Peace between mixed religions personal experience

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 24 Dec 2002, and now archived in the Forum Library.

Maan  24 Dec 2002
Tonight i attended mass. I never go to church anymore because i don't feel connected with the christian god. But i did make an exeption for this mass. It was held in a beautiful old catholic curch but the service was lead by 3 different people. A catholic priest first read a part of his bible, after him a vicar told a story from his bible about peace and then a muslim imam read a part about peace from the koran.

It was so hopeful to see those 3 relegions working together in harmony.

So that is my christmas wish for this year that in the whole world all religions go side by side in peace and not only in this small country in this little city called Eindhoven

Merry Christmas

That was great Maan!
I just wonder, like you, how long it will take before more religions get the hint, but this has given me more optimism :D

Love

Thank you for sharing that, Maan, that sounds beautiful!

And I hope this connection will not be limited to that one service, but will continue to exist and grow in everyday life, all over the world...

Maan, that was wonderful!!!
Currently, I have the pope being broadcasted on my tv. (I get 2 channel)I'm enjoying the posts here while listening to this play by play of Christmas celebration. Lately, in my life, there has been disscusion of the concept of faith and how two different faiths can coincide. It is my outlook that "GOD" manifestis itself into each individual in a way that the particular individual can comprehend and relate to. When Jeasus said 'I am the only way' he was speaking about his area of the world, those people that would hear of him.
Across the globe, the native american tribes, aborigonies, etc. connected with this same god just through ways that felt right for them.
God knows what is each individuals heart. If it is true and pureand full of love, then it is not to be condemed.

that's not really three different relgions. it's really the same god in all three religions. if they really wanted to do something that encompassed all religions then lets see a buddhist, hindu, jew etc..bet you they wouldn't be too eager to share a service. I have friends who think that the likes of theses masses with other preists is a good sign of a new understanding between relgions...but look beneath all this BS and you'll see if they were really wanting to act 'christian' then lets have the hindu priest, the jewish rabbi etc and then come back to this forum and tell us the story...

True, but looking at what's happening in the world these days you'd think otherwise... I know a lot of Christians who don't accept islam at all and have a very negative view of it. So having these religions share a service can serve as a reminder that there aren't that many differences between these religions and help increase acceptance among them.

The idea wasn't to represent all religions, but to represent the most common religions in the Netherlands. This service may not have been perfect (personally, I think they should have included a rabbi as well, since we have quite a few Jewish people in the Netherlands), but I think this is at least a start, so I really don't understand why you are so negative about this whole thing.

Hi Musicman
Last year they did the same thing only with a rabbi and vicar. This year they organization believed there was more need to work on the peace between muslims and christians because of the situation in the world today..thinking of the terrorisme and the terrible war america is planning to engage:(

That is a wonderful thing for you to experience Maan, and I wish I could attend such a beautiful mass.... I am hoping sson to organise an Interfaith event with the Univeristy Pagan Society, Muslim Society, Christian Union, Jewish Society, Sikh Society, Hindu Society (Breath...) and all relgious societies basically... It's something we all need right now I feel.

Here's to Peace Between All Religions! *Kiama raises a glass*

You know Kiama in a way the mass had a pagan attending ;) Me !!!!
The pastor who organized this is my aunt and she knows i'm pagan, she accepts it and is very glad that i have found a spiritual path i'm happy with. Maybe i raise the idea of a shared pagan/christian mass for next year .... but i'm affraid that the others in here curch are not as openminded as she is :( One day..i hope :)

wouldn't it be lovely if everyone in the world could just accept everyone elses beliefs and live in peace?
as long as you're not hurting anyone what does it matter what God you believe in or how you pray?
fingers crossed one day we'll be able to mix religions together with no repercussions.

Amen to that!!! I suppose I am lucky, because although my large group of friends/family have very mixed beliefs (Pagan, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, Satanist, Athiest, Agnostic, and Ecelectic...), we all respect each other, and never try and force our beliefs on each other. True, there are a few times when we have some disagreements, but it never turns into an 'I'm right, your wrong' thing... Which means we learn alot about each other's religions/beliefs.

That's one of the things I like about the forum here... There are so many mixed beliefs, yet we nerly always discuss things in a respectful and intelliegnt manner, leaving room for learning and growth. :D:D:D

I doubt whether it's accepted in any belief... Most of the time it's the people interpreting the beliefs and using/abusing beliefs that create the wars, not the beliefs themselves...
