I'm running into some confusion regarding chakras for a project I'm working on (artwork). Online I find info on 5 chakras in the human body, and then other sites say there are 7 chakras. Still other sites say there are multiple ones over the head also, and now I ran across one that says the hands & feet get them too...........I want to be accurate but not overly done.
What is the accepted number of chakras people generally go for? Is it 5 or 7? I need the most likely answer to do the chakra images over the drawing I'm making & don't want to have people getting side tracked by counting the wrong number & pointing it out to me over & over.
Should I just go with 7?

I am not the most accomplished to reply to this... but I think there are many many more chakras than 7 or 9... The 7 chakras generally referred to are the main ones, corresponding to the intersections of the two main "streams" of energy spiralling from side to side through chast/abdomen, and to the main stream corresponding to the backbone. There are many others, like those in each hand or foot. A high number in theory, considering all the places where energy can gather/be gathered. Geez... I must buy a book... *LOL* I think that in your case you can focus on the 7 Main ones, and discard the rest. :)

I think that Pollux is right, there are over 200 chakras all over the body but most people concentrate on the 7 main chakras which roughly lie along the spinal cord. The colours tend to match the colours of the rainbow.
Crown chakra - white - just above the top of the head
Third eye chakra - Indigo - between the eyebrows and associated with the pineal gland
Throat chakra - turquoise blue - throat area
Heart chakra - green - middle of the chest
Solar plexus chakra - yellow - just below the breast bone where the ribs meet.
Naval chakra - orange - just below the waist
Base / Root chakra - red - the base of the spine
Chakra is the sanskrit word for wheel.

Hi all,
One of the best books ever about chakras is:
Wheels of Life: A User's Guide to the Chakra System
by Anodea Judith
ISBN: 0875423205
This book is very comprehensive. It is a "must have" book for anyone working with chakras. It's good for beginners and more advanced students. Great book!

Tibetan Buddhists combine the traditional seventh and sixth chakras and the traditional first and second. This leaves a system of five chakras.
They do this because it fits in well with the five Buddha families, five aggregates of ego, five poisons, etc. all with specific vibrations that manifest as colors, sounds, and elements.
The five chakra system is essentially the same as the seven.

Thanks.
Hmm...............for purposes of the art, I think I'll go with the 7. Hopefully viewers won't have a problem with that.
77? Yeah, that'd just make a haze around the figure!

you will be hard pressed to find a majority vote here , like in any tarot discussions ehhe..
what i learned is generally there is 7 charkas, 22 minor charkas that form the vortex, and three light charaks over head.
in the middle of the body is a core star at a dimension that can't not be measure by time and space,
and on a closer dimension is the intention line based on the hara.
in fact as you study this and that ,, you will see many silimarities and just as many differences. pick one that makes sense to you and go for it :O)
aye 7 is good , ( said to the tone of you mean if he finds out ,, yes if he finds out i think from hercusles disney cartoon yet it was also done in the lion king as well by the whoopi and cheech marin jackals when simba runs off )
