A friend of mine was talking about opening his chakras, and he said that it often hurt him like hell when he managed it. For instance, he would get migraines when he opened the Crown or Third Eye chakra.
Is this normal....? I know nothing about Chakras, and am a bit worried that something like opening them could hurt like that!

I suppose that everyone`s different. I`ve been working with my chakras for a few years now and have never experienced any pain when opening, closing or balancing them.

Hi Kiama,
no, its not at all normal for it to hurt when opening the chakras, unless your friend was using a crow bar or a tin opener, but my guess is he just tries too hard. Like when you strain so hard you get a banging headache after.
The opening of the chakras is a visualisation technique, not a physical exhertion as such.
There are volumes and volumes of information on chakras and opening (and closing) them on the internet. It is a great experience, and not to be missed. Especially look up info on the pineal gland in relation to the third eye chakra.... its a real eye opener, literally :)
Personally, when my crown chakra is open, it feels like a wonderful, tingling sensation, like my skin up there is tightening. And this sensation is a cue to me that I am open, whether I conciously or subconciously requested it to happen.
Good luck on your voyage of discovery :)

I've only had problems when I forget to close my chakras when I'm done with whatever I was doing... Just like forgetting to ground after ritual, I'll get headaches, mild hypoglycemia, and general crankiness.

I've been temporarily disoriented and dizzy during experiences that opened my chakras too quickly, but never felt pain or a headache. Usually when I hurt and ache, my chakras and energy levels are not working at full potential and I'm in need of some energy work to sooth the tension and open the channels.
