So, earlier this week, a couple of covenmates invited me to go with them to a Labyrinth Walk hosted by the local Episcopalian Church. It sounded like fun, and maybe a chance for some positive Pagan PR. (Hey, when you live in the Bible Belt and there's anything "alternative" in the least about your lifestyle, you brown-nose shamelessly whenever you can. ;) )
It was wonderful! The stars were clear and bright, the candles marking the pathway were casting gentle shadows, and the atmosphere of the area was... just right. There was such a sense of peace, solitude without loneliness. I kept thinking back to a past life (I was a Franciscan monk) and I knew that I had done this before. I was almost surprised to look down and see sneakers instead of bare feet.
They had another one inside, and because I started late, they started packing things up (quietly and unobtrusively, they obviously weren't going to ring a bell and shout "Closing time, you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here!"). This labyrinth was more intricate, and when I was halfway out, I started to panic... "uh-oh. I'm keeping these folks out away from their homes and families. I need to hurry up! I need to just walk out! OHMYgoodness I'm lost! I got turned around and I'm actually heading to the middle!". But then, I "heard" the Goddess, saying, "Don't worry. You're not lost. You can't be lost when you're on My path. Just keep going at your own pace. These people will understand."
The whole experience was awe-inspiring.
Has anyone else done a Labyrinth walk? Care to share your experience?

Indigo,
I have never done a Labyrinth walk, but I have several books on the subject. I have a small “finger Labyrinth” that I use. I put my finger on the paper and slowly move it around the labyrinth. I have been surprised at how soothing even this small act can be. I’m sure walking a full sized labyrinth would be an interesting experience.
