I don't know if this is the right place for this post (or if there is a right place), but if not the moddies can move it. ;) I also don't know if I'm spelling the name right!! I thought it was "eida" but apparently not.
Anyway, I want to read his books and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what order I should read them in. Or what order they were written in?

Do you know Casdanada was revealed as a fraud? He made the stuff up in his books...but sadly made out they where non-fiction.
They are still good books though, just a shame about that little detail:-) I have a couple, but I have no idea what order they where written in.

Hi Stargazer,
I remember that I believe "The Teaching of Don Juan" was the first, and I can't remember the others. If you can jog my memory with their titles, I believe I can put them in chronological order.

i have 'the teachings of don juan', 'a separate reality' and 'journey to ixtlan'. these were his first 3 books in that order.
as i understand it, don juan was made up, and was inspired by several different shaman.
i've also read 'magical passes', but this came much later, and is about a kind of spiritual excersize, not too disimilar to tai chi.

AmounRa, I didn't know that :( How sad. I do think they'll still be interesting, though. I knew that the Don Juan book was the first, but I don't know about the others. I don't even know all of the titles. I suppose I'll look on Yahoo, hoping that's the right way to spell his name! Thank you for your replies. :D

Thank you zorya!
DeLani, these are the books that are listed on the official website:
The Active Side of Infinity
The Wheel of Time
Magical Passes
The Art Of Dreaming
The Teachings of Don Juan
Being-in-Dreaming
The Sorcerers' Crossing
The Witch’s Dream
I don't think those are all of his books, are they? Isn't there something about a Yaki (sp?)?

the full name of his first book is;
'the teachings of don juan: a yaqui way of knowledge'

I thought the Don Juan was the yaqui one (sorry about the spelling on last post!). I was confused because it only said "The Teachings of Don Juan". It's so obvious I haven't looked much into this! :/

I think some of those books are from other authors - The Witch's Dream is by Florinda Donner, I believe. And the others aren't ringing a bell...sorry! But go with the first three books, anyway.

You're right! I just assumed they were all by Castaneda, but most of them aren't. Phooey. I think I'm going to read the 3 books zorya mentiond and then just read whatever I can find in the library.

stargazer lily,
may i ask why the interest in castaneda? yeah, castaneda is a good read. his books popularized shamanism. makes shamanism interesting. but.....
if you are really interested in learning about shamanism for yourself, the MUST read book is 'the way of the shaman' by michael harner. the other major "classic" writer would be mircea eliade (hope i spelled that correctly), but eliade is rather dry reading.
for fun and entertaining novels, try anything by lynn andrews.

I'm too embarrassed and afraid to talk about my spirituality (lack of it--I'm a mess). I don't really want to go into it because I don't want people telling me I'm going about it the wrong way--it would just discourage me.
My boyfriend recommended Castaneda forever ago. Plus, "desert buttons" are mentioned in Third Eye by Tool and I don't remember how I figured out the connection to Castaneda. But Tool is a big inspiration to me (I'm also afraid of people ripping on my for saying that--to each his own!?). My boyfriend also recommended I read about shamanism--he thinks that would fit me, so thank you for your suggestions.

these three are available in one collected volumn, now. the last book i read by catenada was _the art of dreaming_, that i didn't particularily like (i couldn't "get into" it).
