Hi all!
I've heard alot that people who use Reiki have to be 'attuned' by another Reiki healer to get to higher levels. I have a question though: Is it posible to get higher without anybody else?

To be able to use Reiki energies you have to be attuned by a Reiki master, this can be done in person or via a distant attunement. I`ve never heard of someone being attuned without a Reiki Master but I may be wrong.

If you have to be attuned by a Reiki Master, who attuned the first Reiki Master? If the first person managed to do it alone, it seems to me that others could too. However, from what I have read, the first Reiki Master spent years and years learning how to do this. Most people today would not be willing to spend that amount of time learning. Having a Master attune you is a great time saver! So, personally, I would say that it IS possible to learn on your own but it would be very, very difficult to do. Now, this brings up a bunch of other questions. What if the Master you go to isn't very good? Can they mess it up, or if they are attuned are they always capable of attuning others? Is it true that "Once attuned, always attuned" or do you have to re-charge it? I have my name on a waiting list for a possible Reiki class in January. I hope this class gets enough people interested and that the instructor decides to offer it. I really want to learn more!

The very best web-site devoted to reiki that I have found on the web (thanks to SkyDancer) is:
http://angelreiki.nu/
All questions are answered there - even stuff you wouldn't have imagined asking!
And if you still have questions, you can e-mail Vinny himself. He is an absolutely wonderful person.

My current theory is you can do energy work equivalent to Reiki without attunement by a Reiki Master, but for it to be *Reiki, the attunement is required. Will a person of natural skill be able to eventually preform equivalent results whether or not they self-learn energy work the hard way or have instruction under a competent Reiki master? Yes. of course. Will they probably learn faster under a teacher? Yes, of course. Are there bad teachers out there who could slow down a student's progress? Yes, of course.
Those are excellent, thought-provoking questions Raeanne. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on this topic after reading the link Diana provided.
