I was a bit sceptical at first because I'd always heard CALLING a guardian to you was the way to go, but after reading it, I can see how that would be very powerful. It's just another way of asking something to come, and more 'hands on' than doing it through meditation.
It does appear to be a knowledgeable article. I wonder if she had to redo it the next year when the timeline ran out? They didn't give any indication of what happened after the 365 days were up.
I'll have to go back & check out the rest of the site.

The book says, "If you are using an animal guardian, try to obtain a piece of real fur, a claw, or a tooth - a taxidermist can often supply this...In this way nothing is killed unduly, and you can work with a clear conscience. If even this disturbs you, you can use...a piece of fake fur or patterned material such as a leopard print, and a sliver of bone from a chicken, and chant over them. Use your own words, for it is you who is working the change. Tell them that they are reborn into the form of (name). Speak the attributes of this new form and how it will serve your purpose...When this is done, grind the bone into powder, then burn the material and use the ashes. Gradually work this into the wax or clay."
As I ate the chicken I found and put aside a small piece of bone. I put it in the microwave to dry it out. When it was dry, I put it next to the piece of cloth. I said to them, "Together, you now have the fierceness of a tigress, which is why your name is Vyagra! Like a tigress you are quick and strong. Like a tigress you will defend your territory, rending invaders with your sharp and terrible claws."
The book continues, "Gradually work this [powder] into the wax or clay." I blended the powder into the Sculpy and sculpted it into a very primitive-looking, four-legged feline. The instructions in the book said, "Now lay it aside and leave it for twenty-four hours. During that time think about it and picture it in your mind...try to hold that shape in your mind..." So for the next day I spent as much time as possible thinking about my soon-to-be guardian, Vyagra. I saw her not as my somewhat sad artwork, but as an enormous animal, over eight feet long and weighing in at more than 300 pounds. I saw the muscles move under the skin as she gracefully ran over grassy plains and leapt small hills. Vyagra was breathtaking and beautiful. She would curl up, resting, but was always vigilant. I was starting to like this creature.
To be continue..=X
And...read more about it from the article at the above the website

I've put chicken bones in the microwave (it gets the grease out when you boil it in a cup of water) but they never get 'dry' that way. I can't see my blender turning it to powder, just chunks. Maybe small chunks, but no powder. I'd have better luck putting it in a vise in the basement to crush it. But I suppose it's however you want to give it a try. You may need to burn it to actually get it dry enough to crush, not the other way around.
Even if it was a piece of bone smaller than the neck bones I've used, it would be rather hard to powder down. Just burn the bone itself & then crush it.

I've heard of this interesting technique from a friend who for a time was heavily into Chaos Magick. The technique for creating the guardian does differ from person to person, and in Chaos Magick it is just by using your mind, but the effects and the intent are the same.
This friend read about another Chaos Magician who created a guardian (I think they're called something different in Chaos Magick though, but I've forgotten!) to help him get through traffic... This Guardian was a cool cat on a skateboard which would wizz through the traffic, named...
NNNNNNNEEEEYYAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! (The written word of how it sounds when a motorbike drives past you really really fast.)
It's a bit like the more recent creation of a technique called 'Found Goddesses' where people create Goddesses (Or Guardians, whatever you wanna call them: They're all the same in the end) for more modern things such as computers, etc. They use pretty much the same technique as Chaos magicians, and simply create the thoughtform Goddess and give Her a name which emphasises her powers. For instance, I read in a Llewellyn Magical Almanac that one woman created a Goddess of Herbalism and Growing Things, who she named Eucalypta Evergreening.

Ah, who needs a guardian when you have... AN UMBRELLA!!!! ;) They work wonders as discreet and unexpected weapons of not-so-mass destruction. ;)

Ah, but this umbrella is a magical one, created in the same way as a guardian... (Half serious, half joke there!)
My boyfriend just reminded me of another technique he has used to create guardians, well, not really create, but realise what guardian you have. Basically, you meditate on it. Not entirely sure how, but according to my boyf, his fearsome guardians are... Butterflies. Seriously. Apparantly when he;s in trouble or feeling down, they all form a shield around him by flying around him, and nobody bothers him. (Have you ever tried to walk through a swarm of butterflies? Its dangerous! That's why his guardian is a swram of them.)

Never put anything in a micro-wave oven if you want it to have any life.
Micro-waving is very similar to nuking stuff. You are basically killing anything good in it.
Dry your chicken bone in the sun next time, or next to a fire.
I'm not joking here. And don't eat food from a micro-wave either, if you can avoid it.

Diana is teaching us to lead a healthy life ^_^ And thanks for your advice regarding the drying bone thingy! But wont it take a long time under the sun? Or the oil of the chicken bone will actually come up and burn the whole bone when drying it with fire? Just wondering..

All bone marrow contains grease (even the wishbone), I asked on a SCA site about getting grease out & they recommended boiling it, which worked great. One of the things they work with in the SCA is bone carving & accessories, so I figured they'd know how to deal with it.
OR you could call a museum & talk to one of the taxidermist curators--they're always happy to answer questions like this! Could be another way to get them clean.

Maybe a chicken feather will solve all these problems! It is also a part of the animal. But i guess get a stronger animal, perhaps a small elephant tusk?

coldsuns: To get an elephant tusk, you need to kill an elephant. This is now forbidden by international law. Thank goodness.
It is disgusting to kill such a marvellous beast for his tusk. Do you know that an elephant never forgets?
Forget about elephant tusks.
I do not believe a guardian that is made from a living creature that one has killed will be particularly strong. You were given guardians before you were born. They are assigned to you and will never ever leave you. Ever. Try and contact them - you will see, they are stronger than anything you can make yourself. They are in contact with the Divine, and will teach you to contact the Divine within you.
Don't play games with the universe. And it will not play games with you.
For you are greatly loved by your Maker.

Hm..i do agree with you, Diana. But is not making a Guardian but to make a spirit of the animal to be reborn as your Guardian and protect you. As spirit doesnt stay and usually wander off or reborn in a new body. So we will need to make a statue using a part of the animal to make it stay and protect you.
However how can i contact my Spirit Guide? Or how to find out where my Spirit Guide is?

There are other ways to make Guardians that do not involve any bits of the animal: It is simply you creating a thoughtform through meditation and constant reinforcement of the creation. A bit like an imaginary friend!

coldsuns: you cannot make a spirit of an animal. Only the gods can do this. If you try and emprison the spirit of an animal in a statue, you are actually preventing it from being free. In my opinion, I do not believe you could do it - this boils down to superstition in my view - and secondly, even if you could do it, it would be cruel.
A animal spirit will stay with you for as long as it is needed - you do not need to emprison it. Do you really think that something that is emprisoned will want to help you?
How to get in contact with your Spirit Guide? You will not do it magically over night. This entails patience, love, faith and trust. Every day you should meditate so that your consciousness will be raised to higher levels. During the day, when you pass by trees or flowers, do not forget to greet them and tell them how beautiful they are. When you see a bird sitting on a tree, greet it and ask it if it has anything to say to you. (You don't have to talk aloud - these messages need no sound.) When you feel the wind on your face, smile and laugh with the wind. When you put on your leather shoes, thank the animal who died to give them to you. When you eat an apple, thank the gods of nature who provided it.
When you get closer to nature, you will start seeing and hearing wondrous things. And you will see beautiful visions. And they will not be hallucinations - they will be your third eye opening up to another reality.
And then your Spirit Guides and Animal Guides and Guardian Angels will reveal themselves to you. Actually, they are revealing themselves constantly - it is us human beings who cut ourselves off from their messages. They are always there. And they love you more than you can imagine.

I was trying to say that make "the spirit of an animal" to be reborn to be your Guardian! Okok? It does sounds cruel..but Taoism Amulets actually "trap" birds or animals in it to bless you. After sometimes, the birds or animals will fly,run or escape -.- hehe. So actually it has the same meaning in it.

The question you need to ask yourself though, is that just cuz Taoists do it, does it mean YOU need/want to do it? Do you believe in anything Taoists believe in? Would you WANT to trap an animal's spirit into an amulet and force it to serve you?

Kiama is right. Just because some Taoists do it, does it make this right?
And honestly coldsuns, do you really really think that something that has been entrapped will bless you? If someone entrapped me, I'd curse them, not bless them.
Love is the way. It is possibly even the only way.

Hm..i'm not sure. *bLuR*bLuR* Hm..i guess that the Taoism actually ask for permission from the animals? Or maybe the animals very willingly. The animal actually happily serve the person and it can go anytime it likes but after one year it will go..? I dont know..have to ask the animal about it ^_^
Kaima seems to be getting very frustrated -.-..

imho, the animals are our brothers and sisters. spirit guides are our guardians and teachers, not servents!!!!
you have gaurdians with you already. if they leave, it is because it is time for them to leave. a new one will come when it is time for them to come.
we don't contol our guides. if we were in control of them, how good would they be at guiding, guarding and teaching us? it is when we learn to listen to their wisdom that they are most helpful to us, not when we bend them to our will.
maybe instead of trying to capture or create a spirit guardian, you could learn to listen to the one(s) you already have

Coldsuns, this seems to have turned into an ethical debate. you seem to be open to trying any type of magick and belief system you can find. The reason Kiama and others in this thread seem frustrated is because they don't want anything bad to befall you. I can tell you from experience that if you jump into something without comepletely understanding the ramifications, horrible things can happen.
I did a spell a while back to assure that I would obtain something that I was working hard to get. Then I found out there were problems with the thing, and I am still trying to get it out of my life- but I have had such trouble trying to seperate myself from this thing. All because I didn't do the spell quite the way it should have been done, and I was not aware of the things that could go wrong. It was a horrible experience. Since then I have stopped doing any spells at all, but I am meditating and working on sharpening my intuition. All I'm saying is that you must be careful, and not take these things lightly.

Well, the original article had the person ASK the guardian to help for the year of time, no trapping or any nasty thing involved. The rest was all ritual magic, helping the person to focus & put her power into it.
I don't see why a shed feather or shed fur can't be used, or a ritual copy--no need to use bones or teeth or claws you know, it's just representative. You're not forcing anything to come either, if you're doing it the right way. It's all about asking.
Yes, you can do it all via meditation too. But for those who depend on ritual to help them do their strongest magic, I can see where the rest of this all comes in (as I said in my original post). No need to get so excited here! Things sort of got away from the original reason for the posting--working out a protection for people & property by looking at what one person tried & had work for them. The article seemed valid, and respected the guardian. No forcing was done by the other, just asking for protection and their attempt to establish a strong link that would connect their mind to what the guardian was willing to offer. They did mention that they thought often about the tiger, seeing it in their mind's eye, knowing it was there.
There wasn't any shamanic negotiation with spirits (something that always disturbed me, which is why I don't follow that path, much as I'm drawn to it). No perpetual locking in of the 'essence' to the crude symbolic figure. It was all done with honesty. Yet the postings here got all side tracked, when there's no real need to.
I don't think a forced guardian would hang around very long, or one that was disrespected. If using animal parts offends, use symbolic parts--a magazine picture burned & ashes put inside for instance, or draw your own. If you want something actually physical--go to the zoo & talk to the specific building zookeepers, I've gotten real crocodile teeth (they pop off regularly) that way, asking for a whisker or bit of shed fur is always the easiest way to go.

Hm..ok. Rather than trapping a animal ,i will actually say asking permission from the animal then put it inside the amulet and give to the person need blessing. And it sorts of "Guardian Angel". But it seems to be that many religious and countries does not know whats a Guardian Angel and Spirit Guide about. I asked many of my friends in Singapore, they dont understand what it is about. When and where does this belief come from?
I wont call this a debate but understand Guardian Angel or Spirit Guide more.

Some comes from the religious training we get as kids (the Catholic church pushes guardian angels in their catechism classes & study books, so we got exposure to that early in life). Native Americans have always had guardians, as a people, both spiritually and as a society. I don't know about Africa, Asia or Europe, though I do think Australian Aborigines have spirit guides too.
Depends on the culture. There's a ton of info online about it. Basically, it's something that helps look over you as a protection during dangerous or troubled times, something that helps guide you through learning, something that can answer questions for you in realms that you can't find a teacher. You have to trust them, you have to be polite to them, and they're free to leave when ever they want. They're not at your beck & call any more than birds in the sky are.

Angels are from heaven, it's sort of hard to explain if you don't have a Christian background. They (according to the bible) existed before earth came into being & can't die. There are many different forms (all human, some are small children-cherubs, most are adults). The physical differences mostly came in the number of wings some had, and they also had a number of different classifications of 'job' they do. I'm not up on all that info though. Some had 50 or 100 wings, others had a single pair, others didn't seem to have any at all. You'd have to read the Old Testament & the Revelations sections in the bible for more on that.

From what I understand a spirit guide is one who guides your learning in the spirit world to help your inner self learn something--teaching you about your spirituality. Animal guides teach you the other things (and not all 'animal' guides are animals). It would depend on what culture you were seeing them in.
A Native American would see a bear as a powerful force in their religion, having one come to teach them would mean something quite distinct in them, whereas if I (of European descent here in America) would get a bear appearing as a guide, I would see it quite differently, as something to teach me about nature or an aspect in myself. I would not see it in the same context as someone who was Native American.
Guides are just that--guides. They teach you something. They come when you're ready to learn, but if you refuse to learn what they're there to teach you, they'll go away. A spiritual guide is one who should be listened to very honestly, or you don't benefit at all. You can ASK that they come, but if they don't then you're not ready to learn. I see nothing scary about guides unless you're afraid to look inside yourself at what they're trying to tell you and teach you. Personal fear can stop all learning.
They are not angels. Angels are primarily religious and taken in the context of a standardized religious society and it's teachings. Spirit guides are nature based, and not part of any standardized religious teachings (for most of us, I know you're not Native American so I'm not including these in that context for you).
There are many other spirits---ghosts can be spirits, there are dimensional spirits (no, NOT tv related), and other energy forms that sometimes touch on our lives. Nothing to be scared about. And hauntings are not what I'm bringing up here.
There are so many different kinds that it's hard sometimes to know what aspect is being talked about. A lot of pagans use spirit guides and animal guides, to learn & grow within their lives. Christians use angels as guardians too, but this is for protection in their religious aspects, and to help them make the right decisions.
There is no spirit in the tarot cards, but you can use the cards to connect with one, though it's much easier doing this via meditation (and more accurate for you too). There are several threads on this board about Ouija boards, the general concensus is that without cautions used, you have no control over who comes, what they tell you as being true or not, and no reason to trust whatever you learn via them. Better read the threads. Personally I've only seen bad results from Ouija, or innacurate results or just plain 'not working' right. If you're 'new', there are better ways to spend your energy & get a whole lot better results.
Coldsuns, what religion are you? Have you any knowledge or training in the esoteric side of it? I'm guessing you're not Catholic or you'd have known about angels to start with. I can't see where you're coming from in base learning.
