I know it's a bit odd and I'm not sure it's the right way to post this. But I have a problem with large groups of people, every time I go to a party, or even a shopping mall, I feel exausted after a very short period of time, and I usually need several hours to recover from such endeavours.
I teach to maintain myself in grad school and after every lecture my day is ruined. I have considered teaching college for living after I graduate, rather than going for research, but the way things are with me it will be like killing myself. It's not that I don't like teaching, or dealing with large groups of people, it just exausts me and I don't even know why.
Is there any explanation for such thing?
Thanks
Alex.

Not quite a spiritual reason, though that may have a lot to do with it. But I also become tired after a day of social interaction - it's honestly hard work for me to pretend that all I want to do is go out with friends and have fun, like a normal teenager. I suppose then, that part of your situation could be due to social anxiety/defense against depression. You might be averse to spending much time with large groups of people because their energies, barely touching you deeply but always around you, frighten you with how much you do not know about them. This causes loneliness and insecurity. And those things, inevitably, take their toll on energy.
Just a possible explanation.

You run on very low energies at the moment, you worry to much about the external and don't take care of yourself. You batteries are running on the left over spears (if there is such a thing in a battery).
I am writing this after being well aware of your situation and your other posts and readings.
You should seek in your own way (which ever way may suit you) to replenish your energies before you have a nervous break-down. You are showing symptoms of getting there slowly but surely.
I would suggest you take good care of yourself, starting now, for a good week or two at least, no matter what the external noise is, things won't run away get better or worse if you take care of yourself. You will only gain more power to deal with whatever is needed and that includes being and dealing with the public.
You should also try to shielding when going out in the public at least at this moment when you feel this way, later you may not need this. I don't usually shield even though I am a sponge to others emotions, I only do shielding when I know that I am weak and can't deal with it.
I would suggest meditation, centering and shielding and/or a lot of sleep (or as much as you possibly can get, even if it means not doing other things just to get more sleep). Anything that falls in the category of taking care of yourself you will be very good to replenish your energies.
I was actually taught this by a psychologist which is the mother of a good friend. When I used to be in a bad state she always used to tell me "you forgot your 20 minutes a day". What she meant by that is to take care of yourself for 20 minutes a day every day without fail.
This is only my opinion and I hope it helped.

This happened to me a LOT till I learned to shield against it.
Along with taking good physical care of your body (eating at the right times, getting enough water, vitamins, etc.) think about checking out this page:
http://www.psipog.net/activepsy/book2.html#_Toc472931489
It's got info on how to shield, in plain language. It's a sort of meditation technique, but done very quickly, and it worked wonders for me. Shielding is done by many pagans, it's just one of the many things we learn how to do.

I agree, shield yourself. I teach high school children and I am sooooo exhausted at the end of the day. I SHOULD TRY TO EAT MORE VEGETABLES. Spiritually speaking, sheild yourself. I have stopped doing that but here is what I did:
TWO WHITE CANDLES ( MAKE SURE YOU CLEANE tHEM)
iNSCENSE.
Here is the chant I used to reinforce my aura. I got it from Raymond Bucklands Book Chanto-matics:
"Bare nu lairt on hear"
It works and it improves your psychic abilities 100 fold.

I will try this "shielding" thing once I understand what it is.
I agree, Karen, that I'm stressed out at the moment (moment meaning for a few years) and the point that I have to take care of myself is well taken.
Yet, the tiredeness I feel after teaching isn't like anything else I experience in terms of stress. It's really like all my energy is gone when I finish.
I do well with people in very small groups of two or three, anything more than that is just a tremendous overload on my system. I recall when I was married and my ex- and I used to go to parties together: he would leave the place all energized, I would leave the place exausted and numb.
Alex.

HudsonGray posted the best link about shielding. You can also search the web, there are more resources but they may not be in plain language like this one. See what you can find, but the above link is the simplest I know of.

hi Alex,
what you describe sounds as if you would be easily influenced by the feelings of the people that surround you - and the more people the more influences. That could be because of "opened" chakras, at least it sounds very similar to me. I would recommend you to buy a book about opening and closing chakras and then make sure they are closed.

Hi Alex
I have experienced what you`re going through myself and tend to agree with the advice given. Closing your chakras is definately the place to start, see how it goes after that and then try shielding. You may find that after doing the meditation techniques needed to close your chakras and shield yourself you feel a lot better just due to the general calming effect. I think that the effect our chakras have on our general wellbeing is generally overlooked, I know that I suffer from terrible migraines and they are often helped by conciously closing my 3rd eye chakra. Remember to leave your base and crown chakras open slightly to connect you to the Earth and the Universe.

There are hundreds of chakras all over the body but the main ones which people work with are roughly in line with the spinal column or kundalini line.
Chakra is the sanskrit word for wheel and the chakras are often visualised as coloured spinning wheels or flowers with many petals.
A good exercise to balance and close your chakras is;
Sit in a quiet place, in a comfortable, upright position.
Take a few deep breaths to calm yourself.
Imagine that you have roots going deep into the Earth, begin to visualise this Earth energy rising with every in breath.
The 1st chakra is the root or base chakra coloured red. Imagine it beginning to glow, as it glows it spins and grows until the base of your spine is suffused with red light.
Visualise the light reaching higher, just below the waistline is the naval chakra (orange), once again imagine that it spins, opens and glows.
Next, just below the diaphragm is the solar plexus chakra (yellow)- do the same with this.
You`ve probably got the picture by now, continue to visualise white light traveling up your spine and causing each chakra to expand and glow as it is touched by the light. There are 4 chakras left:
Heart chakra - in the centre of your chest - green
throat chakra- in the centre of your throat- blue
3rd eye chakra- between the eyes in the centre of your head - indigo
crown chakra - just above the top of your head - violet or white (a mixture of all the colours)
When you`ve got to the crown chakra, imagine the light receeding back the way it has come but this time when the light touches your chakras visualise them growing small and still again- closed.
Leave the crown and the root chakra slightly open to keep you connected to the Earth and the Universe.
The chakra system is absolutely fascinating, each chakra is related to a different area of life and bodily function.
Hope that`s helped a bit
Love and light

Crystalmynx, that's brilliant - thank you so much!
I've been opening chakras for grounding and have had some remarkable sensations. But I never knew you needed to close them [other than base/crown] afterwards. It would maybe account for why I've not felt I've got shielding right - that it's not been as effective as I might have hoped.
Thank you so much
Eve

I will try as well: First each person uses a slightly or more different system, I assume. My way is to imagine a slow wave of grey, slowly covering me from head to toe. While the grey proceeds, the colour of the chakra fades away, thus closing. It starts at the head and finishes at the base chakra. These to are left as "pinpoint lights" the other ones are closed completely. When one chakra opens up again (which happens sometimes with my third eye) I imagine the grey as sort of clay and put it on it, then draw a seal on it.
I hope that helps too.

Oh. I do not know. I got it from Raymond Buckland's book chanto-matics. I know when intoning the words I hear the vibration it produces really clearly. My voice deepens and it feels like it is not even me when pronouncing the words. I resurrected the Kundalini Serpent once while chanting those words. I was afraid of the sensation and loved it at the same time. I did it once and tried to keep intoning those words to do it again. I never did. I have no idea what the words mean. it feels really good to chant them. Here is anopther to protect you from Entitites: Ne his oxan ne I do not know what that means either.

i think it's wise to know what you're chanting before chanting it. words have great meaning and power. even if the words come from a source you may trust, they may not properly 'fit' you or what you are trying to accomplish.
