Morning all!
Since we have an almost Hermetic theme running through Spirituality at the moment, and since Tarotbear has so kindly started threads on the two important hermetic rituals of the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentgram and Rose Cross, I was hoping we could also have a thread about the Star Sapphire.
I personally know hardly anything about this ritual other than it's name, but I'm sure somebody here knows alot about it... So, what is it? What does one do with the Star Sapphire?

The Star Sapphire is a Thelemic version of the Golden Dawn's "Greater Ritual of the Pentagram"- the advanced version of the LBRP. It can be used for banishing or invoking. Its a hexagramic ritual, meaning you draw 6-pointed stars instead of 5-pointed stars... the reason for this gets into the idea that pentagrams represent humanity and hexagrams represent God. Aleister Crowley was the author of the Star Sapphire and Star Ruby (which is akin to a Thelemic LBRP) and I ~think~ both were originally published in his "Book of Lies".
Like the Golden Dawn rituals, they are fairly simple and elegant but get into some of the New Aeon magic of Thelema and are excellent examples of how someone can "change" the LBRP/GRP and still have it "work", as long as the changes are meaningful rather than arbitrary.
