What's Your Vastu Type?

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 07 Sep 2002, and now archived in the Forum Library.

Is your kitchen sink in the fire quadrant of your home? You may not be able to move the sink, but there are some things you can do to appease the elements. According to the rules of vastu, it's important to arrange your home in a way that works for your dosha (mind-body type).

Take this quiz to find out which element (air, fire, or water) you are most closely associated with. Then read more tips on setting up your vastu home.

I have never heard of Vestu before. Is it like Feng Shui?

Strega  07 Sep 2002

DAYUM! Just my luck. :D My bedroom is located in the southeast quadrant of our house. :P

I'm more interested in my dosha... so taking the info a step further...

Other sources say:
Pitta people have many of the qualities of fire. Fire is hot, penetrating, sharp, and agitating. Similarly, pitta people have warm bodies, penetrating ideas, and sharp intelligence. But they can also become very agitated and short tempered.

Pitta people have a strong metabolism, good digestion, and strong appetites. They like plenty of food and liquids. They tend to love hot spices and cold drinks. However, their constitution is balanced by sweet, bitter and astringent tastes. Pitta people sleep well and of medium duration.

Pitta people have a lower tolerance for sunlight, heat or hard physical work. Mentally, pitta types are alert and intelligent and have good powers of comprehension. However, they are easily agitated and aggressive and tend toward hate, anger and jealousy when imbalanced.

In the external world, pitta people like to be leaders and planners and seek material prosperity. They like to exhibit their wealth and possessions.

Pitta people tend to have diseases involving the fire principle such as fevers, inflammatory diseases and jaundice. Common symptoms include skin rashes, burning sensation, ulceration, fever, inflammations or irritations such as conjunctivitis, colitis, or sore throats.

Vastu is India's version of Feng Shui. Also referred to as Vastu Shastra, Vastu Vidya, Sthapatya Ved, or Vedic Architecture. :)

I also scored pitta. I know this is true also from a book on vedic medicine by Depak Chopra that I have. (can't think of the name that I'm calling "vedic medicine" here). In the book he goes into these types and sub types in much more detail . But it isn't feng shui. Instead it's all about the body physically, mainly what one should eat based on the body type. It's very interesting.

purplelady  07 Sep 2002
Ah , here it is "Perfect Health" by Deepak Chopra. It's called "Ayurvedic Medicine" and is practiced in India. Pitta, Vatta, and Kasha are "Dosha's". There are combinations and sub-types besides just the 3 main or pure doshas. The 3 basic doshas relate to many things (and now also relate to feng shui apparently!) . They relate to the body systems, psychology, eating habits, sleeping habits, diseases etc. Deepak Chopra is also big on talking about and promising to reverse or halt or slow down the aging process, eternal life etc. Your dosha type says whether you prefer sweets or salt, hot weather or cold weather. All dis-ease is caused by an imbalance in a dosha (everyone has all 3 , it's just that one type is more dominant in a given person).

I took the test you posted and got Pitta as well, but I really don't think I'm very much like that at all! :( So, I went searching and found this site: http://www.vastuliving.com The questions are worded a little differently which made me change some of my answers. And now I'm Vata, which really is much more me! :)

Strega, where did you get more info on your dosha? From the same site?

R :)

Various sources. Mainly from text files I've collected over the years. Would you like me to look up Vata for you? :)

Pitta. Through &Through.

In fact, all of the ailements I've suffered over the years - and continue to suffer - are listed on both sites. AND my bedroom is in the SE, and I cannot change it, but my deck is on the SW and the living room(my fav room) is NW...which would explain why I am so relaxed and happy in those sites!

Sigh.

I feel the same way about our living room (SW) and my parent's bedroom (NW). :)

I scored 19, Kapha- water.

This is really awesome, I never heard of it before. Feng Shui, but never this.
I think it's accurate. It ties in with my Astro/chart, I'm Scorpio, a water sign. Thanks, Strega! You are the cool quiz queen!

Aw shucks... I got a title. Teehee! :D

Would you like me to post some info on Kapha for you? :)

Rhiannon  07 Sep 2002
I think it would be lovely of you to post some info on Vata! I would really appreciate it. All I know right now is that it is assciated with air and that I should sleep in the north-west quarter (i think).

Thanks!

The result says:
Pitta. Your constitution shows the likelihood of a pitta (fire) dosha. According to "Vastu Living," someone with a pitta dosha should not sleep or work in the southeast quadrant, which is the realm of fire.
Hmmm. We do have two new bedrooms built at NW and NE. I'm taking one of 'em. :D

Okay. :)

According to Dr. Lad:

A person with vata predominant is blessed with a quick mind, flexibility and creativity. Vata provides the essential motion for all bodily processes and is extremely vital for health. One purpose of lifestyle considerations is to "ground" or stabilize this motion. On an annual basis, vata is most prominent in the fall and at the change of seasons, and these are the most important times to be careful of diet and lifestyle. Routine is very useful in assisting the vata individual to effectively ground all this moving energy.

Vata types have variable appetite and digestion. They are often attracted to astringent foods like salad and vegetables, but their constitution is balanced by sweet, sour and salty tastes. Vata people tend to produce little urine and their feces are hard, dry and small in size and quantity. Mentally, vata people usually grasp things quickly but then forget them quickly. They are alert, restless and very active. They walk, talk and think fast, but are easily fatigued. They have less willpower and often feel unstable and ungrounded. They have less tolerance, confidence and boldness. When unbalanced, vata types have a tendency to become fearful and nervous, and may experience high anxiety. In the external world, vata types tend to earn money quickly and spend it quickly. They are not good planners and as a consequence may suffer economic hardship. Vata resides in the colon, as well as the brain, ears, bones, joints, skin and thighs. Vata people are more susceptible to diseases involving the air principle, such as emphysema, pneumonia and arthritis. Other common vata disorders include flatulence, tics, twitches, aching joints, dry skin and hair, nerve disorders, constipation, and mental confusion. Vata tends to increase with age as is indicated by drying and wrinkling of the skin.

Since the attributes of vata are dry, light, cold, rough, subtle, mobile, clear and dispersing, any of these qualities in excess can cause imbalance. Frantic travel, especially by plane, loud noises, continual stimulation, drugs, sugar, and alcohol all derange vata, as does exposure to cold and cold foods. Like the wind, vata types have a hard time becoming and staying grounded. Routine is difficult but essential if vata is to be lowered and controlled. In general, people with excessive vata respond most rapidly to warm, moist, slightly oily, heavy foods. Steam baths, humidifiers, and moisture in general are helpful.

Does that sound like you?

Hope that helps. :)

I took the test on the other site mentioned and am still Pitta, which is very much like me :)

Also Im a fire sign astrologically so I guess Pitta matches me :)

It says I should sleep or work in the southwest, southwest is where my computer is, and being on it is my equivalent of work :) It also says to sleep or work in the northeast, thats where my bedroom is :) Guess thats why i sleep better in my room then when in the living room with the kids, the living room is in the corner im not supposed to sleep in
