new moon - when do we know?

When do we know when it's the day that has a new moon? 'coz in HK, the sky is very unclear due to the heavy pollution. Is there some sort of calendar that tells u the phases of the moon?

If you are talking about the moon cycles, new and full, many calendars will have small pictures of the moon phase and on the day which they occur. I use an astrological pocket calendar (my choice is Jim Maynard's Pocket Astrologer, but I know Llewlellyn also makes one.) A blackened circle is a new moon, a white circle, a full moon. Some calendars show the quarter phases, too. I like the astrological approach because it also includes what sign the moon is in. Pozt,are you a Chinese? Moon phase/calendar is very similar to our chinese calendar.I'm not sure are you aware or not.You know,in chinese,we say chu yi (first day) and shi wu (15th)? It's the same.Full moon and New Moon! :D

yes i'm chinese, but not very aware of chinese culture and that coz i was brought up in australia. :P just wondering also, is the moon phase on a particular day the same no matter where u are on earth? thanks.

I'm the lucky one. :D I was born around New Moon, so I can always tell when it's around. Cannot always tell the exact day though. But cool enough. :) ~aeonx~

I believe Llwewllyn's datebook gives a little chart on the fold-over part that tells you how many hours to add to the time given for astrological changes. I'm not sure if that also applys to changes of the moon phase? You should post this in the astrology section, people there would know. ;)
