i love fairytales and find many of them spiritual, many of them are built on old folk-lore.

the Grimm brothers are the best, H.C Andresen is excellent:)
oh and alice in wonderland!

i also love Mists of avalon by zimmer-Bradley

and spiritual for me is also old encyclopedias, anatomy books, the farmers almanack, those large lush photo books from around the world.

spiritual uplifting in an odd way are also the novels by Anne Tyler, she writes books about daring to break free from the rut.
and lastly: Girlfriend in a coma by Coupland.

Kiama  03 Sep 2002
Mists of Avalon by M Zimer-Bradley

Anam Cara

Peter Pan, JM Barrie

Anything by Terry Pratchett (I find weird stuff spiritual)

Anything by Neitzche

There are definitely others, which I can't remember right now cuz my brain's gone squelchy.

I have mostly been stock piling books now for a while, and not had time to read them all... But with fall closing in, there will be plenty of time to cuddle up in the sofa and sink in a good spiritually enlightning book...!

Conversations with God (though I have only read part 1 yet)

78 degrees of wisdom - yes, to me it has been a very spiritual book! :)

The neverending story by Michael Ende and
Momo by the same author - these are kid's books, but OH so good for us grown-ups to read and ponder... The first is about how we let our sense of fantasy slip away, and replace it with - what? Momo is about what we do with out time... Excellent books both of them! :)

Great thread, I will come back to this one every time I want an idea for a new book!

Light and love,
Jenny :)

PS: Napaea - I was so glad to see "Mudras - yoga in your hands" on your list, a friend gave it to me last weekend and I haven't had time to start reading it yet, but I am fascinated by mudras, and I caught myself playing (trying to get it right...!!) with one during an incredibly boring business meeting this week. It was a whole lot more fun than the meeting, I can tell you that!! *lol*

Maan  05 Sep 2002

Jenny-Li:
i can't wait to get a car that ISN'T a stick shift, so i can do my mudras with one hand and steer with the other! i love this book so much! (actually lost my copy somewhere, so i have to get another!)

HOLMES  05 Sep 2002

Smack  05 Sep 2002
The Book of Secrets by Osho... GREAT book.

Moongold  06 Sep 2002
Wow, where to begin? Maybe with the present:

The Psalms (must be Stephen Mitchell's translation)
Tarot Shadow Work - Christine Jette (Lette?)
78 Degrees of Wisdom - Rachel Pollack
The Tao (Stephen Mitchell's translation)
You are not your illness - Linda (?) Noble Topf

Poetry of various kinds but particularly Rilke, Judith Wright, T.S Eliot, Marge Piercy, David Campbell, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Shakespeare, Michael Dransfield - the list could go on forever. Poetry often takes my breath away because of its beauty and ideas. It lifts me into another dimension altogether and helps me understand things that I just can't any other way.

Great question
