i just saw that i cannot attach photos here - but if you want a look you can just follow the links:

http://w1.910.telia.com/~u91024038/februari/altare2.jpg

for a long time i didn't use my altar. i had it standing there and it was crowded and dusty and unused and not me at all. just lots of "stuff" collected there.
so i did a clean sweep.
my handmade wand was no longer the right one for me so i am on the look out for a new one.

this is the bare essentials altar.
tool are:
*pentacle made of wood and just painted. this was the very first tool i made and some day i will make a new one carved in wood.
*dagger (not a consecrated air dagger)
*incense
*a bowl and pitcher (with cats on them too!)
*candles (two tall ones and one small scented tea candle)

+athena +a tiny lil laughing buddha + a picture up ganesha
the first for wisdom and the others for having fun.
and finally - the box.
wanna know what's in the box?

too bad cause i ain't gonna tell:P

Liliana  24 Feb 2003
It nice, i wanna know whats in the box, but the Qabalist in me is bothered, you have your black and white tapers reversed in my mind, the black belong on the left white on the right, like on the High Priestess card

Or maybe you know another system I dont, if you do let me know the reasons for placement :)

jema  24 Feb 2003
well, it's actually a blue candle and i keep the white in the north for snow and winter and never really thought about it from the qabalistic point of view. good point though! i might incorporate it later on. i have a feeling i will change things around a bit yet. i am not all that happy with the candles at all. i don't work well with fire near my hair...
*more then once i heard a WHOOSH and seen parts of my hair go up in flames.*
i am thinking about finding some sort of covered glass holders.
i am a clutz.

meatbox666  24 Feb 2003
LOL....muhahahaha. You have a jheri curl and drink Pepsi. LOL. Just Kidding. Very nice altar.

coldsuns  18 Mar 2003
Nice altar!! Is neat and tidy. Whats the middle Pendant? And on the right, whose photo is it?

Demonesse  18 Mar 2003
Beautiful :) Simple and understated yet elegant. What does the chest of drawers hold?

By the way, Ganesha is well known for removing obstacles in one's path - you might want to place it there for more than fun alone :)

jema  18 Mar 2003
the drawers are filled with supplies, candles, charcoal, incense, pen and paper and odd and random stuff.

i am trying to find a cloth for the altar now but it has to be something that repells cat-hairs:)

cjtarot  18 Mar 2003
Jema,

A satin and cotton alter cloth would work..the satin may not repel the cat hair, but it would be easy to wipe off.

BUT A BETTER IDEA

the other idea may actually be a plastic (hmmmm)...a peice of cotton (with a mute design, kinda like a tone on tone or one that goes from light to dark and back) with pressed flowers, ferns and maybe pictures on it..THEN ADD Plexiglass...wipes up easy and if the candles melt, just stick it in the freezer and pop the wax right off...

I amy try it..I burn candles in my room (on my umm whatever you want to call it alter) and have ruined a few peices of material.

Blessings,

Cj

Yes, definitely some kind of cloth. I realise, in retrospect that my neat BLACK tarot cloth wasn't such a great idea - with ginger/tortie cats. Amazing where it all that hair comes from :D Gold is holding out somewhat better in this respect. At least "they" are much too old... and sensible enough NOT to swing from the hanging edges now? })

I like this altar: straightforward and serviceable!

And what a great idea to show it to us.

I'd actually like to hear about other peoples' home altars, to find out how alike or different they are. Pictures too, if you have them!

Astraea  18 Mar 2003
Rota, that's just what I was thinking! It would be nice to see lots of people's altars.

Jema, I love your altar -- the word that first sprang to mind when I saw it was "honest." It expresses someone who goes right to the essence of issues. Thank you for sharing these photos. :)

Butterfly  18 Mar 2003
That's wonderful Jema. Thank you for sharing.
I have two altars, a house altar and a kitchen altar. I light a candle on my house one everymorning. I invite in the spirit of my home and thank it for the healing and harmony it brings. I light my kitchen one when I am working in there and invite in the spirit of my kitchen, thanking it for the wellbeing and energy it provides. I have felt such a change in the feeling of my house since beginning these litle daily rituals.
Each altar has richly scented candles (I happily pay a fortune- lifes too short for unscented candles ;-)), crystals, indoor plants and figurines).
I'm more of a green/kitchen witch so for me it's very simple and useful.

coldsuns  18 Mar 2003
Butterfly, your altars sound great. Are you able to show the pictures of your altars here?

Jema, whats the middle pendant?? It looks nice.

jema  19 Mar 2003
hey cjtarot, i really liked your idea!
i am thinking perhaps a top of clear glass could work well and i can stick things under it:)
glass would be good both in regards to the cats and for the candles!

the pendants on the wall are:
the one to the left is a naked lady:) that is like a whistle too, you can blow her feet and she will sing:)
the other one is a tiny glass jar with tiny rose-quarts stones.
the small tea-candle is scented with lemon verbena and smells heavenly!

i posted this in the hopes that more of you would post your pictures or your altars! so come on now, show us!!!

coldsuns  19 Mar 2003
Oh! That sounds great..tiny rose quartz in a bottle. Anyway whats an altar for? My house too small for one..~>,<~ But i usually put all my materials on my bed and put them on the floor when sleeping. Poor me..

cjtarot  19 Mar 2003
Hi,

was hoping more people posted pix. would love to get some ideas. This is my "alter"..or more like collection of items that make me feel good. (wow that round light is an amathyst crystal ball)

When I want to do my candle spells, I have to move everthing but the back mirror off...so I like clutter..

Blessings,

Cj

coldsuns  19 Mar 2003
Oh..thats a rather full altar. Nice crystal ball. Why is there wine and photo fame? And is that a book on the extreme right? Thats a nice star!

january  19 Mar 2003
Great altar! I feel that altars should include items which have a special and personal meaning to you. It helps in focus and meditation.

Regarding wax drippings on cloths... i have a cure! Once a candle spilled all the way to the floor in a huge puddle onto the carpt and I was in such deep concentration I didn't notice until it was too late. Mom came to the rescue with an ice cube, and old towel and an iron. here's how:

- cover the area with ice cubes to harden the wax as much as possible
- discard ice cubes and pat the area dry
- place the towel over the area
- turn your iron onto a "high cotton" setting and keep pressing it to the towel.
- the wax will keep transferring itself to the narly old towel and after a few presses it will all be off of your cloth

This doesn't remove stains from colored candles but of course if your altar cloth is white you can bleach it.

Astraea  19 Mar 2003
cjtarot, I like your altar -- it doesn't look cluttered at all to me, it looks very personal and purposeful and everything on it feels (even through a photograph) as if it knows exactly what it's doing there!

cjtarot  19 Mar 2003
hi all,

just a bit of clarification..lol I wish that was wine on my alter....It's actually a incense burner..you put the incence into the top, lit side down, it has a hole it the back so the stick get airs and a clip you attach to the end of the incence stick so it doenst fall all the way into the bottle. It's a pretty neat concept. and square with the sun face and the little gold cup is also an incense holder (my friend made it for me), pretty kewl..you put salt in the little cup and when you want to put out the incence you just stick the burning part in the salt.

The thing that looks like a book is actually a basket that holds my incense.

It is a bit cluttered, so when I do Candle Spells, I move about 1/2 the stuff off.

Thanks for the info on the wax cleanup ..

Blessings,

Cj
