Greetings.
I would like to discuss something with you guys: 'Universal Energy'. But first, I have to tell you that I got my very first healing-session yesterday! Wow, I was incredibly nervous! And she wouldn't start before I settled down. *giggle* It felt like she knew when I was calm enough.
I have had this lump in my shoulder since 1998, and some people have told me it's my muscles, others my nerves. I'm not yet sure which one it was. The healing-lady (what a term! ;) ) told me it was only muscles knotting up because of stress. ¨
Next, I sat in a chair and she stood behind me and laid her hands on my shoulders. Then she told me to state my full name and date of birth. Out loud that is. Then she did this for a few minutes, but I couldn't feel anything 'significant'. So she put her hand directly on the lump, and yikes! Things started to get hot in her palm I felt!
Something was obviously working, and after a little while she put her other hand on top of my head, and when doing so, she jumped! She told me that I did indeed have enough energy, and only seconds later she had to remove her hand because it was uncomfortable. I remeber one time another person did this, and she also had to remove her hand because she felt almost sick... What does that mean?
Anyway, she told me that I have 'abilities'... Hm.
Then, when I left, she lend me a book so I could get into this myself, and it was about 'Universal Energy'. Have you got any opinions on this? It's kinda like Reiki, but not the same. I haven't heard about it before now. The founder is named something 'Master Deng'.

Hi aeonx,
My two cents worth:
I know that Charismatic Christians practice this sort of healing, I've also read about it in books by Agnes Sandford and it seems similar to Reiki. I'd make the guess that there are a lot of other groups all claiming it as their own too. I believe that all of these are pretty much the same thing.
What mostly seems to be involved is the healer making him/herself into a channel for some sort of power or energy. I don't know whether it is a force that we haven't yet managed to classify or the power of suggestion but it does seem that people can help to heal other people. It doesn't always work (whatever system is being used) and I haven't as yet heard a convincing explanation of why it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. But then, there are lots of things that don't have a good explanation but seem to work: acupuncture, counselling, homeopathy.
Good luck with it and I hope it really helps :)

Hi you. :)
Well, when you mentioned it, I remembered that she asked the Lord for help - to help. That pretty much describes the Charismatic Christian-take. Usually I get sort of uncomfortable around people like her, but she was truly 'down to earth' as well. I cannot stand the 'Halleluja'-thing (not being offensive here) because that's simply too much for me.
I really want to explore Reiki, and I've been thinking about it for a long time. However, I'm not sure where to begin. Well, I've started practicing the breathing exercises (chakra-related), so that's one step. But I would really like to go to a Reiki Master. It's hard to find people who have valid experience and truly knows what they are doing, since one is able to get the Master-level now so easy. I've seen people offering Master levels through one weekend!!

Check out prana, and pranic breathing on the net :)

I get energy healing sessions from a self-trained healer who is also now going to massage therapy schools. He'll make a great massage therapist. He helps my fibromyalgia by leaps and bounds.
I don't know much about Universal Energy but I found an interesting web page on it that might be useful: http://mentalforce.tripod.com/euniv/bookeu_uk/Cap1-12en.htm It all makes sense enough to me.

Laurel: Thank you so much for that link! It was really comprehensive, so I've bookmarked it for later when I have time to delve into it. :)

as a reiki practitioner i have learned that the definition of reiki is simply Universal Life Energy. it is the energy available to everyone. of course in learning reiki you are taught to channel the energy in specific ways.
the hand positions you described, aeonx, sound more like reiki than anything else to me. also the heat thing. this is one of the ways to tell when you are channelling the energies, your hands become very hot. my mom used to tell me my hands felt like little heating pads and were very welcome on her sore muscles.
on the other hand, i too have fibromyalgia and i am never able to completely rid myself of the pain no matter what kind of healing i have done. it's very frustrating to be a healer and not to be able to heal myself completely. i have been to several reiki healers who have been able to help but not heal entirely. i am always thankful for any relief however.
i believe that any understanding we can gain about this Universal Energy will be beneficial in many ways as it is what we are all made of.
love and blessings,

i think that universal energy is just that, universal. i do a healing thing, with my hands, that i describe as smoothing the aura. i know that i'm tapping into a universal energy. i have also been attuned to reiki 1, and it is similar.
you can find hands on healing in many cultures, all over the world. slightly different methods, but all basically tapping into the same thing.
just a small warning, in case anyone desides to 'try this at home'...it is very important to allow the energy to flow through and out of you, to expell the negative so to speak. otherwise you can cause harm to yourself.

Thanx for the insights. :)
One questions though: Sometimes my hands get so hot that I cannot keep them on my thighs even. I got it once when I was in Thailand now and I had to put my hands in the sand to chill them down. I had no clue what it was. However, normally my hands are exceptionally cold. I'm almost always freezing cold. If I now had any 'abilities' my energy centres must be seriously unstable. :D What do you think the reason for this is?
