Greetings and Blessed Be!
Well, for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, Samhain, or if you prefer Halloween is approaching. I have always felt extremely drawn to this time of year and particularly October 31st at it seems truly anything can happen. Its a Magickal time! In my beliefs, this time of year the veils between the worlds of the mundane and the worlds of the unseen become thin any many times we are able to communicate with "the other side". It is a perfect time for divination, honoring are ancestors and renewal of spirit.
I was hoping that we could use this thread to share some of our experiences that we have had around this time of year and particularly Samhain night.
For me, last Samhain was one of my most memorable. As you may recall the full moon last year was on November 1st, making Samhain night almost perfect! Late into the night, after midnight I stepped away from the bonfire that we had lit to do some divination. I walked several yards away into the woods that surround my house. The moon was so bright I could see perfectly as I laid my tarot spread upon the cool earth. The moon was hanging low in the sky by then and the woods were absolutely quiet. All the creatures had turned in for the night, or maybe, like me-the beauty of that night had simply left them silent with awe. A fine mist of fog rolled in and lay low underneath the trees as I started reading the cards. That moment, the sight of the moon light shining through the trees, splitting the beams into huge rays as it scattered through the fog: one of the most memorable and perfect moments of my life. I was using a tarot spread to see what the upcoming year would bring, but I knew, there in those woods already..that this year would be magickal.
I danced and played in the moonlight until dawn when I made my bed by the coals of the dying fire. As the new day approached I fell asleep with a feeling of complete and utter peace. The moon sank beneath the trees and the sun of the new year arose.
Another Samhain had passed.
Ah..just remembering it makes me anxious for this Samhain!
So..anyone have anything else to share? Spooky tales, Magickal tales? anything and everything that might have happend around this time of year that made an impact on you
Blessed Samhain to all!

MMMMM that's awesome!
A couple of years ago, I set up a shrine to my ancestors on the night of Samhain. I spent all night reading the stories about my grandmother, great-grandma, the old country. Looked at a bunch of pictures and set them all up on the shrine.
I left the shrine up until Yule, and every time I looked over my shoulder at it, I could feel my own roots to my family.

Sounds great Indigo! We usually set up an ancestor altar as well. Never thought about leaving it up for longer than a few days though. I like your idea of leaving it up until Yule. I might try that this year
Hey I just noticed something. I live less than an hour away from you. Isn't that amazing? :)
Blessings,
Moonklad

I may get to go to a Samhain ritual this year, yeah I'm so psyched! I haven't been to one in many years, at least 12, but that time was fantastic. We each approached the cauldron (once the circle was cast and all had entered) and spoke to those who were gone with whom we wished to commuicate.
This year, if we go, I'm really looking forward to it. I am really more of a Himdu than anything, but I borrow freely from other Truths, and the Wiccans out here in N.M. are a fantastic lot of people.
blessed be to you all
