GGGGGrrrrrrr
I have been wasting so much time online... Looking for one I like.
Well, wasted time. Cos most online shops are US based - so I can forget it.
Does anyonw know of any reliable online shop based in Europe and dealing athames?
Please help me cos I am going NUTS! :(

Hi Pollux,
I have NO idea about the following c'ept the surface mail address is quite near me. They don't as far as I know have an actual shop and seem to be entirely mail order... An intriguing browse anyway ;)
http://www.newmoonoccultshop.com/ritual/athame.htm
A search on the name yields other "Pagan" sites which point to this one, so I suppose you might get a review or recommendation from somewhere.

A really cool place that has pagan auctions is this spot
ePagan Auctions
here are athame auctions : Athames
I believe that it has European auctions too because they have Dutch ones
Hope that helps! :)

Pollux,
If you can't find one you like at NewMoon than you can try http://www.wyrdshop.co.uk .
Bright blessings,

newmoonoccultshop have got a high reputation, I think because the "simpler" athames are all made by a famous athame-smith, whose name I forgot, unfortunately. Anyway I for myself had mine made from www.lutel.cz and went there by car (although they would send it to you) because you can design it just the way YOU want it. Anyway, you have to tell the guys from lutel, as I don´t think that they know what an "athame" would be. ;)

pollux - make your own!
Of all the things I have spent money on, I have never bought an athame of any 'design' - I use an iron 'push-knife' I found at a roadside flea market. It is nothing fancy, which is probably why I like it. It also came with a small sheath and can clip inside a boot.
Recently I was in the local 'store' and the owner handed me the most exquiste piece of athame I have ever seen- with a geode in the handle, liquid silver soldering, all this jewel work...absolutely breath-taking! And with a price to match! Last time I paid that amount of money for something I drove it home...
BTW - do you say ATH - a - may, A- thaym, or A - they -mee ?

I have never bought an athame either. I use a kitchen knife. :l I suppose that would suit a kitchen witch ;) !

Reminds me of a verse of song "Gimme that REAL old time religion":
"With your trusty old athame you can cast a double whammy-
or slice and dice salami - it's good enough for me!"
Hard to rhyme 'Salami' with 'AH -the- may' !!

Tarotbear, I will be going to a Weaponry (does that noun exist? *LOL*) soon, probably on the Esbat and accompanied by some fellow Wiccans - yep I found some neighbouring witches! :D *LOL*
I'll be looking out for a decent knife to adapt as athame, or at least peek in Antiques shop for some reproductions of old-fashioned daggers and knives.
I have given up with the US-based online shops cos they carry the very same items, that I find rather... UGH! rather common and unattractive.
And there's an e-friend of mine who recently opened a small online shop... check it it's here: http://www.stregadellemele.it/bosco/athame.asp
I just found out I DO like a couple of items (the steel daggers from 20 to 30 euros, bottom of the list) - and well... I maybe found it!
I would love to make my own but it's unlikely I'll manage to do something as decent as those she sells - and for an affordable price too! :)
(P.S. I am making my own Pentacle, in National Italian Oak cut in the last month, from the hands of my very own uncle and God-father, and bla bla bla... I am so exited, and its evident imperfections - the non.circular shape, the rough surfece... - they simply make it so perfect, so beautiful, so natural... just like my Pentacle should be! :D)

I guess I'm quite lucky cuz I know lots of reconstructionist people (People who pretend wars wiht each other with very realistic weapons, otherwise known as the Stick Fighting Society... ;)) and I know of around 3 shops which sell gorgeous swords, knives, and big sticks. :D
Glastonbury has a cool shop for athames, called Man, Myth and Magik. I was gonna suggest I get you one when I go there next Pollux, and mail it to you, but then I realised that mailing somebody a weapon in the post would probably be construed as some form of terrorism!

Well, if I bought via mail I would get a weapon anyway, and that's what is most probably going to happen. *LOL* Morgana will send me the athame via mail all the same.
Kiama, that was very kind of you, and thank you! But don't worry, hopefully next summer you might be able to take ME to the shop, and help me pick some other cute items as well... ;)
