Interesting article in todays New York Times on meditation and stress, depression and anxiety. Seems that there is quantifiable medical evidence that meditation lessens the adverse effects of stress.
The article is titled "Finding Happiness: Cajole Your Brain to Lean to the Left" by Daniel Goldman.
I am not sure if you need to subscribe in order to access the web page to the article but here's the web page: http://www.nytimes.com/2003/02/04/health/psychology/04ESSA.html

that was an interesting article to read...Western science is only just beginning to realise the connection between mind/body/and spirit! It is nice to know that work is being done to make this connection 'quanitifiable' :)

Well, Western Science research of wellbeing doesn't require a belief in the spirit... neither does meditation [unless i'm doing it wrong...]

spirit is our soul. our individual essence that is connected to the outside world and to each human being. i just began meditation for massage therapy school as a practice to help all aspects of my being, mind/body/spirit to be in one place at the same time. all 3 are interdependent. so you can just look at the body for symptoms and cure the body, you need to look at all 3 levels. does that make better sense?
i'm going to get the article now. share it w/my classmates. thanks.
blessed be,
PG
