From Atlantis to the Sphinx

I wasn't sure whether to put this post here or in chat. So go ahead and move it if need be :D

Has anyone read or heard of this book??? It is copyrighted 1996 but reprinted internationally in 1999. Anyway I just picked it up and it's amazing!!! I've only read the first couple of chapters, but I'm glued to this book!!!!

I seem to remember hearing someone talk of this years ago, but it didn't interest me then, so I ignored it.

But the book talks about how the Sphinx and the Pyramid of Giza must be WAY older than our historians say. That the Sphinx has been eroded by water not blowing sand. That it's been proved, just not accepted (at the time or writing this book)

The author, Colin Wilson, says that this evidence shows that the SPhinx must have been around when the sahara desert area was still green and wet!! Which of course was WAY before the eqyptian historians claim.

Wilson goes on to say in his opinion and many others that he has studied with, this shows that there was most probably another older civilization that our history books don't know about. He talks about 'Atlantis', but says he uses that title to name any older civilization not necessarily the one "mythical" city buried by water!

It's such a wonderful book!!! If you haven't read it and are in any way interested in this I suggest digging up a copy. It's scientific enough to show some "proof" but easy enough to read that I can actually understand it!! LOL

OH YEAH!!

And somewhere in the book, he talks about how one of the people he researched and talked to, believes that this ancient, undiscovered civilization probably used more of what he calls "lunar knowledge" vs. "solar knowledge".

The way we think now is the "solar knowledge". We rely mostly on rational thoughts, operating with words and concepts.

Well the older civilization knowledge system was based more on "intuition which grasps things as a whole." -- lunar knowledge!

Boy does this make the light bulb go off in my mind!! :D Actually it actually strikes a memory chord with me somehow!!!!

Can you tell this book interests me??? ROFL

I haven't read that book yet, but Colin Wilson is an author I discovered just this year. I recently finished _The Philosopher's Stone_ and going to start _The Outsiders_ when I finish the non-Colin Wilson book I'm currently reading. I'll start hunting for a copy of _From Atlantis to the Sphinx_ next pay day :)

If you like that book, you may well like the works of 'Zecharia Sitchin'..his book Genesis revisited makes very interesting reading....another interesting book is 'the sirius mystery' by Robert Temple.

A word of warning here though,- is don't believe to easily. Much of this stuff is so lost in the mists of time, that the 'real truth' will probably never be known. Try to keep away from Graham Hancock and von danikin, they make stuff up :-)

AmourA,
I'll check out the books you suggested! thanks!! ;) I'm always up for more books!!!! LOL

Also thanks for the warning but I always take anything I read (or hear for that matter :) ) with a grain of salt!!! And am doing so with this book as well, but it's just so darn fun to read!!!! ROFL

Yep, I also have heard the theory that at least the Sphinx is much older than the pyramids and considered to be build from another civilization but I cannot second theories like the ones by E. von Däniken who says that aliens have build the Sphinx, etc.

What struck me most is that there are no apparent signs about the development of Egyptian civilization. It seems to have sprung up in full bloom and that's just the thing I find hard to believe. Maybe there are much older artefacts buried beneath tons of sand and we still have not the possiblities to find them or they will be discovered by mere luck like the scrolls of Qumran.

I agree catlin, that the thought of aliens doing the building is pretty poor! IMO that's what people bring up sometimes when they don't have a reason. Now that doesn't mean I don't believe in other races of people that aren't of this planet. I just don't think they come here all the time to do our building for us!!!! LOL
This book doesn't support that at all. It's main point is there probably was at least one earlier more advanced civilization that we just haven't discovered yet.
Granted it does mention how strange it seems to have an advanced civilization that disappeared only to have a LESS advanced people appear!

Older than the Egyptians where the Sumerians of Mesopotamia. They are considered to have invented writing and the wheel ( we can also thank them for our time ....they where the first to divide an hour into 60, they also invented the decimal system, using the number 10 like we still do today).

There texts contain strange tells....very very strange! The epic story of Gilgamesh and his quest for eternal life is perhaps the best known.

It would seem that the Egyptian religon & way of organising society evolved out of the sumerians. This however only deepens the magik and mystery....the sumerians are best discribed as 'way out there' :-)

That is strange, especially when you look and see that over and over in history supposed advanced civilizations have completely vanished. I often wonder if there is a pattern there . . .

Blessings.
