just cant get past my metaphsyical training lol

When I attended Catholic School as a child I knew a version of this as the "Apostles Creed" they had made some changes when I went to my father-in-laws Methodist church years later (he is a pastor) and it always seems like I sound like I am tripping on saying the prayer, when I am remembering the way I had to recite it in 5th grade....
It always struck me about the common "parts" of a church service (especially catholic) and a pagan circle have. The Invocation, Blessings, Dedication, Release, etc. I used to have parts of the Catholic mass memorized, but now my memory is failing on it.
Bringing my pets into a church seems like a dream to me, I remember only doing the St Francis Xavier ceremony with the candles at the throat. Oh yeah, and one really cool Maying.....

yeah the apostels creed is a shorter less formal version of the Nicene creed
Something I just realized, by having a blessing of the animals at my church it implies that they believe the animals have a soul. Why bless them if they are jsut souless creatures? Many churches say they dont, Ive always thought those churches were full of crap.
All I have to take is a goldfish, but Im thinking of asking my grandparents if I can bring the dog that was bought for me while I was in early high school. She lives with them as i couldnt take her when i moved, besides i wouldnt do that o them. She is something like 12 human years old, so her time is coming to an end here. Might be nice to have her blessed before she goes. Dont know if theyll let me tho

Hi CJ -
I don't know where in New England you are but my mother attends a wonderful Epicopal Church in Milford, CT. I used to attend St. Andrews as well. Reverend Nancy is very open, vibrant and unconventional and has incorporated a Montessori Sunday School program. She's a huge movie fan and most always uses film analogies in sermons. Parishoners are casual and welcoming without a holier-than-thou attitude. I can email the details if you like...
